Just picked up my 2017 today and I've already started ordering parts for mods. :transformer:

First up will be installing leather wrap on the steering wheel. I'll never understand why the SR5 Tacoma has a leather steering wheel and the SR5 Tundra does not. Of course the SR5 Tundra has garage controls on the rear view mirror and the SR5 Tacoma does not. Go figure...o_O

Next will be doing something with the antenna. It's hitting the garage door every time I enter and exit. Anyone have recommendations for short/stub antennas? Anyone use the TRD carbon fiber stub antenna available on Amazon?

Here's where I'm starting from. I'll update this thread as I make progress...
    IMG_2895.jpg IMG_2896.jpg

    Wish list includes:
Full chrome delete with TRD Pro Grille and something done with the bumpers whether it be a full replacement, plastidip or Line-X

    Line-X bed

Either a bed cover or full shell.

    Driver's side grab bar

    TRD shifter

Also anything that you guys can talk me into...;)

Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the forum!
On the subject of antennas.. I bought this antenna off of Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Stubby-Antenna-Toyota-Tundra-1999-2017/dp/B00757KJTI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492910600&sr=8-1&keywords=stubby+tundra+antenna

Reception is so-so.. Obviously won't be near as good as stock, but I just turned off the HD radio option and it runs the local radio stations alright in and around the DFW area. I've been considering trying other options, but I'm not too worried about it as I either don't listen to the radio, or use pandora.

Good luck with your build, and above all enjoy the new ride! :burnrubber:

Yeah I saw that one on Amazon as well. I guess I'm not too concerned with picking up HD since I almost always just streaming music or podcasts from my phone. It's more just so it doesn't bang on the garage door or have to be removed at the car wash.

Where in DFW? I'm in Colleyville...

Gotcha, yeah mine ended up hitting the garage and getting bent in a car wash so I switched to the stubby antenna.. no issues with either anymore! Also, while you're at it, I also recommend the Salex tray and center console organizer to help keep your center console somewhat organized  They're fairly inexpensive too!

I hear you on the steering wheel. That really pissed me off. I replaced mine with a tacoma one.

    Welcome! Nice rig and color.

As for Antenna, I use AntennaX off-road 13" that you can find on Amazon. I'm happy with it overall.

Antenna problem solved...no more whacking the garage door. Found this one at auto-zone right down the road.

A little of this and a little of that.
I use this one with success on all HD stations. I know you already have one from auto zone but if that doesn't fit your bill then try out the Amazon one.

Welcome to the forum from Las Vegas!!

Salex console organizers are in. Those things are awesome.

Just finished up installing the leather steering wheel wrap. Still have a few wrinkles to straighten out, but I'm pretty pleased with the end result. I'll definitely have sore fingers tomorrow. If you're going to do this plan on a minimum of three hours and take your time to make sure everything is lined up properly.

Haha! Love the color matched bumpers and Pro Grille on your truck. I'm still deciding on color matched bumpers, matte black or possibly black Line-X.

After seeing your wrapped steering wheel I had to give it a try. It turned out pretty dang good. Thanks for the tip.

How did you guys install the steering wheel wrap? Did you remove the airbag and steering wheel controls? I have the wrap and looked at how to install it but couldn't figure out exactly how without me having to remove the airbag and controls.

You don't have to remove anything. The wrap should have come with a flat plastic tool that you use to force the edges of the leather under the edges of the trim and airbag pieces. There are some good YouTube videos out there showing how to do it...not necessarily on a Tundra, but the same basic concept.

The process that worked for me was to get everything lined up as best as I could, use the double sided tape to hold the wrap in place (be sure to put plenty around the curves of the thumb rest to prevent any "bubbles" from sticking out once you're done...I had to redo that section on mine to add more tape), use the plastic tool to force the edges of the leather under the trim pieces (some you won't be able to do completely until it's sewn up), sew together the edges of the wrap and finally use the plastic tool to tuck in any edges that are still sticking out.

It certainly takes some patience to get it right. I started one evening, stopped after realizing how long it would take and then waited until the weekend when I had 3-4 hours to dedicate to it. I can say after that first try I was doubting whether or not I could actually install it properly, but it's actually not that bad. Just takes time. Best of luck...definitely worth it when you're done.

Good advice right there. They give you plenty of tape so use it. Took me about 3 or 4 hours also but worth it big time. I think I could do another one in a couple of hours. Goes quick once you realize that your sewing through the existing stitching rather than trying to poke holes in the leather itself.
