Lots to consider here. The X15 seems to fit my needs for the most part. I wish there were a way to “lock” it somehow. Seems a little too easy to open. I know it is just canvas but at least the would be thieves would need a knife or something and have to work at it for a few minutes.

Well, the unlock mechanism is on the underside at the back. You have to open the tailgate to open the cover so if you lock the tailgate it’s a bit more difficult

I have the Truck Covers USA American Roll Cover. It’s aluminum, can hold 500lb on top, and retracts into the smallest canister on the market. All my Plano trunks fit underneath it, which is a major plus for me, as I didn’t want to lose any bed space. It’s fairly lightweight. You can get it with rails to add a bed rack on top of it, and you can get one that has a small toolbox on top of the canister. The only thing I would maybe swap for is if I came across the right truck cap at a decent price.

The diamondback seems nice, but it also seems like kind of a pain if you need to haul anything tall.

    Here’s my cover, fully retracted:

I just put an access original on. Not a fan of the latch mechanism at all, however the bed stayed 100% dry in 3 rain storms with insane wind plus a hailstorm. I like that!

Soft roll ups are not secure, however they are great for keeping things covered on long trips

undercover flex is very good quality too, mine lasted 3 years before any leak

I have a Truxedo LoPro for sale for 5’7” bed. Came off my second Gen.

I swapped it out for a FasTop Traveler Package. Has a tonneau cover with a stored away soft topper when needed.

haven’t had to use the soft topper but twice so far, but it’s nice having the flexibility to have an open bed, soft topper, or tonneau cover. Whatever is needed!

Like @Terndrerrr i also have a truck covers USA. Best quality retractable roll cover on the market. Only advantage retrax has over it is they come with rails that have channels for racks. That being said, I’d still go with a truck covers USA every day over a retrax. If you don’t need it to be retractable; go with diamondback

I have the Bak X4. Love it, unfortunately it has separated 2 of the ribs. I have reached out to CS to get a replacement. If they honor it, I will never look back and only use their products. This is my 3rd truck with it, never had a problem before.

I have the Lund Elite tri fold. Much better than roll style for looks and the convertable top material really holds up. Comes totally off in seconds if removal needed.

None to day....that’s why I’m here.
I got my backflip revolver in the fall of 17. It’s been nice but seems to be degrading fast now. The vinyl is splitting, leaks more, when unlocked and trying to roll it up the edges of the aluminum slats get stuck in the lock rails, and the felt pieces keep losing adhesion to the bottom side of the top which is important because it gets hot in the south, like 2nd degree burns from touching the aluminum pieces.

All of that being said it has kept everything secure in the truck bed and is very versatile. Just wish it was more durable for the price.

Yes, I added OEM rails to my 2014 SR5 that didn't come with them..
The clamps for the rails work much better than the clamps that just attach to the inner lip of the bed without rails.

No matter what I did I couldn't get the right side to stay on with the old clamp.
It would fall off almost every time I closed it.

The bed rail clamps worked perfectly.
Now I can just slam it shut if needed..

I decided to go with the X15. Was easier than I anticipated to install, fits well, well made, worked with the bed rail system and looks good. Drove from Atlanta to Connecticut and back without any issues. I am very happy with it.

New member—I’m going try to be as specific as possible. I have a 2021 Limited with the short bed. Rails are built into the bed. I’m looking for a soft bed cover because they’re more accommodating for uneven/bumpy loads. I’m looking for waterproof (inside), easy to install, and low cost. I had a Ford tri-fold on my F150 and it was fine. I’m intrigued by the roll up types but am concerned that the ones with slats will be too rigid/like a hard top. Any recommendations and feedback is appreciated.

That’s a pretty tall order….but gator seems to be a popular brand that meets your needs. You will likely get many other opinions but I have owned the gator, many friends have them as well. They’re reasonably priced, well made and relatively water resistant

Update on the retractable aluminum cover from TCUSA on my ‘21. I posted above about 2 years ago. I’ve had it a long time; it has been with me through all four seasons in backwoods all over the country all the way up to 13k’ elevation. Works exactly the same as the day I got it. Very secure cover.

I believe that the Truxedo Truxport fits nearly every one of your requirements. It is inexpensive, waterproof, flexible and easy to install. I have owned one and other than the fact that it sat on top of the rails (did not looks as good as my current X15) it was an excellent cover. One of my favorite features is that you could open and close the tailgate without having to unlatch and rewatch the back.
