upload_2022-4-22_16-28-2.jpg upload_2022-4-22_16-28-3.jpg Has anyone had this issue using the plastic/trim restorer run like this after a rain? I’ve used it before along with other products and it’s never happened. The runs are only on areas where I used it like door handles, and tonneau cover etc..

Did you wipe the excess off after it sat for an hour or so ?
I use that all the time and have never had a problem with it .

Yes, I’ve used this a bunch of times and I had put it on like a week ago even. I was really surprised to see it.

Pretty much every coating behaves the same. Liquid, looks good for a while until it gets wet and then it runs.

Check out Cerakote. Great for hard plastics like top of the bed rails, handles, mirror caps, bumper trim, mudflaps. Just make sure to follow the instructions and that whatever you are applying it to is fully dry.

My only guess is maybe If it is an old bottle it has degraded and lost its ability to sink into the pores and stay on the surface where you rub it in, and it’s time to trash it. If this is not so, no idea.

I used to use this kind of stuff on black trim and never had it run off.

That’s a good idea. I’ve used cerakote for other applications.

It was a brand new bottle that I’d just purchased and have used the same stuff a few times before. I usually use chemical guys products for everything but they were out. Either way it’s never happened before using the Meguiars or any time in my life. Must have just been a bad batch or something.

I agree that most liquid trim restorers will do that. I started using their ceramic version and I think it does much better.

Seems like every product with ceramic in it tends to work a bit better. I use it in products on the paint for sure and even on the interior.

Just tried Ceramic detail spray for the first time and must say it took way less effort to buff out than nearly any product I have ever used and creates a very deep and lasting shine.

What do you all think about the brand 303? I’ve read some good things about them. I live in Southern California, so for me it’s more about protecting the plastic from the sun and heat. I just had to replace a hinge seal on my OEM tonneau cover because the heat cooked it and it started to crumble off and became sticky and in the sun and would almost gel if it sat in the sun.

This was the same day washing it to get the runs off. I use Chemical Guys ceramic wash and then detail it with their ceramic detail spray.
If I had to do it again, I would have the whole truck professionally ceramic coated right off the lot when new. I’m finding with a black truck it’s worth the money.

I use a product called clutch from shine supply. They are in California and make awesome stuff. I love it on my bed cover. Or go with cerakote for a long term solution.

I detail for $ and use a product called Solution Finish. It's expensive but goes a long way, does great and lasts approx. 1 year. I get no $ or anything for suggesting them. Thx.

Cerakote trim coat is the best trim product I’ve used. Lasts for a long time and doesn’t run fade etc.

303 is good for the interior only as its water based and comes off in the rain. Mothers Back To Black works well but does not last much longer. careful with Ceramics as they can damage what they are put on overtime, just like too much tire dressing.

I have never heard ceramics damaging what they are put on. I have been using multiple ceramic coatings for paint and trim for years with no issues.

OP look into cerakote , GTechniq C4, or Carpro Dlux. All will work better than any dressing and last much longer. I can easily get a year of C4 before needing another application.

If you do a little research you will find what I am talking about especially in humid climates like Fl. If one chooses to use something Ceramic based just understand there are drawbacks. Do you detail vehicles for a living?

No, I do not detail for a living but I have done it for side work. While maintaining our own 3 vehicles. I have followed many professionals and you are the first person who has said ceramic will damage the surface it is applied too. All products have drawbacks but you said ceramics will cause damage yet have failed to elaborate. I asked to try and learn something new while taking in another person’s experience. At the moment I am inclined to call BS on it damaging what they are put on.
