Ok. Let me preface this by stating that I use a computer all day, every day. However, I fully realize this does not make me an IT guy…

move gone in circles trying to get this little fucking red box to connect to my PC, and about to throw it away.

RC’s website sucks balls. Chat function goes nowhere.

Pissing and mining aside, I need some help. POS won’t connect to PC and the updated doesn’t recognize any device. God damn whore.

No worries Man. I’m not really that pissed. Just irritated that something this simple, in 2022, can’t be fucking plug and play with a newer PC.
It just goes in circles. The RC software doesn’t recognize a RC item…. Updated shows that it is up to date.

Sooo this happened to me. You must download the software then connect the box to your PC....that's the ONLY way it will detect the unit.

Did it that sequence. Downloaded the only software I could find on RV’s site. Just like the directions say. Then ran program, which is pretty crude, and then plugged in USB with red box. Then, click on “update or set up” (or similar verbiage, I’m not on it now), and then I watch the thing tell me no device is connected. It tries every three seconds. Nuthin.

Tried a different USB cord. Same.
Tried quickly plugging the box into a different computer. It recognized something plugged in right away but I did t let it download. (This was my work laptop, which has password protection for non-work related app downloads).
I plugged other shit into the USB ports on computer I’m trying to use. Work fine.

You probably checked but make sure you're on a PC with the compatible OS. Call RC if it won't work after downloading then plugging in

Good call. It’s Windows 7 Professional. RC shows 7, 8.1, and 10 being compatible.

Well, this has gotten interesting... It's been several days of trying to get support from Rough Country, and I can say with 100% certainty that I will never darken their doorstep again. Below is the last email that I sent in, and I will paraphrase the conversation that I had with Mitch this morning at the end of this post.

    Mitch,

I went through the suggestions you’ve listed for my device and we’re still dead in the water. In my computer’s device manager, I was able to locate the tuner device, but it is non-responsive.

I uninstalled it. Plugged it in again, and it is now recognized as existing but nothing more. I click to find any driver updates, but nothing comes up.

The notification I have now is “Device driver software was not successfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.”

Well Mitch, here we are! Can you provide assistance? Sarcasm aside, I’d really love to get this resolved so I can install the device in my truck. If you’re unable to help with this, we need to begin the return process for replacement right away please.

Let me know what we can do. I’m good with email or a quick phone call.

    Thanks,

    Chad

I called this morning and tried to get some support, but there was none. According to Mitch at RC, every device is tested and there is a zero-point-zero percent chance that there may be anything wrong with the hardware they have provided. No way for him to verify this has happened, and I call bullshit... I don't have more computers to try with, so I am up a creek according to Mitch. He had no interest in exchanging for a new one, only a return. Pretty solid customer service right there. Do not try to fix the problem, just argue that it can be nothing other than a computer with a compatible operating system that is fully up to date on software updates.

    Fuck you, Rough Country.

Who else makes a calibrator that may have some customer support if needed?

I'd be miffed too. Unfortunately, I believe HyperTech makes the RC versions so to go to them may prove redundant.

you have any buddies with a laptop or desktop running windows 10? maybe try on that and see if it works, or maybe go to your IT guy at work and see if they'll let you install the RC software for a day?
