Looking for recommendations on the best, aftermarket remote start. I have a 21 SR5 x-series package if that matters. I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube but wanted to hear multiple peoples experiences. I definitely don’t want to get one where the keyless entry stops working.

    thank you in advance!

    Welcome to the forum.

    I have a Compustar alarm/remote start on my 2014.
I've been very happy with it.

I use the Drone Mobile App with it, although a subscription is needed for the app.
I use the key fob a lot more than I use the app.

Dont 2020+ come with factory remote start with the Toyota app? I have a 19 and installed one from here https://www.12volt.solutions/ works with the normal key fob. I believe any truck with a push button start unfortunately shuts off when you open the door, unless something has changed and they found a work around.

I don’t think mine came with it from the factory, but I’ll try checking with the app again.

also, I have the traditional key with fob, no push start

Oh okay maybe it was just the trims that came with push button on 2020, for some reason i thought 19 was the last year for a key. The 12volt solutions system was 100% plug and play for my 2019, they have great instructional videos too. I was just looking on their site and it seems you now need to make a purchase in order to access the videos but i remember it being very thorough along with the instructions that were in the box. I looked up the 2020 kit with a key and it says 99% plug and play with one wire needing interruption, typically the TPMS wire. Probably a little more pricey than the other options but i was going for the easy install. They typically have a sale on black Friday. https://www.12volt.solutions/produc...e-start-kit-h-key?_pos=2&_sid=86ef7825b&_ss=r

I paid to have installed 7 years ago.
Had it done the 3rd week after buying the truck..

I can install a lot of stuff, even audio, but that alarm had too many wires for me to solder..

do you have issues with unlocking doors? I have to wait like 1-2 seconds after pressing unlock the first time in order to unlock the rest of the doors. If I mistime it I have to wait a few seconds in between attempts and try again.

I cant just double press it immediately like I would the oem tundra fob

other than that I like the Compustar remote start I have and would recommend

I think I did have the issue you brought up, so changed it to unlock all doors on the first push.
There is a setting in the HU, I have it set to unlock all doors on the first push.
I vaguely remember my wife looking at me like 'WTF' when her door didn't unlock.

I also have a 3W one touch up/down window module.
You're supposed to be able to lower windows by pushing 'unlock, lock, unlock', but I have a hard time doing that with the Compustar remote.
There is some issue with the timing sequence, probably the same issue you're having trying to unlock all doors on the second press..
But when I lock the doors, all 4 windows go up if any of them are down.

I forgot to mention, I don’t want one that has an alarm on it or a new key fob that I’d have to use. I’m looking for one that will work with the factory key fob.

I tried to do some research online to see if my truck came with it from the factory, I’m seeing some conflicting info that says you can just add the Connect service app thing and then it will work, anyone have any experience with that?

There was a Fortin Evo 1 in the marketplace yesterday for $125. Not sure if it is still available.

This is the way to go.
Works with oem key fob or the app.
The Car Link is the only one that doesn’t turn the vehicle off when you get in.
*As long as you don’t touch the brake pedal before turning key to on position.

Another vote for 12 Volt Solutions. I installed one in my truck and wife’s Highlander. Completely plug and play and a very easy install.

Thank you all for the replies!

so it seems the 12voltsolutions and startx are very similar, does anyone know if one has a better track record? Better customer service? Etc.

Also, does anyone with the 12volt think it’s worth the extra $200 for the app module?

The Toyota app sucks compared to DroneMobile. DroneMobile is much faster when it comes to starting my Tacoma compared to the Toyota app for the Tundra.

I had a artic start remote starter installed 3 yrs ago. I like that it does not shut off when you open the door, just put your key in and turn and it will stay running. Touch the brake and the truck shuts off and has decent range. There are many good ones to choose from.

I put an Accessorides in my wife's 4Runner which uses the OEM keyfob and has been completely hiccup-free. Put a 12 Volt Solutions in my truck (no OEM keyfob - so using theirs) and their 'master' remote stopped working. Lazily, I swapped to the valet one but really should check the battery. Have tried contacting 12 Volt numerous times because my truck will not lock from their system, and honestly, their support sucks. "Oh yeah, we want to help figure this one out. We've never heard of this problem before. Let me get so and so involved." Then - *crickets.*

Also, completely pointless, but both send you a 'handout' with purchase. Accessorides sends a trim removal tool and 12 Volt sends a towel. Not worth making a decision upon, but come on, a microfiber towel is just stupid.

Accessorides gets my vote for keyfob-operated solutions.

PS - both let you remotely start and then unlock/open the door with the engine still running.

I have 12v solutions. Love it. The app is great, 99 for 3 years (after the first included year) for the cellular & it gives cellular GPS location so if stolen you might be able to find it.

I have had great service & they are vets so there's that.

I have the dealer installed remote start, and no I don't care that it shuts off to get in, but I would like one with an actual alarm. That being said, has anyone replaced their dealer installed setup for a bona-fide alarm?

Fortin Evo 1 on my 2019 and my 2014. Has worked perfectly every time.

the new one (2019) I’ve got to slow down the “Mississippi’s” between the 3 button presses but no big deal I’m older and slower too.

I have the 12V solution with the app. It's great. The tech support is awesome. Not sure where you're located. But being able to cool my truck off in the summer or warm it up in the winter before I get to it. Is worth every penny. Since you have a 21 with push button start. It is double duty on the starter. Meaning when you open the door the truck will shut off. One of the main reasons I didn't move up to that year model. If that's not a problem for you, make the purchase. Installation was vey easy.

Yeah I’m in northern Florida so I definitely need it for the cooling down in the summer and heating in the winter.
I have a key, not a push button so from what I understand as long as I get the harness for the tps it shouldn’t shut off when I open the door, is that correct?

I had a Compu Star Pro T11 on my 2017. Worked great!
3 mile range, two communication between the remote and truck and no subscription fee.
On my '21 I just use the app.

I called Toyota and my truck did not come equipped for remote start. So stupid, why put it on some but not others?!?!
