I bet the stock set up weighs more than most would think those rims are fairly beefy

My goal was 35s with minimal impact to fuel economy and this setup looks like it will fit the bill. If only I had my truck to mount these on….

Just ordered Method 316’s (18x9) and Geolander MTs (285/75r18) - but, for those of you that have trucks already does the spare have a TPMS? If not I need to buy an extra for the 5 wheel rotation but have no clue which one to get - any advice?

Lug nuts will work, they’re 14x1.5. Big boy lug nuts for a big boy truck. It’s not a Tacoma

Fwiw - RSSW website indicates these rims aren’t recommended for winter. Don’t know why, but…

Thanks. I posted it more to confirm bolt pattern, bore and offset. If i do get those atleast the factory rims won't see salt.

someone on a fb group mentioned his TRD 20” with tires came in ~74 lbs. if that’s accurate, I don’t think 4 extra pounds will cause too much of a drop in mpg. Time will tell!

Might be a dumb question, but can a tire shop "spoof" the ID of OE TPMS sensors for a new set of wheels & tires? This would allow me to swap between 2 sets of wheels & tires?

I've tossed around the idea of keeping my OE wheels & tires when I order some aftermarket rims & tires. I'm not exactly sure why I would do this, but I think it would be nice to have options. Planning on a few cross-country road trips and I think it would be nice on the MPGs to keep the factory road tires for long, long trips.

Don’t know if “spoofing” is needed or doable, but you could also just buy one set from Toyota and give them to tireshop to install on your new rims.

    just a thought

On my F-150 I didn't need to do anything. Just swap wheels and go. As long as they had sensors the truck figured out the rest. I can't speak on the Tundra though. Haven't been able to test that out yet.

I've gone back & forth on different tire options for after I put on the RC leveling kit. It'll be a few weeks before that happens since they're on backorder right now.

Weight has been a big decision driver (second to fitment) for me. I think I've decided on the following:
    • Wheel: G-FX TR-16 - 32 lbs per wheel. They're all black and they weigh a lot less than comparable Fuel or Method wheels. They're also cheap for the size @ $182/ea. They are a +12 mm off set. Pic at the bottom if anyone is curious what they look like. I like the "old school" style of these. Not big into lots of spokes.
    • Tire: 285/75/18 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac - 65 lbs per tire. Goodyear is not my first choice in A/T tire, but weight was a big factor. They're anywhere between 5-10 lighter per tire than a lot of competitors. Price isn't too bad at $281 a tire. Plus, there's not a ton of options in this size, but it gives me the effective clearance of a 35" without the extra weight.
The +12 mm off set scared me a little since most folks are going +20 / +19 mm. However, I measured the estimated "poke" on this setup vs my other option which was a +19mm wheel (Fuel Vector -really heavy wheel though) with 295/70/18 tires and the difference is extremely minimal (.08"). I think I'll be fine and it'll save some serious cash.

I'm open to comments if anyone has thoughts or if there's something I haven't thought of.

I like the “ol skool” look myself…but I don’t mind spokes either in the right fitment.

I think if you feel the poke is working for you then go for it. I just realize after looking at my factory 18’s in 295/70/18 Atturo Trailblade XT (62.5 lbs) that even though the wheel is like +50/60 or whatever offset Toyota uses the actual tires is relatively flush to the fender (see below)…so My range is +18 to +25
    EE15599D-CBB8-470F-9502-510EF53C05EF.jpg

Combined weight I am shooting for is somewhere under 80lbs combined, closer to 70 as possible

…this will cost me more as I need wheels in the sub 25 lb range but will be going down ton17’s to achieve that.

If I can manage to get one of the Jap spec lightweight wheels at a good price I will go for those also (Rays, Work, Gramlights, etc…thats the goal)…those will get me to the 18-22lb range per wheel.

So…I think you spent a long time going back and forth but if/once you have settled on what you love and it works for your budget, etc then cheers

what size tire are you looking for? Did you see my setup? That combo came in at 78lbs and that’s with a 315/70/17 (~35x12.50.) I also got everything on sale so I’m only into the whole set of 5 with TPMS mounted and balanced for $2633. I’d call that a bargain.

Would love to see the 285/75r18 setups once someone has them installed.

Yes…I did see your setup which I really like.
As a matter of fact that tire and wheel size is exactly what I am going for but those Motegi’s only come in Black/Bronze…and I was trying to avoid black rims on a dark truck.

So trying to find some gunmetal/Anthracite…if I get ALL the chrome deleted before purchasing the wheels then I will consider a dark/burnt bronze but I don’t really care for dissimilar metals on the truck at the same time (chrome and bronze).

You can find much lighter wheels from method, icon and Motegi (trailite 150's)

i totally get it. I didn’t want the black or bronze but couldn’t argue with the weight/price. If you aren’t in a rush, FN will have some wheels later this year that should fit the bill of light and not expensive. I really wanted to put te37xt m spec on it but i just couldn’t bring myself to drop that kind of money on a truck wheel. If it was a supra then sure lol.

What size tires will the spare tire well under the bed hold? (at what size, roughly, are we looking at a different mount for the spare)?

I started exploring this setup over the weekend. I really like it. They're a couple of lbs lighter than the other wheel that I was looking at while sticking to that +18mm to +20mm offset range. Can't wait to see this on some trucks.

Man I wish I saw those wheels in bronze before I ordered my Method 310's! I got a killer deal but those are way cheap and 2 lbs lighter than my Methods.
