    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
Gonna be interesting. I like the TRD sound on the Tacomas so I'm sure I won't be disappointed. But that sound matching a full size truck will be odd.

Almost all of the "why didn't they" questions that I've heard official answers to are to keep cost down.

If the same logic applies, double cab is the cheaper model, removing the feature saves a few bucks.

Ford crew cab F150s can handle a max of 2900lb payload. I’m sure it drops a bit with heavier engines and 4wd.

Silverado crew cab 4x4s are rated for 2k lbs of payload. Probably a bit less with the 6.2L V8.

I’m still not going to buy a new Ford or Chevy half ton. Payload being my biggest complaint with my 2nd gen, I was just hoping the 3rd gen Tundra would crack 2k lbs of payload in the crewmax.

All of the specs are based on 87 octane.

Unlike other companies that only require 87 on the monroney sticker but use 93 octane for all of their advertised performance figures.

I took lunch and maybe I missed somebody saying this (no time to read the 543 posts I missed over lunch) but I think all the grille haters would be best served with a BLACK TRD Pro to tie everything in together. I think that would look amazing and hope to see one soon. Surely, you can get a black TRD Pro?

I’m hoping the price point stays the same for the 2022 model. If they become like the big 3 and want 70k+ for the higher trim levels. That would be a big mistake to get more share of the market. And won’t even consider it. Folks here seem to think it’s gonna rise big time.Sad

its not going to stay the same, nor is it going up to 70K like some people think

there is no way in hell toyota is going to raise the price 15K over last years model.

yeah but i rather have a 3rd party remote start. heck of a lot cheaper than what toyota or any oem charges. toyota gives you like 6/12 months then $80 yrs. right now i pay $40 yr for remote start and gps tracking on the tundra.

i did have a drone mobile setup but you have to buy the 3/5 yr plan to get the pricing down to $50/$60 yr cost and it doesnt include a gps tracking plan in the basic plan.

No way this thing will be available this year. In fact, it will probably be well into 2022. They've been working on it for years now (it was supposed to release in 2020, if you remember) and they still just have PROTOTYPES on stage at the world debut. All the interior (and some of the exterior) plastics are clearly not ready for prime time, and I can just imagine how long that will take to finish. With only three months left in the year, I doubt we start seeing these things at all till January, AT THE EARLIEST. Probably March-May before you really see them out and about.

I wonder if it has to do with safety ratings. They moved the gas tank to the passenger side to allow the transfer case to move back in an accident. Easiest way to increase crash safety is to bolt it above the frame, not between it.

Me personally I'd prefer a carpeted hump and not an obvious box in place of the storage container.

it needs to vent and be accessible for repair I would think. if there is a problem you dont want your entire interior tanken apart carpet and all.

it would have been better to just go somewhere else with it and leave the storage box under the seat even with the hybrid, storage is one thing we all wanted.

Im kinda leaning away from teh hybrid anyway at the moment, seems like an unneeded expense and lose of storage. I think Ill be fine with 389/479 anyways

test drive and pricing maybe will change that, we'll see.

The aftermarket will provide stronger rear coilsprings. 200lbs stronger per side, airbags, Timbren or Sumo for load management. All easy to install, new springs will be the most difficult, probably have to remove the rear swaybar to get enough axle droop to get them in. But after install you can leave the swaybar off especially if you put airbags in at the same time. Stronger springs + airbags controls sway.

Me personally a 7.2kW generator is ho hum - they're $1000 at the home depot, and then I can put it wherever I want and not lose the ability to drive my truck. 400W in the truck is decent, will charge 90% of the worksite batteries that will be used on a site.

well i can option out a 21 tundra platinum to 56k to match what we exactly got on our 18 platinum that sticker at 53k. if you add all the new features to match our 18 platinum it will easily jump to around 60k probably.

    1. add pano roof (imagine this will be 2k option)
    2. heated steering wheel (it was shown as an option 'SR') probably $500 option
    3. adding 360 view (PVM package for plat, option code 'MO') prob $1500 option
    4. jbl is option but im hoping its part of the plat std options

this will prob push the 60k to 63k i hope this is the tops.

well on our 2018 platinum there is no under seat storage, so no big loss there :)

I'm much rather have a nimh under me than a lion (lithium ion). Any battery of that size and voltage can be dangerous but if you short out a nimh battery, you'll get a spark, short out a lion and you get a fire. Mix nimh cells of differing charge states and you get a crappy charge. Mix lions of differing charge states and you get a fire. Run a nimh down too low and you get a dead battery that you might have trouble bringing back to life. Run a lion down too far and you get a fire.

I agree with what you're saying, but for me it's the transportation of fuel. If we take a direct hit from a hurricane, it's likely I could have to go 100+ miles to find gas to power the generator. Then I also need to have sufficient fuel cans to transport the fuel back to the house. Having a generator that can power the the fridge, maybe the deep freeze, maybe a portable AC depending on when it hits, etc... and know we're good for a day or two uninterrupted, that's worth the $700 option. People in my neighborhood have spent much, much more on whole house generators and buried the propane tank in the yard.

Ditto for GM. 2200 lbs in a mid level trim crew cab 4x4 with their max trailering package. Though that may be a moot point given that you can't get the max trailering package in the lower trims.

On that note, any word of what the GVWR is?

To me early indications are the PL will increase 150-200 lbs at different trim levels from 2021. This will put the Tundra more in line with Chevy and Ram but nobody's going to match Ford unless they go to the aluminum body.

if you look at some of the reviews, on the rear passenger seat you can see fan outlets at the base of the seat closer to the rear of the seat cushion on the hybrid models.

A black Sport would be nice, although the post that said it was lowered to be "street" cool is unfortunate. Pro is nice, but not with the upcharge and hybrid if towing is a primary concern.

Dislike the camo in the seats, but maybe it'll be OK in person with a black interior. Camo on the back end is too much, but maybe it'll be OK with a black truck. A black Sport or Pro has enough exterior sex appeal that I could see myself wanting one. But without a significant change in towing or payload? Not sure why I would give up my 2018 Sport, which is a bit of a relief. I could still see myself getting one down the road though.

Pricing really depends on what you option to. Regardless of pano, 360 camera the base is going to be higher. New power train, new suspension, new infotainment, new standard tech. Then you add in the extras like pano, hybrid, lockers, cams, etc. It's quite a large jump in tech and standard features but maybe that's why some of the design choices and battery choices are what they are. Save costs there to not price themselves out.
