Anyone choosing CM and 6.5’ bed?

When I had my 2020 Tundra CM I always wondered prior to purchase if the short bed would be an issue. Really was not and but also didn’t take it out on any long mega camping or hunting trips. Now that a longer bed is an option, may be looking at that route for my next Tundra purchase in 3 years

I've got a deposit down for a limited off road crewman 6.5. Plan on lots of traveling and road trips with the kids.

So I originally had a short bed ordered found a crew max 6.5 bed and bought it instead it was the only difference from the one I ordered and I love it that extra bed space sure does come in handy but I use the truck a lot

how many kids do you have? I have a 6.5 and a 5.5 ordered and am going through the same dilemma. Did you have a5.5 before? Any annoyances with the 6.5?

I have twin 10 year olds and two dogs I had a short bed Tacoma before this used to always drive long bed regular cab trucks before kids the short bed is definitely small in the Tacoma bigger in the tundra I was just worried what the overall look of the truck would be and I could say I am very pleased with the 6.5 bed in the new tundra

My Tacoma was a 2017 and I absolutely loved it the only reason upgrading to the tundra is we outgrew the interior of the truck with two kids and two dogs. Another positive is the gas mileage in the tundra is at least 6 miles to a gallon better than the Tacoma was

Thanks sparky - this feedback really helps.

My 6.5 keeps getting delayed and there is a 5.5 that will be available sooner so that was my dilemma. Like you, I think that the 6.5 will help with those long/camping trips. Are you finding it difficult to park or navigate?

There’s been a 6.5’ crew max around town, they look very proportional in person compared to other brands 4 door long beds. It’s still a long truck but think I’d lean this way for utility. Looks really good.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Go for the 6.5. I have a Honda atv and I go atving so the 5.5 is way too short.

I also carry 4x8 sheets of plywood for work and it’s just not enough room. I don’t know why 5.5 was designed

Agreed - I prefer the 6.5 proportions, especially with the Tundra.

How does it drive and park in the city or suburbs? I agree, the utility is wayyyy more useful if you do any construction or outdoors-ing.

So it took just a little getting used to coming from a short bed Tacoma still not too bad the camera views help greatly with parking especially in tight spots and realistically it’s only a foot longer than the short bed

Honest question for 5 ft truck bed owners. Why did you buy that instead of a Sequoia?

DarkMint: I want to keep the dead animal and wet gear smells from the cab. I am waiting on a CM with a 5.5' bed, I wanted the 6.5' bed but it won't fit in my garage without blocking the back door which I use regularly.

3" OME lift w/ UCAs. ARE overland shell w/ ARE roof rack. 34" Falken Wildpeaks. ARB awning. Road shower. Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo High Clearance. LED lighting upgrades. Lockerdown console safe. Weathertech floormats. Duluth deluxe rear seat cover to go under the offroad approved car seats.... :P
This is what I'm planning on when I look to add one of these to the stable in 2-3 years. Keep my 12' for hunting, wheeling and camping, and then get a CM, 6.5' bed TRD limited 24'-25' with the Max engine for daily driving and family trips. Would love a PRO, but the short bed is a deal killer, I find it mildly annoying on my current truck. Rather build out a nice limited with the factory 3" lift, probably swap out some interior trim for the Pro parts, the carbon fiber look of the console looks pretty sweet. Also put a topper on it to keep the bed looking proportional, I don't love the way it flows into the cab currently...

When I was shopping Sequoias we’re significantly more $$. I’ve always had SUVs prior so wanted the truck.

New member here, just purchased on Monday my CM and 6.5. Love it. but it is massive.
I don't normally go into the city for work, since its mostly work from home now-a-days.. however I did last week and when I hit a tight roundabout in Seattle, had to back up once or twice. It's a massive truck, but looks amazing.
Also if you plan on parking in a garage, be sure to measure first..
Alternatively the long wheelbase really does makes for a butter smooth ride. Taking it on a road trip next weekend to Portland and looking forward to the comfortable ride. She's a beauty. No regrets so far. Absolutely love this thing.. anxiously waiting for the aftermarket world to catch so I can make some improvements.

Summer can't come fast enough.. i need these TRD PRO owners to start listing their oem wheels on marketplace, as they upgrade to 37's lol..

Trim: SR5, TRD Offroad. 3.5 TT V6, non hybrid

The 5.5ft bed is perfect for me. I had one on a Sierra, I had a 6.5 on a F150 and my '05 Tundra has a 6ft bed. I've never needed more than 5.5ft. Anything big like an ATV or lumber, I'm putting on a trailer. I don't buy SUVs because they're more expensive than a truck and I don't want to put wet, muddy, bloody, smelly, dirty, greasy or other such cargo in the cab.

could you please take a complete sideways shot no angle. That’s a bad mamma jamma truck. I like white paint with black accents. Crazy how 1’ looks so different.

Does the longer bed have higher payload capacity?

I came from a f150 scab with an 8’ box, so the smaller box was never a thought. I love the crew max 6.5’. It even fits in my garage.

Cool dog! what percent tint did you do in the front? i love the look and looking to do the same. Not sure about the steering wheel/shifter either, looks like we have the exact same trim. Beautiful truck!

honestly, I’m not sure the percent, 15 or 20? They just matched it as close to the fronts as possible. I agree with you about some TRD pro wheels, but I’m not hating these rims. Might wear out these tires before I add bigger ones. Looking to add running boards, maybe a small level and add a wireless charger. Thinking about spray in box liner, I use the truck for work, just some added protection.

cool, yes im thinking 20% for the fronts as well. Thanks! I've been looking for some running boards as well, waiting for Toyota to have the oem automatic steps that come on the platinum trim. I found these GoRhino steps, but i'm not sure if they're actually for 2022 models since I know they're hard to come by at this time.. probably meant for 07-21.. but I do like the style.

Sounds like a nice build, I'm looking to do the same.

We are twins, I want the power steps but depending on how long they take, may just get some fixed running boards. I’m hoping Amp Research is developing some power steps as we speak. I’ll also be looking into the bed step.

I went with the 5.5’ bed because I want to park in the garage. I have a trailer if I’m dragging around anything substantial, and the 5.5’ bed is more than enough for daily hauling around. I know my use case isn’t the same as everybody, but it works for me.

Purchased a 6.5 Limited Crewmax in December. Never considered the 5.5 bed. Personally, I want the maximum bed capacity I can have in a truck. It’s big, but it’s also a truck. If I were worried about parking, I’d buy another Tacoma (which I just handed down to my daughter). I also think the 6.5 looks much more proportional with the Crewmax. Just my 2 cents.
