Alright everyone, specifically anyone that has issues plaguing our stock head units. This post is for you.

Thanks to a post I stumbled onto at the Tacoma World sister site, this appears to have the last official firmware update for our 16-19 Entune head units, unavailable as an OWA update. Not sure about 2014 or 2015 models, as the TSB only mentions 2016 and up.

Supposedly this fixes the random reboots, Bluetooth disconnects, phone contact issues, and a few others. The zip file from the shares below also contains PDF versions of the TSB(s) put out by Toyota, listing the issues and fixes. You can find the official TSB on nhtsa.gov here as well.

It's very simple, but I still gotta say *Update at your own risk*. Just grab a USB thumb drive over 2GB, format it to FAT32, and copy the .kwi file that corresponds to your year/model and version of Entune. I would suggest turning off your Bluetooth on your phone before updating, in case you get a call or text during the process.
    *EDIT*
Reading through the Tacoma forum post again, seems you can just copy all of the files to the formatted flash drive, and your head unit will automagically pick the correct file to use.

I updated mine at lunch time today with no issues (2017 Pro), and so far on my 1 test call that was 5-ish minutes long didn't drop the call. I haven't had a call last more than 2 minutes previously since I've had the truck (7~ months).
Audio also seems a little louder and more clear. Usually I'll listen at volume 30 with normal highway driving, and today 25-28 seemed to be what I'm used to and 30 was a touch too much (unless it's a stressful day, then it's no lower than 40 ;))
My phone is an iPhone 13 Pro.

Here's how to know what version of Entune you have:
    • Entune Audio - Basic radio, no apps and no Nav, no JBL logo (mostly SR models)
      • For 2016-2018 models, use firmware 13TBDANA-DA10_0082.kwi
      • For 2019, use firmware 13TBDANA-DA11_0081.kwi
    • Entune Audio Plus - Includes apps, but no built-in Nav, no JBL logo (some SR and most SR5 models)
      • For 2016-2018 use firmware 13TDDANA-DA10_0123.kwi
      • For 2019, use firmware 13TDDANA-DA20_0122.kwi
    • Entune Audio Premium - Built-in nav, may or may not have JBL logo (few SR5 models, all Limited, 1794, Platinum and TRD Pro)
      • For 2016-2018 use firmware 13TDANNA-DA11_0164.kwi
      • For 2019 use firmware 13TDANNA-DA21_0165.kwi
I've also included some screenshots when I updated mine so you know what to expect to see. Takes around 10-ish minutes to fully complete.

These also appear to work on other models of Toyotas as well, but I can't personally confirm.

Here's a link to the original Google Drive share from the Tacoma World post:
3rd Gen Tacoma Multimedia Updates.zip - Google Drive

Also, a backup link to the same zip file shared from my own Google Drive:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/163QUtlBJ6JqY3i1Ltvk3u00vXAccd5Yo/view?usp=sharing

Hope this resolves some of y'alls stock radio issues!

I hope my Canadian-born truck now in WA state allows this update. I’ve gone on the Toyota download site and it doesn’t allow for updates due to it not being from the US. I go to the Canadian website and apparently it wanted me to be on Canadian soil to download. I have a 17 Platinum. If this works, I’ll letcha know in case any others with immigrant trucks need to know.

Well that's interesting! I thought 01019E was more recent than 0101A4 but the TSB confirms it isn't. Thanks @jbcrewmax

I will try it on my Canadian truck @adamreinhardt and will let you know. My Model ID is 13TDANNA-DA11 and my current firmware is 0109E. Will try and update it this weekend.

Awesome thnx. As for numbering, newest is 0101A4, because they use numbers first, then letters. The older one was 01019, then as updates happened they got to “A”, or 0101A. I read this somewhere on the forum just days ago

Doesn’t this auto update when you connect your phone? I have a 17 LTD with Entune Premium. A few months ago it automatically updated some things. Ill have to check the version and see!

Yes, but these versions aren’t available for over the air (OWA) updates through your phone. I’m not sure why, but I’m fairly sure this is the version the dealership will use if you bring it in asking for an update.

If you're seeing this message, click "Download anyway". It's just saying Google Drive can't scan the file for virus' since it's too big.

I did the update (thanks!) but I'm still getting Bluetooth connection issues on phone calls. If this keeps up ill have to look at buying a new overpriced head unit.

I have iPhone 12, my work iPhone was older and it had the same issues. Android work great. I don’t know why iPhone and Toyota hate each other at my expense.

Alright, I downloaded the files, along with a cpl of images so I can change my startup and shutdown screen images. But when I go to update, it doesn’t highlight the “DETAILS” or “UPDATE SOFTWARE” buttons I need, and when I go to change the images but it cannot find images on my USB. It’s definitely formatted as FAT32. Any ideas?

If it's USB 3, try an older USB 2.0 flash drive

This was it. Or maybe it’s that I tried the “download em all and the truck will figure it out” route. But instead of all the files plus the pics, I just put on the kwi file (164 on my 17 Platinum Canadian truck), and it worked! Unsure what I’ll get out of it but god I have it.

Now just gotta try each pic by itself and see if that’s what’s needed. One thing I read in the manual is that each image (JPG or JPEG only) must each be in folders named StartupImage and DisplayOffImage. Apparently it looks for those folders. I’ll update if I can get it to work or not.

Aaaaaaand it works! I labeled both each folder AND each image, because the manual says to put them in folders and name them, and somewhere else I read that the files themselves had to have those names. Who knows? I named both and now have startup and display off images! Sweet

So what you’ll want to do is do the download first. In it includes two PDFs, each one corresponds to a set of production years. Find the one for your truck and read it. You’ll find what you need by looking up your year, your level (non-JBL, Premium, etc), and that number on the bottom right of the head unit will be there to look up as well. It’ll tell you what update you’ll need. It’s a pretty easy chart, too.

see my earlier responses in this thread if you have trouble. It’s no super computer, can be finnicky.

I put all the files on the usb and the head unit chose the correct one and updated it.

That looks like Entune Audio Plus - A few apps, no NAV.

Just a guess but I think I'm right.

I updated my Entune plus yesterday. Seems to work fine although I had no issues before. I have IPhone10 and wife has 12. One thing I notice is there is now a option to update Gracenotes database. I never noticed it before is this new? Also how do you get the .up file to do it?
