I'm sure this issue has been beat to death already, but I could not find an answer to this....I had the reduced power and check engine light coming on and the truck would not go over 15 mph. It was not a normal 3.5 liter minus turbo, it sputtered and when floored went 11 mph.
I turned it off and back on and everything was fine. It's at the dealer now. If it is the turbo wastegate, will this throw a code in the history specifically for this issue? Thanks

so whats the point of starting a new thread when there is already a full thread about anything related to the turbo wastegates?

If you actually read the thread you would answer your smart ass response. It's full of wastegate issues but I could not find answer to specific question

Don’t worry about those guys. Their old gen trucks don’t got much going on besides a AC knob and windshield wipers. Their just bored so they come troll the 3rd gen threads :infantry:

Sounds like a different issue if shutting off the vehicle “reset” and fixed the problem.

Keep us updated on what is found (if anything). Thanks Joe.

Dealer just called and said no codes showing now so nothing they can do. If it repeats the problem, bring it back…

The wastegate issue is well documented and usually occurs after spirited driving. What kind of driving were you doing when it happened? There was a guy on here who's truck died but wouldn't restart and that was an ECU issue I believe. Obviously the biggest issue for you is your trust in the truck has been disrupted wondering when/if this is going to happen. Hard to believe there were no codes from something like that but the fact it reset itself after turning it off and restarting makes me think it's electronic.

Don't worry about the internet police chiming in on this about another thread as this isn't a textbook wastegate failure.

I pulled out of my development and jumped on it a little but nothing crazy, just accelerated rapidly to 50 or so. Then, check engine came on along with a message kept switching from reduced power to e brake failure…back and forth between messages.
You are 100% correct, trust has been disrupted and feel like reliability is issue now

Yeah I agree. I looked for the answer for his question and it’s not there.
So I agree with you that your answer is is not there but you could have posted this question under that thread making it easier for people with the same problem.

Though all this, my question still has not been answered. Is there actually a code for bad wastegate that would show in history?

If it is the turbo wastegate, will this throw a code in the history specifically for this issue?

I would assume that an engine malfunction light on and reduced speed would mean a code was issued. But what it is who knows. Itried Google searching and can’t find the Specific code for that issue. Only Toyota techs would know that. But once again I can’t imagine that light going on with no code. But that light might go on for various issues.

Since the waste gates on our tundras are electric then yes there should be a code thrown if there is a issue with the waste gates

I just it back from the dealer today and I think it's weird they said there was no codes in the history at all. The advisor said the codes go away after time but it was at the dealer 3 hours after the check engine light and reduced power limp mode...that was yesterday. You'd think something would be in the history

Same issue. With my 2022 1794, the check engine warning displayed and the power significantly diminished. I was putting stress on the trunk but I bought a Toyota with the expectation it can handle said "stress." I was towing a 6000 Lb travel trailer, going slightly up hill in 100 degree heat. I was using cruise control and in hindsight that may have been a mistake. Althougj, I have used it in the past with no problem. My truck has 22500 miles on it. I plan to take the trunk in but since the engine warning light is no longer there, I don't expect a solid explanation. More to come....

Sometimes these turbo engines may have a hiccup and give a check engine once in a blue moon.

If you turn it off and it resets to normal, more than likely it’s not an issue. I’ve had it happen, all is well.
