Howdy y’all, just wanted to share with you the newest project!
I installed some cheap Amazon pod lights in my rear bumper. With tinted windows and Toyotas sh*t reverse lights, this was my solution.

Cutting the hole in the bumper was a lot harder than anticipated, ended up using a Dremel. Then drilled holes for the hardware. After exposing all that fresh steel I painted over the cuts. Wiring the lights was relatively easy. I purchased a universal two led lead wiring harness that came with switch and relay. All I had to do was extend the harness and run the wiring to the lights. I ran my wires for the switch through the driver side rubber grommet. I also purchased an OEM style switch. The way I wired it was Black to Black, Green to Red, Red1&2 to white. This keeps the switch off (no backlight) unless engaged (full backlight on when pod lights on).

Excellent post. Where did you get the OEM style switch? Man I like this.

I got the switch, wiring harness, and the lights all from Amazon. I just typed in “tundra OEM style switch” and checked review photos to make sure previous owners installed it in a blank spot of a tundra.

The only down side to these switches are the backlights on them are very bright! Hence why I wired it so the backlight of the switch only comes on when activated.

I mounted in the plastic. Plastic won't rust and easier to cut. I tied in to the reverse light circuit behind the taillight. I have Leds in the reverse lights in the tails. They do a decent job to the sides but not straight back.

I don't recall. I have had them for several years. Just some 4" pods I got on Amazon

Here's the one I used. No condensation behind the lens after 2 years. Only thing I didn't like about it was that it did not come with a gasket for between the light and the bumper. I made my own.

Did the exact same. I didn’t want another switch, just for them to come on automatically. Them $30 Amazon lights work great for this stuff. 137B2578-7A28-49B8-AACC-EB273F4A9B27.jpg

I did not have a blank for another switch and even if I did I would not switch them. If for some reason you want them on when not backing up just turn key on and put shifter in reverse. Of course use the emergency brake.
