I don't think he is saying that he was involved with the development of this so he wouldn't know about the things you are asking about. He is saying that as an engineer who has worked with Toyota he feels confident that they wouldn't release a turbo design without extensive testing first.

He said “they’re more delicate than a standard V8 engine” and I think that’s exactly what others (current Tundra owners) are saying. He then goes on to discuss the kaizen method, it’s a great method and that’s why the 2021 Tundra is the pinnacle of reliability. The 2022 Tundra will (in all odds) be the least reliable of the 3rd gen trucks.

I agree with you; it’s not Toyota’s fault. Buyers not doing their due diligence does not amount to deception on Toyota’s part. Unlike GM and Ford who were caught fudging their numbers.
People need to understand “max available payload” means their shortbed crewcab ain’t gonna have it. Just like “prices start at X”. No one get to the dealer lot and freaks out that the TRD Pro isn’t offered the starting price.

I read that article and what they’re saying is that the base F-150 or base Silverado etc etc are what they’re doing this to to get the high payload . Every one of them they sell will have the correct payload # in the door jamb . That same article said that all manufacturers were doing it .

This is the only big miss for me as well. Was really hoping to see the torsen center diff in the new truck - proven and in use on other vehicles. Would even be willing to give up some payload for it *gasp*

It will be interesting to see if the turbo design can be such for easy and low cost repair. I agree an older NA design will be desirable for awhile. Will it go the way of steam locomotives? Museums and collectors.

Maybe they just haven’t designed one to work with the V6 and 10 speed yet .

If the conditions are so slick you can’t start rolling from a stop then the conditions are plenty slick for you to take a corner.

    Saw this in an article.

Numbers for the upgraded hybrid powertrain have yet to be released, but expect that it will be above 13,000.

Mind you that is just a guess like everything else has been but that is just for the motor if I’m reading correctly so that now makes me up my guess for the new Pro to be around the 73K range??

the more I read, the platinum or the off-road do not look like a bad truck and still be affordable?? Wish they were out so a person could go look at one?? Someday???

I think he means 13K premium over base engine.....if thats the case, thats more than the premium from a gas to diesel HD truck...lol

Oh. I mean if it’s 13k more than the previous base that puts it in the targeted 65-70 most dealers are guessing.

I don't think BorgWarner makes an AWD with a 1.75" transfer case chain. Have to have a 1.75" transfer case chain. Very important must have.

I am going to guess that the way the pricing goes it kind of like this.....All trucks and trims with 2 engine choices available will be very close to current pricing so the marketeers can say...all this and only x % of price increase.

But...the hybrid engine option will have a steep premium if that power plant is desired...but they can still give the low entry barrier price.

The Pro with only one engine choice will be priced as high as they think they can get away with and that will also apply to any other trims that do not have a base engine choice.

    Wrong.

In conditions where my truck has annoying traction issues related to acceleration, it still stops and turns (as long as I don't accelerate during the turn) nearly as well as a dry day. The truck is still totally safe, it just can't get going.

I was waiting for a npc response like that!

It does resemble the new GMs more than a little bit too though.

As far as I’m aware, only GM and Ford are removing things like the spare tire and wheel and rear bumper.

Ram and Toyota are just weighing the curb weight of their base models as they sit intact and subtracting from gross weight. That is their advertised max payload. This, unlike what GM and Ford did, is not deceptive.

Probably not until a few weeks before they hit the lots would be my guess, at least not until after they release the pricing... so maybe mid November?

no surprise there, we've known about the ford magic pixie dust for years, its why they always have the most on anything. Sweers wasn't wrong about that

and watch, Ill bet a nice beer allotment that they will up there hybrid numbers anytime now to top Toyotas since they are less that toyota in HP and Torque.

well we "recalibrated some things" and now its magically class leading.

its no secret they ripped off toyota with the hydrid and 10 speed when they left that partnership after they got what they wanted, Toyotas hybrid tech..

I trust toyota way more with 12K then Ford with 14K. That said, for me thats way too much for ANY 1/2 ton, but thats just my personal tow ratings

I'm far from an expert on this - is the use of the torsen center dependent on the number of gears or transmission type? It works with a V6 now (4runner), and for some reason I thought the torsen was distributing whatever power comes out of the transmission.

From the videos it seems they are waiting for govt to verify the numbers submitted before they will release them.

Wow, they drop the tow hooks for aerodynamic reasons? What the hell are we doing here? “Hey if we get rid of the receiver we’ll increase by 1 mpg”

Sounds like you have too heavy of a foot and get the TC kicking in too much. I know the exact problem you are talking about; they don't plow residential streets around here in the winter, we end up driving on 6" of hardpack and stop signs are glare ice; and I can get going in 2wd. I tend to use 4wd since it's a good time to work the system and the road is snow covered so no harm in turning, but it's not needed.

I get a good laugh out of these posts - I've driven GM's 4wd auto and sure it's nice, but I sure don't call it a game changer. Learn to use your right foot properly and you can then turn down the TC level and have some fun at the same time doing a little drift. I miss my old GM 4.8, could drift that thing all day long it just had the perfect power for that, Tundra is a bit too much power and likes to over rotate - would work great if I could get it to start in 3rd gear instead of 1st.

There's a lot to unpack now we see it. I care about function over form, so people noticing there are no towhooks, and no sign of a trans cooler get my attention.

The composite bed will be fine. A heavy steel bed gets very twitchy trying emergency lane changes at Interstate speeds.
Good question. I imagine the frame rails will be the same???? Same HxW dimensions, steel composition, but different lengths. Crossmembers will differ. Just my speculation. I suppose Toyota could increase payload simply with stronger rear coils. For DIY'rs that want to enhance cargo management (I'll call it that instead of 'increase payload', since that seems to be a trigger word) there will be stronger rear coils out PDQ aftermarket. Should be a fairly easy job to swap, done it twice on 4Runners on my garage floor. Access to a lift and it's a breeze.

Toss in some stiffer shocks while you're there, maybe insert airbags inside the coils. The TFL video HANDS ON With the New 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro: Is It Now a True Raptor & TRX Competitor? - YouTube
briefly showed the upper rear shock mount when showing the Pro shocks and it looks very easy to get to so that would simply shock install compared to some I've wrenched on.
