I have seen few threads on issues, and with my upcoming truck delivery, I am creating a little list of PDI items that I will be looking out for. This is based on member contributions and general stuff. I am using it for my reference, but hopefully it will be helpful to others. Please let me know if I have missed something to look out for and I will edit this first post to reflect added suggestions. Some items may be a bit obsessive, but for those who want to take note of it, I have included it.

    BODY
    • Check to see if gaps between hood and fenders are even @MJPlat
    • Ensure pillar vinyl is not curling or coming off
    • Check to see if rear bumpers installed straight and evenly spaced @Woodman427
    • Check to see if there are any bumps on the fender flares. Stand at about a 35 to 45° angle from the truck 6 feet plus from the wheel to see if you have them. There have been 2-6 bumps possible on each trim piece. Thanks @Donas
Ensure no bumps on any body panels (reports of bumps possibly due to fasteners)
    • Check for panel rust or dark spots from train transport
    • Confirm no burnt-out LEDS in front, rear, or marker lights
    • Run hand over entire body and check paint for smoothness. Reports of gritty paint. @Donas
    • Check for dings, scratches, etc
    DRIVETRAIN
    • Check all fluids
    • Check to see if the engine is warm to see if dealer pre-warmed it before showing you.
    UNDERCARRIAGE
    • Using a flashlight, check for rust
    • Look at rear axle bolts and ensure that they are visibly tightened

    WINDOWS/DOORS
    • Check front door seals as some are not installed correctly or are cut too small @MJPlat
    • Check window seals as some have large gaps in the seals.
    • If you are supposed to have side dimming mirrors, check to see that you have both installed and not just a driver-side mirror. @Donas
    • Check for gaps in the panoramic roof seal
    BED
    • If equipped, check that spray in liner is not peeling off from bed liner @Tundra246
    • Check to see if bed is installed straight and is not warping (particularly on the cabin end) @Woodman427

    CABIN
    • Ensure good stitching on seat covers
    • When adjusting the seat, make sure the seat rails do not make a pop sound.
    • Test all steering wheel buttons
    • Run car and check for any engine lights
    • If purchased, check for wheel lock key
    • Check to see if all weather mats (Canada) included
    • Run the A/C and check if it s blowing appropriately (A/C may not be functioning if dealer has not done their PDI yet)
    • Turn on heated steering wheel and check warmth and distribution
    • Run heated and ventilated seats in front and back.
    • Check the decorative door moldings (black strip down the doors) to ensure properly alignment and that they aren’t snapped. @frogg3r
    HEAD UNIT
    • Do not download the app ahead of meeting with dealer. Let them initialize everything to prevent connectivity issues.
    • Turn on every camera and check to see if all are functioning. There have been reports of some producing a purple screen.
    • Connect phone to bluetooth to see if it works @Woodman427
    • Place phone into charger to ensure it continues to charge
    • Turn on a play music. Ensure all speakers are working.

    TEST DRIVE
    • Listen for wind noise from driver and passenger doors at higher speeds @Dagwood
    • Listen for rear glass rattle or box rattle noise
    • Test all steering wheel buttons for driving functions
    • If test driving for a distance, ensure that fuel gauge is changing with fuel consumption. @pbmax
    • Run through camera modes as well as the reverse camera to ensure proper functioning @Mikey1793
    • Check function of lane departure, cruise control, and braking.
    • Shift into 2L, 4L, and 4H and drive a bit keeping in mind any noises.
    • Using an app like Maps, check to see is speedometer is accurate
    • Drive through a number of terrains and listed for odd noises relating to brakes, shocks, shifting, engine
    • Make sure GPS works and that phone connects to Apple/ Android program (after dealer PDI)
    • Give it some gas and ensure that your boost gauge is working (need to engage turbo with some good "pedal-to-the-metal) @22PlatWCP
    CUSTOMIZATION
    • Have them customize the key fob so that all windows (or all windows and panoramic roof) open when holding down buttons
    • Ensure that all paid-for options have been installed.
    • Have dealer provide you a copy of their PDI document
    • Remove all stickers and dealer propaganda from the car
    AND OF COURSE:

You missed something of vital importance.

Under "Test Drive" I would make sure to add:
    • Put it in "Sport" mode and effin' SEND IT!
Also...don't forget to actually enjoy the experience. :)

Add in "Check the decorative door moldings", basically the black strip down the doors. I looked at a platinum and as soon as I opened the rear passenger door, the black molding caught on the front door and snapped the molding. According to dealer it is "port installed" and was aligned improperly, not giving it enough clearance.

Wow, that's a serious list.... unfortunately all legit, lol. Not sure if others posted about the issue or not but I posted about the bumps on the fender flares. To see them best, stand at about a 35 to 45° angle from the truck 6 feet plus from the wheel and they really jump out. My truck has 2-6 on each trim piece.

Another issue that I have I did not see on your list is to check the side view mirrors if you're supposed to have auto dimming. The auto dimming mirror is easily identifiable as there's a slight ring around the entire mirror about ¼ inch in. They put an auto dimming mirror on my driver side and a regular mirror on my passenger side. Both my spec sheet and the manual specify "mirrors".

Another issue to add to your list, based on my experience, is to check the paint finish closely. None of us noticed when it was on the lot but I happened to put my hand on it getting gas one day and noticed 12-15 bumps in the paint. Feels like 24 grit sand paper.

On the auto dimming side mirrors has it been confirmed your supposed to get on both sides? The day I picked mine up there were four tundras ranging from SR5 to platinum and all of them had only one side of auto dimming mirror as far as I could tell. Not doubting anyone but I know it was talked about a while back but I didn’t find the thread with it to see if confirmed. Overall great list.

Well, it's hard to get confirmation on anything with Toyota relative to the 22! Here is what my spec sheet, which has vin#, as well as the manual says. Whether they only intended to put a dimming mirror on the driver's side or not, this seems pretty clear to me.

My dealer is "looking into it".

It does read like it should have it on there by the use of mirrors but again no one can confirm they have two with it on their truck. Honestly I haven’t noticed in mine only thing I do notice is mine has the glass within the glass look on the driver side. Both of mine defrost also. My rear view mirror has the auto dimming and the camera for the rear view has auto dimming or what ever that feature would be on a camera. Will definitely follow to see what the dealer says. Nothing would shock me lol.

So I have two trucks on order and I went to go see the wind chill pearl platinum 5.5 bed that arrived. This one was the front runner so I was excited to see it. With close inspection of the truck using the checklist, I was so disappointed at the quality.
    • The front bumper was painted a completely different shade. There was someone looking at it as well and I kept returning to see if it was the light, and the guy went "you see it too?". Completely different shade of white no matter the angle.
    • The hood was littered with rail dust rust spots. Probably around 30 small dots (hard to see on the photo)
    • There was paint pooling on the hood leading edge with something under the paint
    • The grill had a spacing of ¼" on one side and barely ⅛" on the other
    • There was a vertical dent in the driver-side door
    • The gap between the body panel and the hood looked completely warped.
    • The black roof tape/plastic seam cover was coming off.
    Nope, pass.

    wow, thats really off.

I had a dealer call me the other day asking if I still wanted a platinum and I told them Im going to pass at this time. it wasnt exactly what I wanted anyways, but the QC just seems to be really lacking now, especially for 65-70K.

what did they have to say about it?

it looks like part if standard white and the other is windchill , thats really shitty, the hood alignment is totally off/

how does shit like this pass final QC at toyota? thats not the Toyota I ahve known for many many years

The pictures don't even do it justice - he paint was totally off. I shined a light at it and moved around (and even had two other sets of eyeballs on it) and all agreed. The hood looks like it bulges out and then back in. Totally unacceptable. I have been fondling a lot of platinums and 1794s that come in and none looked like this one - the may have had some trim issue that could be adjusted, but this one seemed like they had a drunken party on a Saturday night, snuck back into the factory, and tried to see if they could slap together a truck while completely inebriated.

I didn't even talk to the sales rep. I walked around it for about 15 minutes and just said nope. I requested a refund of my deposit.

The other truck I had come in was a Blueprint blue in 6.5 crewmax and after seeing this one, I went to go check that one out again in cased I missed something. Everything looked spot on - no rust, everything aligned, no paint issues. I think I'll be going with this one.

Yup, will be using this list as well. Perfect.

I guess you could add: Ensure all Recalls [Safety Stop in play at the moment for Back-up Camera] are complete and up to date, including Infotainment Software.

On that recall matter, there is not one yet for the high speed shutter CEL, but has that been addressed in a Software update? Hearing that its a simple fix at the dealership. If it can be done before we pick up our rigs, saves an extra visit.

I wonder if the new Tundra would have less issues if it was built in Japan. From my experiences it seems most American workers don’t have the same work ethic like they did years ago, care, quality and doing things correctly isn’t what it once was.

yeah no salesperson/manager is going to do that list and tell the customer "nope cant sell it because of all these issues. come back when toyota fixes them"

they are going to most likely say yep dont see anything major wrong. cause 90% of people will not notice those things and just buy the truck.
