Key Fob Cover

Is the 3rd gen Tundra key the same as any other Toyota's? Not seeing many options out there for the 22 and wondering if something else will fit.

 

Idk about you but I’d really like to see something to make an actual key ring fit the key fob. That tiny ring is trash.

 

I went on Amazon and bought a pouch that works as a signal blocker to also protect against piracy of the key fob signal. Also holds my credit cards. I think it was around $10.

Well built key fob. I have AJT design key fob in my previous vehicle(Tacoma).

 

Nice, I pre-ordered one from AJT to try it out. It says fulfillment starting at the end of July, wonder how accurate that will be.

 

AJT mentions in their video the Tundra key is the same dimension as some Rav4 and Venza keys. I'm going to try a case for one of those as well.

Is the point/design just intended to have a ‘stronger’ key fob that can stand up to abuse?

…and I am going to guess this still enables the signal to be sent to the truck so that the touch senors to lock/unlock still work?

 

It would be really nice if somebody made a replacement fob housing that was smaller than factory. Key fobs lately are so large to carry around in my pockets. How am I supposed to wear my skinny jeans with this giant fob bulging out of my pocket? May need to invest in one of those custodian key leash things.

But to your point, if it does make it stronger, it would save a considerable amount of money replacing a busted one for just a few bucks. I think the dealer said the replacement was like $400 or something? woof.

 

I cracked my key fob for my 2012 4Runner not long after buying the vehicle in 2013. The plastic "arch" where the metal key ring threads through broke. I dealt with the loose key in my pocket for a couple of months until I came across AJT's website.

I purchased the AJT key kit in a black & red combo to match the TRD color scheme. That thing held up for nearly 10 years until we finally sold the 4Runner a couple of months ago.

I can't speak highly enough of the AJT stuff. That dude really puts a lot of effort in the measurements & designs.

The only thing I'll say is this: You have to be comfortable disassembling the OEM key fob, including the "delicate" RFID chip/circuit board, and transferring that stuff to the new fob housing without breaking it. My 2012 Toyota key had the RFID chip partially glued in place. It took some careful heat and patience to get it out without damaging it. I haven't opened the 22 Tundra fob to see if it would put up the same fight or not. I'll probably preorder the AJT fob housing.

On a total side note: It also tended to be a cool conversation piece whenever I'd loan out my 4Runner or drop it off for service. Dealerships see the same key hundreds of times a day so when you drop something new in their hands, it generally stands out. Just a bit of cool factor.

 

i have the ajt case on my 2021 camry which is the same as the rav4 and tried on the tundra fob and no they are not the same they are similar but have a few different things that don’t fit, the key itself is a bit taller.

 

Has anyone found any good replacement options for the factory fob beside the AJT type listed above? The factory fob feels so cheap and frail compared to any other fob I've owned in the past.

+1 for AJT, fitment is spot on.

 

my ajt fob is a tight fit. the release button is very hard to release the emergency key. when i remove the back cover, the spring works like normal. not a deal breaker since i dont ever expect to use the e-key anyway. if i have too i just know i have to jam something behind the tab to release the e-key.

I have a 2021 Tundra and it has the key\fob combo. Having no lunch finding a case for it. Any recommendations?

 

Might have better luck if you post that in the 2.5 gen section of the forum instead of the 3ed gen. 3ed gen no have physical keys for ignition, so we won't be much help.
