I read somewhere that it was about being visible to oncoming traffic. Also creates specular highlights that look better on computer screens than in real life.

They even axed those on the 3rd Gen taco's randomly mid-2020, I have one of the last ones with a trans cooler. Weird what the bean counters/engineers feel is necessary or not.

Is it too soon to talk about the 2023 Sequoia? Will the hybrid batteries end up in the current under-cargo bay storage compartment?? :boink:

Funny thing is, I had a 2010 tundra that had the transmission replaced twice.

    – 1,455 pound payload on TRD Pro is below our minimum half-ton benchmark of 1,500 pounds
    – A snorkel will be unlikely, given the dual air intakes
    – Lack of proper factory front tow hooks (aero was blamed for the absence, but knockouts would have solved it)

just want to point out about the front end hooks that someone mentioned.

    Call it, Friendo.
Can somebody with skillz whip up a TRD Pro in black for us to see how it works with the grille? Really surprised they have not released a pic of one in black.

I have been reading a lot of the back and forth, about likes/dislikes on the new gen. And I remember 7 or 8 months ago when we were all wondering/hoping that there would be a V8 option on this newest gen. Now the new gen is here and only a ttV6. I am puzzled as to why some posters here are calling the critics, "haters". Many of us were hoping for different things on the new gen: of which some were realized and some were disappointments. Me personally, feel the TTV6 makes a full sized truck seem flaccid. Yeah, I get it: more torque in the lower end, blah blah blah. I personally do not care about the fuel economy as it's a truck. But for $7k, I can bump my V8 up to 550HP (which I will be doing in the near future).

That said, I think the new truck looks good on the inside. Outside, the TRD looks pretty good, but the grill on the Platinum and 1794, in MY opinion, is a downright abomination (referring specifically to the chrome and the goofy oval holes). Seriously, somebody was smoking a fatty when they were working on their CAD program. It also sucks, that anyone looking to put an aftermarket bumper on the new gen will be doing some serious plastic cutting. Regardless, I am 100% confident that a 3" to 6", lifted example, with larger, duel purpose tires, will look very bad ass.

I like the large screen on the info/entertainment system, but I have yet to hear anybody discuss how THE OEM SYSTEM SOUNDS!! Is it going to be a turd, like the 2.5 gen (which, btw, calling it the 2.5 gen is also BS)?

I am very annoyed, however, by the reduction of headroom. I know they did it to get better aerodynamics to achieve better fuel economy, but, it's called "Crewmax" for a reason. When I had a 2005 4Runner, my hair would crush against the ceiling (I am 6'2" tall). When I graduated to the Tundra, I was happier "then a puppy with two peckers", due to extra headroom.

Another thing that I have not seen or heard about on this gen (and maybe somebody can enlighten me), is the turn radius. On my 2018, it is terrible.
I am not concerned about reliability of the Turbos, or anything else reliability-related, for that matter, as Toyota almost never disappoints in this arena. But, in overview, this new gen IS NOT a "world beater" and I think this is where much of our disappointment originates.

Would I look at purchasing one in the future? Not for $70k. It's a good looking truck, presumably with Toyota's proven reliability. And with some aftermarket add-ons, this could be a very, very nice truck. But for now, I am still pretty giddy climbing up into the cockpit of my 2018.

Yeah, on one of the videos the reporter is 6 feet tall and his head is touching the headliner in the rear seat (sunroof truck). Then he says there is 'plenty of headroom' as he scrunches down in the seat lol.

This is the first I have read about the colors also.

Tundra will be offered in a host of colors that include: Super White, Wind Chill Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, Super Sonic Red, Army Green, Lunar Rock, Blueprint, Smoked Mesquite (Limited and 1794) and Solar Octane (TRD Pro exclusive).

I can't speak for anyone else here, but for me the "haters" are the ones who bash everything they can about the truck because they are mad about the lack of V8... There are good and bad points about the new gen (as you have pointed out), but some people can only see "no V8" (or fill in whatever feature they wanted that the new gen doesn't have) and that automatically makes everything about it bad

I work for a construction company who has a fleet of Ford and Chevy trucks. Since we spend a lot of money on maintenance I convinced them to try a Tundra since "they never break". We got one, and it is in the shop all the time. Mostly small electrical stuff for some reason, and repaired under warranty, but the general feeling here is that it is in the shop as much or more than the domestics.
Mine, and a few other co-workers who have personal Tundras love them and never have anything go wrong.

Why don't you old farts just use the tire as a step? This old fart does it all the time & I'm running 37s. Smaller tires even easier.

Wow, for the last four pages mostly nothing but bitching how the truck is crap. I hate the grill, it’s going to be made like crap, no V8, looks like a Chev. No one here has even seen it in person or even test drove it. People actually decided what they like on a videos? Personally I’ll be holding my judgement about the truck until I’ve seen it in person and test drove it. Some of the thing I do like though was the increase in payload, electric tailgate release, composite truck box and the interior.

Hmmmm. I haven't seen that. What I have seen are people who like some aspects and dislike others. And, good sir, where else are Tundra enthusiasts supposed to vent, if there is something that they dislike about the new gen? Don't know about you, but I do like seeing other people's likes and dislikes on the new gen. Some I agree with and others, I do not. But, I think everyone should be able to speak their peace; don't you? Oh, and the Platinum/1794 grill is F'NG DISGUSTING! Do not need to see it in person to realize that. I'm sorry if that makes you upset.

Um, I'm 51 years old, and my tires are 35's. If I tried getting in via the tire, I would either fall off and blow out my knee, or, at a minimum, split my pants open.

Coachbuilder steering kit will help you out some with that radius. I noticed a pretty decent difference. Sweet rig btw, I like what you've done w/ it.

You grab the bed rail while doing it - not much higher than a bumper step. Still...point taken. I have actually split my pants before...not a fun thing to have happen lol
