The new Dashcam for the Tundra is an easy install and no running wires but I was wondering about the quality of the video! Did you run the wires through the trim?

My integrated dashcam constantly beeps and lights flash. Dealer says that it is a chip (not micro sd card) issue. There are no chips available and Toyota also has them on back order. I have to turn off the dashcam every time I start the car. If it starts to beep and flash, it will continue to even after the truck is turned off (unless the camera itself is manually turned off).

    That’s interesting :monocle:

…according to the manual (attached) that’s exactly what it does when it doesn’t have an SD card…I don’t read anything about a chip.

Did you check to see that the correct type of micro SD card is inserted?

    Solution to stop the beeping:
    1. Go into the dashcam app
    2. Make sure you're connected to the dashcam
    3. Reformat the SD card
    4. Turn truck off, then on and the beep should be gone

    !WARNING!
Reformatting the sd cardwill delete any existing videos, so be sure to save any videos you want to keep somewhere else.

This worked for me. I guess it's a way the dashcam let's you know there's no sd card/sd card error?

man that is some low quality video, like $89 value dashcam.

for $499, you would have been better offf getting a

VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K 2-Channel Dash Cam with GPS ($250 for 4k) or a

BlackVue DR900X-2CH Plus Dual-Channel Cloud Dash Cam ($469 for 4k)

Low quality? That looks great to me. Please post one of your video snips so we can see the difference.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a 1080p camera or its quality if all you care about is capturing events and proving fault. But for the Toyota one you're paying almost 4x what you should. You can get the same (if not better) image quality out of the garmin mini 2 which is smaller than the trucks keyfob and has the same sensor in it. And for not much more you could have front and rear cameras at 4k res which brings out a heck of a lot more detail, at way less than half what Toyota is charging.

take that same low quality video and try to read a license plate in daylight or night time and good luck with it. i would prefer to get a 2k or 4k cam high quality brand so i can read license plates if need be.

from what i can see in that post the quality isnt great, fuzziness in the tree's and white stripes of the road and the grass on the top right at night.

here is the viofo 129 pro 2ch 4k video, just make sure you select 4k playback https://youtu.be/Hkp2Bxubhrg

here is the blackvue 900x 2ch 4k video, just make sure you select 4k playback https://youtu.be/DM4a5l92N-o

right now its a toss up between the viofo 129 4k or the blackvue 900x. probably get the 900x for the new 4runner and the a129 for the new tundra (even though the wife hates it). hopefully if i get it installed professionally she wont mind as much.

I almost didn't get the viofo because of the look (something about the wedge style feels wrong). I'm glad I did though, the pics online make it look huge when in reality it's quite small and I don't even notice that it's there. It looks way better in person.

she hates having a camera in the front windshield, says it looks tacky.

she doesnt like anything obscuring the view out the front or distracting while driving.

on the camera we have now the sd card slot is on the left side instead of right side like it should be. so we have to offset it more to the passenger side from the rear view mirror.

also on the 2022, since you have the camera in the front windshield and by how much they blank off beyond the housing, you may have issues with being able to hide it behind the rear view mirror.

Can anyone run Apple CarPlay with the dashcam connected? I have to turn the Bluetooth off to connect to the dashcam and then when I connect my phone with a cable I still can’t connect my music and maps.

You can’t access the live dash cam and use apple car play at the same time. I haven’t had time to get a full tutorial from the dealership but hopefully someone there has enough knowledge to show you how it all works.

The manual gives a decent explanation (I don’t have a ready tutorial at hand). My dealer/service advisor wasn’t a lot of help from a tutorial perspective so good luck if yours is better.

Wireless CarPlay uses both Bluetooth and Wireless to connect and send all of that data…so while you are connected to wireless CarPlay you can’t access the camera live.

Simply put the DashCam connects to your phone’s wireless which enables you to see live…otherwise you can pull the SD card and download to your computer after the fact.

There is an extensive DashCam thread around here from a few months ago I will post when I find.

Hello everyone. I new to the forum and just purchased a 2022 Tundra 4x4 with a factory installed option integrated dash cam . It won't stop beeping and won't record. Took it to the Toyota dealership and no one could help stating non of the techs had any experience with the factory option. I'm going to buy a new SD card and have two questions I hope you gurus can answer.

    1) How do I format or reformate the SD card?
    2) What is the most memory high endurance gigabyte micro SD card recommended? It came with a 15gb card that I believe is corrupt and I was considering getting one with more memory.
    3) I have the Toyota Integrated Dashcam app that I am using. Is there a different app I should be using to connect to the camera?

Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your feedback.

    Sean

Youve got the right app, the constant beeping ususally does indicate an issue with the card -

    1) you can do it from the app after conencting to the deivce or from a computer (FAT32)
    2) i installed a 128GB card in mine, but had to format it on a computer
    3) there is a viewer app as well i think, but so far ive only used the integrated app and downloaded interesting clips

I wanted to thank you for the help on formatting the SD card so it would work in the Toyota Dash Cam... it worked great. The camera has stopped beeping and is working properly. I am still having problems connecting and staying connected to the smartphone using the Toyota integrated app. Once connected it takes forever for the recording to pop up and I still have not been able to view a scene. It just spools when I choose one. I am sure I could always remove the SD card to view the content on a computer but that seems inconvenient. Maybe it's some setting I need to change on my phone. I'll try some more this weekend and reply if anything changes.

I think i saw it somewhere else on here , but disable bluetooth on your phone and that will stop it from trying to switch the wifi back over for CarPlay.
It still is pretty slow, but seems to stay connected
