CONSTANT Clicking Noise Coming from Windshield?

    Hi all,
I meant to ask this question last year, but then as the weather warmed here in PA it seemed to be less of an issue. Now that temps are back in the 30s during the day, I’m reminding of the horror of a constant clicking noise coming from what I think is the sensor compartment behind the rear view mirror. Now, I’m not a car/truck expert like many of you, and this is one of those noises where depending on where you look, you can convince yourself that that is the spot where it’s coming from. But I think I’ve narrowed it down to the sensor area. I’ve taken off the plastic cap on the wiring and sensors to see if anything is loose and all seems fine. I’ve held the plastic cap while driving to see if it’s rubbing against the glass and the clicking continues. This is one of those things where it’s driving me insane and I know if I bring it to dealer they’ll tell me they don’t hear it. In addition, from the first day I bought my truck(14 months ago, 34k miles) it has made clicking noises turning, going over bumps, etc. Two trips to two dealerships and they both told me all looks good and it might be the strut bars. Is this community buying that, especially with the threads about bent axles and power steering rack recalls? I thank any and all help in advance.

I recall seeing a post similar to this a couple of years ago. You may have to do some searching.

I had the same issue, but magically has gone away after I hit some dirt and shook everything up. I think this might be the thread you are looking for https://www.tundras.com/threads/fixed-ticking-sound-in-dash-windshield-area.45650/. There is a link in there to another forum that actually goes through how to do the fix, but back in 2008 there was a TSB on this so it may be possible for a dealer to get it done for you since you should be under warranty.

I had a similar noise at times. Got some chips and a bad crack in the windshield and it got worse. Had the windshield replaced, no more noise.

    Tastefully enhanced...
Is the plastic cowl surrounding the wiper arms flapping at all? I've had that cause these annoying sounds before...

Tighten the two rear bolts on it and see if the popping goes away. If they are loose, it will bind against the cross member and pop when you turn.

I thought I saw a thread or post somewhere that a guy found two plastic tabs at the top of the windshield where it joins with the cab / header? I also saw another post where people were putting foam backing rod on the bottom between the windshield and the dash.

I feel for you as I am super sensitive to noises and they can echo terrible and sound like they are coming from somewhere else.

So here’s what I found after driving around a little bit more. The upper corner in the passenger side headliner had some factory glue that was squeaking on the windshield I was able to get a small plastic tool up there and pull down the headliner and pull it off and my squeaking issue is no more.

Reviving this thread. I have a ticking noise. Mine sounds like it is coming from the lower side of the windshield where it meets the dash. I had to add some cork in my old 2007 under the dash to fix that one. Drives me crazy!

After pulling apart the dash 4 times, I am still having the same issue. Mine sounds like a tapping/clacking noise of plastic or metal. Its defintely not the dash/windshield. Driving me nuts!!!

Dude! I solved mine. Never would have guessed but it was the drivers side hood hinge. Still dont know why but I packed some rubber garage door material in between the hinge so its tight when closed. Silent for 4 months.

yeah, I was going insane too. maybe yours if different but just throwing it out there. Let me know how yours works out. Mine was also only noticeable under 20mph but only happened when hitting bumps.

The sounds inside the cab can resonate and travel so much that even the slightest little noise in one area can sound like it is coming from another area. I have mysophonia where certain small sounds drive me nuts. I have spent a lot of time trying go rid my ride of all its noises.

the SR5 badge on my center console lid was loose and made a noise
the matt in the center dash tray was making a noise from vibrating
my rear seatbelts plastic where they go into the pillar was making a noise
the front seatbelts on the pillars were making noise
sunglasses in the center upper console were rattling
the plastic box cover under the passenger seat
    the glove box tray insert
rear passenger windows not rolled up tight
plastic water bottle in the cupholder
wiring harness next to the firewall on passenger side
    center console lid

Ok removed the cowl and sound was still present, so I went to the passenger side firewall where the ECU is, starting wiggling wires and the wires going into the little fuse box right there replicates the sound, guess the sound travels through the wires into the cab. Zip tied them up and sound is finally gone
