Will you have problems with the your states' emissions people? I would verify that first before proceeding.

Modern catalytics are very high flow. Not as restrictive as before. Not sure if it will make much difference. The stock muffler is somewhat restrictive. Finally dumped mine but left everything else alone.

If you want to delete the cats you lose a slight bottom in in torque.

Do to todays ecm's checking cat with o2 sensors. Now if you delete the cat the ecm will know the values on the o2's will be the same and a cel (check engine light) will come on sooner or later with todays high refresh rate sensors. Upstream and downstream should not MATCH as in the cat delete why the cel will come on.

If you do delete the cat and dont want the CEL light to come on a rear sim is needed. http://urdusa.com/store/Electronics-Rear-Sensor-Simulator/c66_170/index.html I have one on my tacoma for 4 years now deleted cat and it does what it says it does. It tricks the ecm to open and closed fuel state so the cel will not come on..

After reading all the info, I probably won't remove the cat. I might have a cat back exhaust, some kinda air intake and a chip.
    Thx everyone, appreciated.

By chip, I hope you aren't referring to the the $40 ones...why not get a HT, or Bullydog if you aren't already planning that?

I went the low budget route. Stayed with single set up. I had a used (month or so) Borla Pro XS stainless swapped in for the stock muffler. Retained all existing pipes with some fit adjustments. Could have cut off OEM resonator on tail pipe but left it intact. No drone. I'm sure I gained some HP. Sounds real good. I have only had it since last Friday. On Friday prior to install my MPG indicator registered 10.9 MPG. Now reads 11.3 ( I did install a tonneau on Sunday and this will play into it too.) This is in town driving. I have a long trip coming up so I expect it go up anyways average wise. Still a good indication your MPG can improve if you can somehow force yourself to not get on it. Good luck with that.

Definitely not the $40.00 chip. Who makes a good chip? I wanna use it for more towing.

    Next questions.
Which cat back system works the best and the most quiet?
And which chip/computer program do you recommend?
    Thx

Borla or corsa is about as you can get quiet without stock exhaust. I have the borla on mine. Love it.

As for chipping hypertech something like that. But if you really want to do it right do a piggyback system.

Unichip it. They have the best curves for torque you seek on the 4.6. Plus the Unichip you can change curves so what suits you best.

How about air intake? Is it worth buying the cold air intake($500) or install K&N replacement filter($80.00)?

I was going to stay with the paper, but got a good deal for the K&N with discount at pep boys for $40+tax. Mainly to save a few bucks from replacing the paper ones. Like Mike said, the paper is alright unless you travel dusty back roads all the time. You'd be changing them a lot.

Got an email from K&N last week. If you order online any of their drop in filters or CAI's you get a freebie K&N hat. Think list for drop in is$56 plus shipping.

Change where you buy your fuel at. You might have contaminated fuel or rare cases the convertor is going out.

Im willing to bet you picked up fuel with a high sulfer content in it I bet, and yes even in gasoline engines just like diesel you have a sulfer exhaust.

@sean if the fuel has a high content of sulfer the cat really has to work hard to help get those parts per million (ppm) down why you have that smell. Down side it can plug up your cat faster.
