I can only imagine if the plan is to put a level or lift and run a larger off road tire, the steering effort will become even more difficult. I think you can have feel and assist. Many vehicles do. These run much heavier in effort than any other vehicle I’ve driven lately. Significantly so.

I heard about that cvt transmission. Not good. The 22 Frontier uses a 9 speed. Made by Nissan under license from Mercedes Benz in Japan. Not France. JATCO. 75% Nissan owned. Japan Automatic Transmission Company.

There is no change in steering effort at all. Nisstec has done several lifts now with no issues at all. None. I've talked with a few local guys at Nisstec and none of them complain about steering effort. It's hydraulically controlled steering with a lower ratio to give you better feel which is clearly lacking in most over nannied trucks being built today. It's a little truck. Not hard to park or steer.

I'm hoping that I don't jinx myself, but my wife has a 07 Xterra that's been a pretty good ride. Aside from a rear end, under warranty, its been pretty routine maintenance. A couple coils and unfortunately NE salt issues, but overall reliable. It still drives like the day we took it off the lot 14 1/2 years ago, with 160k on the clock. I need to take it in to have the exhaust rebuilt, but that's mostly again a salt belt issue. My only regret is not having it oiled all these years, as that's done wonders on the Tundra. She will NOT part with it, and I'm okay taking care of it. Maybe one day when it goes, we'll look into this Frontier.

I think they’ve done a tasteful job with it. They’ve managed to stay away from the curvy bubble looking design that the Colorado and Ranger seem to have. It looks like a truck. I actually like the previous gen, too.

Funny thing about the Titan, my dad had one in 2004 when they first came out. I loved that thing. The 5.6 was stout and he beat the snot out of that truck for 180k miles and it never let him down. These days, the Titans are so ugly to me, and the build feels dainty and feeble. But I still have to acknowledge that Nissans in my family have had a pretty decent history of reliability.

But this Tundra is the first truck I’ve ever had that’s not a Ford, so what the hell do I know? Lol

That Challenger will bring you to more debt, imo. Add on insurance (even if only listed as a Sunday vehicle) additional registration, any mods, tires, maintenance, fuel, and anything else. So unless you’re paying this car off in full, budget an additional payment and whatever else listed above. It sounds fun though :)

The Titan does look goofy. I've got a long time coworker that is pure Nissan. His wife just retired from a regional Nissan Corp position. You can prolly guess what every member of the family drives. Ha! My friend did like the new Ranger. Likes Ford trucks. I let him check out my Frontier. He's thinking about getting one.

The ranger is compelling for other reasons, although the interior is just as dated as the pre 22 tundra. They’re refreshing it next year, too.

I had a 1980 Datsun 4x4 PU. It was under powered, had manual windows and no a/c, but it was an absolute tank. It was my first 4x4. Brings back memories.

Most of those early mini trucks had small 4 bangers. Once lifted with bigger tires it only got worse, but were little tanks. The Chevy Luv was really iffy. Heh...heh

I considered the Ranger but the ass end is way too high. Beyond rake. I think a diesel is offered though with some decent torque specs. I just don't want to mess with diesel and that crazy rake going on.

The Colorado/Canyon didn't interest me at all although the ZR2 offering is somewhat formidable but too much $ for me.

I’d definitely go tremor if I got a ranger since it has what I consider normal rake, and the fox shocks. It is a very tall truck, though. The bed side height is almost as high as a tundra.

The Tremor is quite nice. I like being able to reach into the bed again and getting up on the tailgate easily. I was having some issues with my Tundra. Prolly cause I got old.......

The ranger is cool but not as manly looking as the frontier. The colorado/canyon looks like it sits way too low like most non HD gm trucks always have

Many report the same with the low speed feel. I could definitely feel the increased effort needed. Especially with tight parking spots. Many also appreciate the steering feel once up to speed.

It's noticeable but it's not as bad as some make it out to be. The poster's 8 previous vehicles had electronically controlled power steering. Of course hydraulic assisted steering will be different to him. I've been driving mine now for 5 months. On and offroad. I can park now at Trader Joe's downtown. I used to park my Tundra a few blocks away on the street. Ha! Another comical complaint with previous gen 2 owners is that the new Frontier is that nose is too long and can't see past it. Give me a freaking break. The 2nd gen was snub nosed. Big time. Of course it will be different looking past the front. SMH ha!

I don’t think your jinxing yourself because you got your money’s worth out of that truck. And all things considered that’s damn good for a vehicle that is constantly covered in salt during the winter months…

But nonetheless, here’s to many more miles. :hattip:

I had two different Titans (04 and 05) and only had minor non-engine related issues with them. I actually loved them overall. I've also had two Tundras (18 and 10) and both have had the cam tower leak, so take that as you will. As far as looks, both the new Tundra and new Titan look pretty hideous for the most part, in my opinion. Certain trims with lifts and wheels/tires can look good, though.

My dad has a 2016 Frontier that he bought new (different drivetrain than the new ones) and loves it—has had zero issues with it. Don't listen to the Nissan haters, they're the ones that will point out any little issue talked about on the internet and dismiss any issue about Toyotas as one-off complaints. I agree that the new Frontiers look great.

For what it's worth, when the current gen Titan came out, it had more tech features than any other truck in its class. The new Frontier gets all that now with the tech package. Transmission is the same as in the Titan. My cab is super quite. Sound deadening which the previous gen didn't have. The cab is also mounted on hydraulic cushioning pads. Super nice ride. I had a 09 Taco. No comparison at all. Jounces std on the rear. Front and rear anti sway bars std. Automatic Emergency Braking std.

I have a legit complaint about Nissan pickups. They do not float.

We unfortunately were not able to salvage that truck. He did replace it with a newer Nissan extended cab V6 - 6 speed in a beautiful blue color.

tbh, I still have my 2008 V8 4x4 Nissan Pathfinder SUV I bought new in 2007. I take care of it and will pass it on to my son to drive when he turns 16 in 2 years.
It has treated us well and plenty of family memories in it.
yes its a gas guzzler (V8 :)) but that thing rips on the freeway ramp and never let me down in the mojave desert nor ski resorts. I towed with it, "overlanded " with it before it was the new thing.
I only have yellow billies and KO2s on it. All it needs.

The new Frontier looks good (imo) and has basic gas engine that has been proven. Online reviews are good for it and for the price it's a good buy I believe.

    Just my experience with Nissan.

I would buy a Frontier over a Taco if it was today. Looks, power/tq, drivability would steer me that way. I don’t like the issues with the 3.5L motor in the Tacoma.

Co-worker that a 2010 Titan with 110k on it with no problems except the fuel consumption. Same guy also has an Infinity G37x with 130k miles. Did put a motor in it due to prior owner installing some fake iridium spark plugs and the electrode fell on top of the piston.

When in FL last year we rented a Nissan Altima SR. Pretty nice car.

My Lexus has electric steering and has really nice steering feel. At a dead stop it is harder to turn for sure.
Duramax has electric over hydraulic. That is a completely different feel for sure.

Just passed inspection for another year. My wife want's to see 200k, and I do all that I can to help achieve that goal.
