I have a 2021 limited. Every morning I remote start it to get it warmed up for my drive to work. As usual, it shuts off at either the 10 minute mark or when I place my hand on the handle to unlock and open it. However, on two occasions now, it has failed to shut off when I open the door. First time I got in and didnt think twice about it still running and when i went to put it into gear, it shut off. It would not allow me to start it for about 10 minutes. I could push the ignition button to get the accessories to turn on, but not the engine. After fiddling around it finally let me start it.
The next time it happened. I got in, engine still running, I figured if I turned the engine off, it would allow me to restart it with no issues. Not the case. It would not start. after about another ten minutes it allowed me to start it.

each time, the little red lock light would blink on the dash. I have no idea what i did to allow it to let me start it each time.

Has anyone else ran into this problem, and if so, whats the remedy?

    thanks in advance.

It's happened to me. I even made a post too.

A week after this did it to me, my truck wouldn't start after sitting overnight in the cold. Ended up being a bad battery.

Not sure if it's directly correlated but it may be worth having the battery checked. Dealership covered it under warranty since I was within 3 years 36k miles.

I have had this happen to me in my 21 as well. Are you remote starting from the app or using the key fob? I had the issue only when using the fob. I had been too cheap to re-up my remote connect and was using the fob. Before winter hit I re-upped and have since only been using the app to start and never had an issue. I have no idea if it is related to using the fob vs. app to start but I've successfully remote started about twice a day for the last two months without issue from the app.

I replied to one of these same ones a couple weeks ago. Mine has done it twice, the consensus is a glitch, I haven’t seen any remedy, seems like no luck at the dealer. Hopefully doesn’t happen often.

I have an aftermarket installed and have had it do this also. I think the truck door was not closed and had timed out it is the door pin sense that shuts it down first, but if some one was to get in through a window the brake is the second way to prevent drive off.

This has happened to me one time, I was able to get the truck to immediately start back up by opening and closing the door.

I don't know if this issue is in the air, but it happened to me this morning. I use the remote start from my key fob almost 90% of the time. When it happened this morning, I immediately thought about this site and reading about this issue. I was running late for a meeting too. I could not get it to turn off. I could lock the doors with the remote while the engine was still running. I could not shift into gear and the brake pedal was super hard and would not allow me to depress it down.

After trying to find a solution, it finally allowed me to hit the button and turn off the engine. I had about 4 warning lights flashing and the interior lights were on even with the doors closed.

I finally took a 10mm wrench and removed the battery terminal. I waited about 5 minutes and secured the neg terminal. The truck started and no issues followed. I later checked the battery and it was good. Weird!

Happened to me 3x’s this winter. Have to wait around 10 minutes then it will restart. Walk out and start it now. Crazy you can’t lock the doors if you start it and leave the truck to warm up?

I guess I will carry a 10mm wrench in my center console and just pull the battery cable every time this happens. It is cheaper than the Toyota App at $80 a year.

Has happened to me on about 6 or more occasions and I plugged in my code reader and it allowed it to start.

This was my exact experience. Dealer replaced my battery since it was just at a year old.

YES had the exact same issue last night with our Tundra TRD Sport. My wife noticed that when we used the remote starter, it blinked more than the usual 3 times. We had to wait 10 minutes before we could start the truck, nothing else worked, like opening and closing the doors and retring...just had to wait.

Sounds like some sort of an electric glitch. I have had this happen to my truck as well. The owners manual says that you can re-set by using the key inside the fob and locking and unlocking truck. I tried this once and it did work, but found it easier to just disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. That rests the electronics. You can than restart you truck immediately. Not a solution but a work around at least until this gets fixed by dealer.
