I heard that you can use Tacoma leather steering wheel. Same size? Same mounting? I have the bland stock wheel for a 2011. No radio controls on it.
Would love to upgrade it inc air bag if possible and run the adapter harness for the HU as I changed it out last year to the alpine.

Ive seen some of 2.5 gen threads

    thanks

    I wish I could-
The threads I found were really for 2014+
    I got excited for nothing.
I came to conclusion that it wouldn’t really work that well.

    Maybe a leather cover??

I'm going to try and install one soon, and will post pics and impressions.

I have a 2018 Tundra wheel on my 2007 Tundra. I think the Tacoma, 4 Runner, Sequoia are all really similar. I had to add wiring but all the radio/cellphone controls work on mine also.

I know for a fact the newer Tundra wheel will bolt right on.
Unhook the battery, remove the center airbag, remove the one nut on the stud and use a puller to get the old wheel off.
The new wheel goes back on the same way. You will need a newer style airbag which is kind of expensive.

All of these photos are from the same 2007 Tundra.

I wanted to change my steering wheel out for one with radio controls. It’s a 2013 Tundra CrewMax. Are there any links to show me how?

Oooo! Thumb bumps! Jealous I am

I dont think the cover I bought has provisions for that... I will have to live without.

I believe I will be happy enough to cover up that crappy plastic. Betty's siblings all have supple leather surrounding their primary vehicle hand controls.

Well it looks great so far. Time to get that thing bolted on!

I bought a professional re-wrap last time I had to deal with a wheel. Thickened, thumb bumps M Tricolor stitching... This time I wanted to try it for myself (since I chickened out on the bimmer). We'll see how that goes

I upgraded to a 2015 steering wheel that I wrapped with leather. I wrapped my '07 steering wheel with leather as well. It's for sale with airbag for anyone that wants it. Make a reasonable offer. LMK. Thanks.

What efforts are required to wire in the newer steering wheel? I am honestly a bit annoyed with the blank spot off to the side that is otherwise populated on the Sequoia.

What steering wheel wrap is this? I've been looking at Loncky and was going to order one in this exact set up. Any additional pictures of it?

Finally got around to installing the leather cover I bought.
    20220107_143235.jpg
    20220107_170111.jpg

Didn't use any tape, but everything tightened up so nicely that I dont think I'll miss it. Was more worried about lumps and bumps under the leather, or having to clean adhesive from the wheel if things took a turn for the worst.

I will update if any problems develop from lack of sticky stuff.

Process took a little over two hours, sitting outside, with waning daylight, and my hands were so busy that I was only able to consume one beer.

If I had to pick nits regarding the Lonkey product, it would be the decidedly gray appearance of the "black perforated leather" I chose. Otherwise, the fitment was spot on, and they provide everything you'll need for install and more (I also used a pocket knife, nail clippers, and a lighter).

Just the addition of leather thickens up the factory steering wheel nicely, and the red stitching I chose is a nice accent without being too much. Matches the shift knob with red stitching.

    I'm pretty happy so far.

And if I happen to ruin the damn thing with my "handyman hands", I can just cut it off and recover without having to deal with tape mess!

    Yes
I’ve got a newer tundra steering wheel I want to mount on to my 12. Want to wrap it first though and then install. I’m hoping I can build a harness to go between the old harness and new setup so that I don’t have to hack any of the original wires. That wheel has been sitting for about 6 months now though. So who knows when I will get time to get to it.

    Just an update.

    20220215_145356.jpg

Everything is holding up very nicely so far and I love the little upgrade in look and feel. Looks really good with the TRD shift knob as well.

Since I didnt use the tape, there is a small amount of deflection (few mm's) between the wheel and leather on the backside of the lower spokes. It hasn't caused any issues, and I quite enjoy playing with it from time to time.

All in all, still nothing I would change.
