MPG is king now for half ton cars. If the hitch did make 1 MPG difference they'd find a way to make a shroud over it to clean up the airflow

Sorry for the double quote but wow, just wow. This one kind of tears it.

I can hear the 2022 hype club now: “but the average users doesn’t even need the tow hooks” …. Okay fellas, this reasoning is getting a little ridiculous. The average user doesn’t *need* seatbelts, or a spare tire, or headlights given that —on average— most driving occurs during daylight hours… If they’re jettisoning truck essentials to save on aerodynamics (to yield greater fuel efficiency) there’s no way we’re going to be blown away by the MPG figures, right?

BTW… does anyone know if 2022 will include vortex generators on the tail lamps?

Good, give yourself a pat on the back, why dontcha?

Makes one wonder why so many vehicles are offered with AWD....if only they possessed your wisdom.

Only thing I can think of is the Sequoia Torsen system can't handle the extra torque???? And I believe the current Torsen T-case is a different supplier than the Borg-Warners they're using now.

You're not wrong. I've always wondered "what in the world are folks out there doing that requires a Raptor or TRX". I grew up on a farm and never even came close to needing something like that.

Toyota is trying to scratch that itch for the folks that are into that type of thing.. for as cheap as possible, and without sacrificing reliability.

A 700 horsepower 1/2 ton truck is a novelty. You could have alot more fun with that money.

I guess that explains why they took the same approach, similar 10AT, similar sandwiched electric motor, similar battery pack capacity. I guess the onboard 7.2kW is Ford's idea though

This thread is powered by drama. We have a lot more info now so we won't hear from the "it's getting a diesel" or "the V8 stays but is getting turbos" or "it's getting a turbojet engine and sail" conspiracy theorists so we've moved on to whatever is left that we can GUESS about, then we argue about those guesses. The motto of this thread should be "we're not happy until you're not happy!" :D:D:D:p:anonymous:

and beat them to market with it. But Id rather wait and have toyota design and build it

    just ask @TundraLaw

all of that said, Im likely just going with the non-hybrid and get the underseat storage, I think 389/479 @2,400 mated to that 10-speed will be enough for me, thats pending the test drive of course.

Making it over twice the cost of two pre COVID Tundras.

I don't get what Toyota is doing with the Sequoia. If they didn't overprice it so badly, more people would consider one.

Replace the shocks and springs with taller ones. Or add a spring spacer for a milder lift.

Thats the first confirmation on the tow hooks being purposely omitted that I’ve seen. Hopefully they are indeed available as an OEM option as the article mentioned.

Must be some Japanese brand apprehension.
    Nissan is the same way.
They offer AWD/2/4H/4L on the Armada which was the exact same chassis and drivetrain as the Titan. I had considered swapping it into my Titan, but I'm getting too old for swaps.

I just don't get the stubborn resistance against it from the only 2 truck manufacturers that don't offer it, and that happen to both be Japanese nameplates.

But the 2023 Sequoia TRD Pro could look cool. Unfortunately, it'll be $80k.

The Prado 120/150 (2002+ GX/2003+ 4Runner) have had a similar 5 link rear setup for almost two decades. Lift springs and shocks, with longer upper/lower trailing arm links and panhard (or a panhard relocation) to keep rear axle geometry in check.

With dual-rate rear coils that should improve. Aftermarket will have a variety of rear coils out fast if one wants to change things up a bit, lift coils, stronger rated coils. And quite easy to swap in. Coils are cheap to buy, cheap to ship, cheap and easy to install.

Let’s not forget that they also ditched the rear solid axle for independent rear suspension starting in 2008 to make it more family friendly.

GM and Ford have a much wider range of pricing for there full size SUV’s. Until this new Sequoia comes out, they really don’t have any viable competition.

I just have a problem with my current Tundra's payload, it is only 1180 pounds before the bedliner, bed cover, and predator steps. They release this new Tundra and I am all excited thinking "Surely they will up the payload by like 400 lbs since they are updating a 14 year old platform." only to be disappointed to find that the new Tundra Crewmax Platinum still has a payload lower than the Sienna.

According to the video from TFL, Andrea showed the truck he was looking at it was what, 1285 lbs? The Sienna is listed as 1335 lbs.
    lol

Some of that payload increase came from reducing the size of the fuel tank. So, they up it like 100 pounds compared to the previous Tundra Platinum, but they reduced the gas tank from 38 to 32 gallons. So, 37 of the 100 pounds comes from reduced fuel capacity.
