Any cons to replacing the taillights? Seems id seen a few posts in the past about it causing some issues. Is it better to just keep em stock? Im contemplating ordering the alpharex ones that are on pre-order

No cons that I’ve heard of with those particular headlights, with any aftermarket light housing there’s always the chance that it’s not sealed as well as an OEM part and you can have condensation buildup inside following a car wash or wet weather. Heard of fuses being blown with some subpar aftermarket lighting choices. I have the the Morimoto headlights on mine and the quality seems great, no moisture inside of them yet after a year. Another pro of the Alpharex tails is that you don’t have to replace the brake light/night driving light. I believe it plugs right into the harness and is your LED.

There was a recent post about an aftermarket stereo install that experienced issues (cut outs) when the brake pedal was applied.

His aftermarket LED tail lights were interfering with the stereo. They weren’t Alpharex, can't recall the brand.

Have read mixed reviews about the Alpharex. But don't recall very much negative reported on here.

I feel your best bet would be to replace the halogen bulbs in the stock housing with quality LED bulbs.
I've never found a set of aftermarket tail lights that didn't look stupid, including the Alpharex.

I’ve replaced all my bulbs in the stock housing with LEDs. For some reason, randomly, I’ll find that the drivers side turn signal one has popped out of the socket and is rattling around inside the housing. And the other day I was at the dump and someone said my passenger brake light was out. My wife looked while I pressed the brake and said same thing. I got home, discovered the drivers turn signal was popped out again, fixed it (have to pull the taillight and then fish the bulb out of the cavity), then set up my phone to video while I checked the brakes. The both lit up… so no idea what my wife of the other lady saw (perhaps they thought the top and bottom bulb should light up, when they don’t on the Tundra).

Anyway, between my intermittent bulb-popping-out-of-socket issues and the fact I’m not a huge fan of how the lights are configured on the Tundra (small lower brake light only, turn is most of the tail), I’ve been thinking about aftermarket. I kind of like the new black alpha’s, and the new morimoto clear/black aren’t bad either. Buy I’m always leery of non-oem light housings after so many horror stories of shitty Gen2 headlights when I had my 2008.

I went with the tailights from HiRev. Simple plug and play. No condensation or electrical issues and the dark smoke looks so much betteer than the OEM blind me red. Going on two years now.

Yeah I've been going back and forth between the newly release Morimoto tails and the HiRev ones. I like the look of the Morimoto a bit more especially since i have to go with a clear lens because of where I live-although would prefer smoked. The price of the HiRev is much more reasonable though. My big thing is not wanting to re-use the factory bulbs which is what some of the tails do. That may be something for the OP to think about too, not only look but functionality of a tail light that re-uses factor lights versus ones that have all LED's.

How is the brightness of the reverse of the Hi-Rev's? I have a dark long driveway I back down a lot and was hoping they were relatively bright.

The brightness with the smoked lens is actually still a bit better that the OEM. If I need more than that I just put my cargo lights on too
