    Hey all

Currently have a custom F150 Lariat 5.0L on hold with Ford. Ordered back in October and got 5% below invoice and locked in 0 APR. Was a really good deal but I felt like I settled on a couple things, mainly exterior color and interior color, wasn't my favorite

However, my possible ETA keeps getting delayed. Was February for the longest time and now possibly could be pushed back further into May. Kind of frustrating but this seems to be typical with Ford lately, over promise everything, take money, delay it forever, and then eventually push out a product. See Lightning and Bronco.

Because of that, been eying a new Tundra. Love the look of the Limited and it has everything I want except a digital gauge cluster and a V8 but the interior and exterior I won't be settling on. Plus I will be getting extras like a sun roof and digital rear view mirror, etc

Problem is, this will be about 10k more in price because I will be losing 5% below and 0 APR too

Am I crazy or will I be much more satisfied with a Tundra?

    Thanks!

You may find out that you can't get a Tundra any quicker. I have seen reports of major delays and very limited production with many 22s being pushed to 23. The new Tundra also has a few kinks that I would research carefully before signing.

How do you plan to use the truck? Towing? Commuting?

For sure but because Toyota's customization is a little less than Ford, I could probably find one off the lot quicker no?

Get the truck with the larger external ATF cooler.

Also, tow hooks should weigh heavily in your comparison.

Both. Will be towing Jet Skii's here and there to the lake. I work from home but trips around to do things will not be uncommon

If you buy the tundra you might end up keeping it for 20 years and what’s the fun in that. Get the f150 and trade it in in two years

I have a 21 F150 Lariat 5.0. 502A with sport, pano, and a lot of accessories. I'm actually starting to enjoy it more each day. I have a 22 Tundra Platinum on Order and honestly might just cancel and get the sequoia. The TTV6 is great powertrain and fuel economy but it doesn't rip like the 5.7 or 5.0 imo. Just feels like a different kinda power. nothing wrong with it, just different feel.

Also I've posted on here before but my trip from SATX to KCMO I got 21mpg and on the way home I got 19.7 mpg. I get around 15-16 city.

For reference the best I got in my TRD pro highway was 16.8 and the best citiy was high 10's low 11's.

Yeah, I decided on one of the last 21 Pros and I'm buying my wife the new Sequoia in a year. The best of both world's IMO. I've never had any luck with Ford.

Similar boat as you, sort of.

Lease is up this summer on my 2018 Lariat F150. With the Tundra roll-out delays [plus I have waited 5-6 years for the new Tundras to come out], I contemplated going back to leasing another F150. However, a dealership in my neck of the woods found my color and trim [Red / Limited / TRD OF] allocated to another dealership, and have made the swap so that I could have it. Supposedly should be here late March, early April. If that holds true, I am pretty certain I will be happy with the decision...as long as it arrives I guess before my lease is up, should still be fine. If it keeps getting bumped to June, then July, then August say, I may have to go back to the Ford dealership and swap into a new F150 lease. Not the end of the world; have had no issues with my F150 other than some minor stuff [freezing door latches, couple of other recalls, etc.], but who doesn't.

Boils down to what you have your heart set on. I owned a Tacoma and loved it. Got too small and wanted a Tundra, but they were getting dated and needed to improve their 'Fit and Finish' in my opinion. So I went domestic and waited [Jeep diesel GC (bad call), F150 XLT, F150 Lariat]. Is the new 2022 perfect, probably not, yet they have improved it. Looking forward to getting my hands on it...assuming it shows up north of the 49th :rofl:!

This statement comes up many many times thru out the years of truck buying. So i am going to stick my neck out and try to oleveate some concerns and misunderstandings and will probably get chewed up on the boards but here goes..

Why does one have to quantify whether they use the truck for commuting or hauling or towing it really doesn’t seem to make sense.
So let’s tackle this subject together all for one and one for all :) !
First lets get the first and obvious out of the way and that deals with the word commute. We all use our trucks to commute. That is we all use it 100% of the time to get to point A and back to point B. Excellent job Team Tundra we are moving forward.
So the next 2 questions are in the arenas of hauling and towing, which again seem out of place in the grand scheme of things remember this is a truck purchase. Last time I checked a truck by definition is supposed to haul and tow. 97.8% of truck owners heck maybe even close to 99.7% do not tow or haul at max ability. However, some of us have a specific thing we tow (boat,trailer,house…..) or a specific thing we haul (pumpkins, rocks, landscaping, dirt, appliances, sod, engine parts). Those things we tow or haul have a specific weight to them and that should be the first obstacle we climb over when making a truck purchase (categorically 1/2ton vs 3/4 ton vs 1 ton truck ) this has nothing to do with Tundra vs Ford vs GMC/Chevy but has everything to do with truck capability category . Remember most do not tow or haul at max ability. So if you have a specific thing that tows or hauls at a certain weight and it lands within the 1/2 ton truck capability then the questions of towing an hauling become sort of irrelevant… You are either in the 1/2 ton truck market or you are in the 1 ton truck market it is not a ONE SIZE fits all purchase… i repeat a truck purchase is not a ONE size fits all purchase and after we have determined what market we are in ,,,,where does this leave us when it comes to purchasing a truck? it really boils down to one word and one word only and that is: Quality
if something is quality built it will be reliable and dependable. It is this word and the history of Toyota Tundra that to me make it stand above all other brands. I believe Toyota builds trucks at a little higher level of quality than the other brands and because of this make it the most dependable an reliable 1/2 ton truck purchase you can make.

Unless you find something on the lot, I would keep waiting.

I am currently waiting on a Jeep I ordered for the wife in November. Same situation, under invoice order. No way I would cancel to go pay over sticker for a Bronco, etc., and then have to wait even longer on that too.

Maybe, mostly depends on a this list of factors: The first being your luck. Secondly, who you know. Finally, how much you're willing to pay!

I am in the exact opposite boat.

I Have a request in to my local dealer to look for a LTD Crewmax short bed with just the panoramic moonroof option checked. In the first contact they came at me with a 68K out the door price including markup and port installed options bundles. I told them what I wanted and said I want to be below 60K. Came up on the configurator in the low 57s so I will wait and let them look for it. Just called and said they see nothing that looks like what I'm interested in for at least 2 months out. Everything coming out is fully loaded and bundled. Plant just had a production cut that will probably cause this continue to ripple through the year.

I told them I bought 2 vehicles from their chain and serviced one there for over a decade but I don't take it personal if they can't locate my truck or don't want to sell to me right now for thousands less than others will pay, so we can keep communicating through the year to see how the market changes. They have 4 listed online at their one location but they are all in transit with some already purchased. Had a couple at their other location a month ago that I'm sure are gone. No dealer trades happening. With a Toyota you have to take what you find in dealer transit or what they can find getting build in the near future, you're not getting exactly what you want like with Ford.

After re-considering other brands I have a Ford dealer who claims not to charge ADM pricing a 5.0 Lariat SCREW for me. If they are telling the truth and are able to come in in the 50s for me I will probably end up in a Ford and tell my Toyota dealer maybe we'll try again in about 15 years when this new power train has some miles of real world testing.

I loved my 5.7 and 6 speed, it was a rock solid proven power train. Now that it's gone my emotional attachment to getting another one is gone with it too. I love the idea of saying I went from old Tundra to new Tundra but there are a number of things about it that turn me off compared to the Ford. If we were talking about updates to the current engine and tranny I might be more inclined to wait for the Tundra I want to become available.

Everything is backed up over COVID right now but that will be harder on Toyota buyers because they produce way fewer trucks to begin with.

I would wait on the 5.0 with Ford. Damn good engine, good ol' V8 without turbos. Not knocking turbos, but obviously twin turbos is in it's infancy with the Tundra and I do not get a warm fuzzy feeling about dropping $74k OTD on a new 1794 with the reported issues. So, today I canceled my deposit on an incoming 1794 due in on the 17th because I know I won't be able to enjoy it without worrying about turbos, wastegates, engines shutting off while doing 70mph on the interstate (two documented cases), etc.

I love Toyota and have had luck with a previous model Tundra, 4Runner, and Landcruisers. However, maybe it's COVID or just evolution but the new Tundra doesn't seem to exude quality as previous generations. Many documented quality control issues.

For what it's worth, I posted on the Toyota USA facebook page last night and asked about more details regarding defective wastegates and actuators. I was diplomatic and simply inquisitive asking for a Vin range of affected trucks and what the fix is if any. To my surprise, within just a couple of minutes, Toyota deleted my post.....no, I am not the smartest guy in the world but if you have nothing to hide, why not respond to my inquiry about factual, real problems the truck is facing? So, why is Toyota hush and what are they hiding from us? Just can't believe they deleted my post rather than answering my questions and speaking out about issues we are all dying to know more about. Very shady Toyota...VERY shady. Just my .02 cents.
