So this truck has the crewmax cab, like mine. It also has the same bed size as the 2nd gen double cab. Yet it has the same exact payload rating as my truck’s door jamb sticker says and lower axle ratings (2nd gens are 4000front/4150rear).

I feel like my numbers let me use either the bed or the cab to their respective potentials, but not both. It appears the same is true of this 3rd gen Crewmax 6.5’ bed.

Towing went up to 12k, but you still get 1270lb payload. :bananadead:

Hopefully my 2014 tundra holds its value so I can trade it in on one of these new ones!

    that 1794 6.5' bed model won't have a 12K tow rating

I mean how much more can a 2014 depreciate to make a swaying difference?

You’re right. But it seems lame to me to point out the more stable towing capability of the brand new longer wheelbase option while having the same payload rating as 15 years ago.

I get it, but I think there is only so much you can do with a 1/2 ton truck honestly, epecailly when Toyota doesnt work in the grey area of ratings or use magic dust like Ford.

mark it down, Ford will update their numbers on teh hydrid with a few months to be more than these, they do that same shit with the payload at times.

it is what it is I guess, if we need more it will be 3/4 ton time or carry less shit, not much we can do.

for me, Im fine with that payload of the platinum as while I use my truck as a truck all the time, I just don't need 2K or more

It's ok. Hino has been using Ni-MH batteries for several years now on their hybrid trucks. Not really surprised in similar design of the Tundra and Hino hybrid systems.

    Hino: 2020 Hino 195h
    Ni-MH Battery, 288V
    Traction Motor Max Power: 36kW / 1,000 rpm Traction Motor Max Torque: 258 ft.-lb. / 1,000 rpm Inverter Max Power: 64KVA, 300V

    My people! LOL

Seriously....I'm agreed. I mean, if a full size pickup with a V6 is reliable, I don't have any issue owning one. I tend to think that they are; despite the issues we've occasionally heard about with Fords, I think they've proven that they're not exactly a giant fail. As much as I love my Tundra and the 5.7L V8, I wouldn't have any issue with a TT.

With that said...a giant part of the reason that the Tundra is so reliable is BECAUSE it doesn't have all the new tech. I'm not the oldest guy out there but I'm old enough (45) that I've seen the downside of constantly evolving tech. (Civil service employee) Every single time something new gets rolled out, me and the fellow server admins say "THIS is the downside of what's happening...." We get told we're wrong, and we've not been wrong yet.

As such, sure, I like the idea of the new Tundra....but short of the deal of the century, I won't be getting one until there's at least several months under its belt.

Ford placed it between the frame rails, so you keep storage under the rear seat and it's still protected. The Toyota just has poor packaging.

The videos from the release and actual in-person footage totally changed my mind on this truck. I think in the Pro trim it looks great. I'm sold on it. I'll still drive my dinosaur of a 3rd gen into the ground because i love its simplicity but there's no overlooking that the new gen is a nice truck. Especially happy about a rear locker, finally!

Yep... they made it so only the dealer can replace them... I hate to think what that would cost

If it's as reliable as everyone loves to claim Toyota is, it shouldn't be an issue for a very long time.

does anyone see the non hybrid 3.5 TT HP/Torque RPM numbers?

the hybrid is at 2400 RPM, which is great, but what about the non-hybrid. While I was hoping for more HP gain (+8) over the 5.7 V8, 78 lbs gain is pretty damn good depending on where it is.

Actually it does it you can follow simple logic.

He stated the Ford would cost way too much to replace the battery since the dealer has to do it.
Everyone and their mother in this thread has stated how reliable Toyotas are compared to the competition. (which I don't disagree with btw)
Therefore, one would not have to worry about that expense in the Toyota for a very long time, if ever.

Everyone talking about spec and comparing them to the other trucks go listen to the interview with Mike. He says they weren't out to chase numbers, they have tried that and it never goes well cause someone just comes by a few months later and beats them. Instead they focused on capability. That this truck is very capable at its max towing and hauling specs. He even says himself he wasn't worried about mpg and likes the v8, so the v6 must be pretty good.

To me thats exactly what I would want to hear from a person engineering a truck, let's not focus on numbers and let just make it the most capable, cause at the end of the days I think thats what everyone wants .

Correct, but if you follow the simple logic that he was talking about an expense that is caused by the inconvenient placement of the Ford battery, said expense does not apply to the Toyota battery which was placed in a different location, that can more easily be accessed, and replaced; therefore it doesn't make sense to say one would not have to worry about an expense that no one said existed in the first place.

But this is a dumb argument, and clearly I have too much time on my hands right now. So carry on.

So, looks aside, it delivers just about everything (reasonable) that everyone asked for and there are a lot of people whinging and crabbing over precisely zero things (other than looks, I'll never get used to the grill...)

And am I the only one who sees people discount the 1940 pound payload for the heavier trims and then compare that lesser amount to Ford's top number without also discounting theirs? Fords have hybrids and big sunroofs too. Lets compare apples to apples.

And if I hear one more idiot say "but the F350/F250 has..." I'm going to piss in your shoes. It's like saying "now that I see the new tundra, I'm going to place an order for the new corvette". Seriously, wtf? If you need an HD truck, the tundra was never for you and you're just blowing smoke up your own ass.

how many batteries do you think will be swapped out in backyards or garages?
They may not even be user serviceable, so it really wouldn't matter where the location was if that is the case. Plus they probably weigh a few hundred pounds.

Good job ignoring the argument about reliability to make your point or about why this line of discussion started in the first place, which is lack or storage vs. placement. So your latest point about "logic" has none at all. Enjoy day though.
