Hadn't come across this before; after a light rain Saturday night I came out for work on Sunday and after I had driven a couple feet, I thought I saw water dripping onto the rear passenger seat. Pulled over to check and sure enough, there's a slow but steady drip from the rear most edge of the headliner, dead center of the back window, dripping down and hitting the center seatback.
Have to assume it's from the little sharkfin antenna assembly not being sealed properly. Noted at that time that the cover for said antenna was missing. Is the seal in the cover itself? I would expect that it would be on the base of the thing but who knows these days.

I didn't take a picture yet but the entire rear edge of the headliner is not tucked into anything and has a sort of uneven looking edge. I'll post a pic later to see if that's normal as well.

Either way, set up to leave with Toyota tomorrow night for repair.

I am going to guess it may be the 3rd brake light. as far as the headliner edge looking uneven, kind of unfinished, yes that can be normal unfortunately.

    That sucks ass man.

Pandemic quality, what can you do.

May be roof antenna, may be rear window seal, not sure if the 3rd brake light could cause this but I guess it's possible....
Could also somehow be a hole in your roof somewhere like under the molding but thats unlikely.

Glad it's under warranty and hope they can make it right for you without 6months of backorder bs.
    Good luck

I'd check the 3rd brake light. My 07 and 14 had the same headliner issue. Basically normal.

As someone who has had vast experience in the 3rd brake light leak dept, I can tell you they leak. Dealer will do the shower head leak test for 30 min or so and probably slap another OEM light in there with some RTV. Hopefully that does it but I don't have any confidence in the stock light seals due to the weak mount design.

    This is good to know.

I will have to keep an eye on mine now.

I did notice I botched the pos seal when I replaced my 3rd brake light bulbs a few months ago.
I see the pos grey seal hanging out the bottom middle of my housing.

I've noticed when driving through the car wash that air blows in from somewhere, probably the antenna or CHMSL. Very strange feeling. Haven't noticed any water though.

If you ever get fed up with the OEMs, I suggest going full fix:

Left it this afternoon at the dealer. Got a new rav4 as a loaner. Funny to have all the buttons compared to my rather sparse SR5. Not a chance I'd ever swap although I bet I get a bit better mileage in this little thing.

Positive: They texted me from the dealership to make sure it was okay to keep the truck overnight and stay in the loaner. Negative: didn't answer when I asked if they had figured out where the water was coming in, the antenna or the third brake light area?

Did get it back a few days later, paperwork wasn't done and service advisor was out. Finally, today, I received the repair order in the mail and it says, "Antenna cover causing water to leak into cab." It did not have a cover on it when I dropped it off. I had ordered one in to be installed while it was there. I don't know, looking at how the cover attaches to the antenna...who knows, I haven't seen water since and it's rained a few times. Hope it's all good.
