Looking for some ham radio and antenna mounting ideas for the 22 tundra. I did do a search in the 3rd Gen forum and saw someone using the ICS Fab dash mount (https://www.ics-fab.com/products/toyota-tundra-dash-mount-2022) which did look good but kind of covered the tundra display (https://www.tundras.com/threads/3rd-gen-accessory-thread.99672/page-55#post-2838146). Also, this is my first truck since getting my license and am curious where other may have mounted their antennas. My radio options are putting my Yaesu FTM-400 back in or using my FTM-300. I am also thinking of using my Icom IC-705 and an HF antenna.

You don't have to mount the radio on the ICS "wings" if you're worried about covering the display. In fact, you don't have to use them at all. They're totally optional. Just mount your unit to the top of the ICS panel instead. Easy peasy.

I'm excited to see what people are doing for antenna installs. I had a Yaesu ftm400 in my Tacoma and will be looking to install it on my tundra. No roof rack, and a tonneau cover on the back. I did a good install before but ideally I'd have the antenna behind the cab.

I have a 2021 , but used the ditch light bracket on the drivers side with a tab for the antenna. Not the perfect or ideal spot for an antenna but it works . Head unit for my FTM-100 is a ram mount attached to the dash plate from Rago.

Very clean install! I did the same antenna location in my Tacoma but with a permanent mount . I wasn't sure if it'd fit on the tundra I'll have to give the clamp a try

Couple photos of my set up. Not pictured is the radio “brain”. It’s under the cup holder area of the center console. Thinking about upgrading to the Yeasu FTM-300. I should throw some ditch lights on those ditch light brackets as well. My current addiction to fishing is really putting the hurt on my budget.

I pulled the radio/nav screen and hvac controls , ran the wires behind those . Power and antenna routed under the door sill plastic piece , under the carpet beneath the drivers seat and into the center console. Ext speaker is below drivers seat .

This at the same time as my front camera/back up camera anytime kit.

Do you have a 12v plug in your center console / behind the arm rest? Might find a source there. Running dedicated power from the battery in an option , but you may want to use a relay with ignition input so you don’t kill your battery if you leave the Ham Radio on.

I'm not familiar with the 2022 dash configuration, but don't discount good old double sided tape. If you don't like the location, moving it is just a twist and stick away.

Here's the remote head mount in my 2nd gen.

As for the antenna, I have one of these on each side. One for 2m/440, the other for APRS.

They're made from CB 10-24 mirror mounts. I redrilled them for SO-239 feedthroughs and drilled holes to match up with Unistrut nuts so they could be attached to the Unistrut rails. There are versions for NMO mounts.

Where did you fish your antenna wire through? Been trying to find one on my truck, but haven't seen a good spot.

I know it has been a while since this thread was active, but I was hoping to get a picture of the grommet and location you fed it through.

Here are a couple from under the hood. The brake booster is on the left, the fender wall is on the right. You have to move some carpet inside to find it. The easiest way to find it under the dash is with a long, thin rod or screwdriver. I cut an X in the rubber to get the wire through.

Is that an attachment that just rolls up in the back window and still seals off the window? If so that is like perfect. What is that one called for the previous gen?

It replaces your 3rd brake light, several companies make them for different model trucks.
Google "3rd brake light NMO mount"

I still need to install my FTM-400 and antenna. No idea where to put the antenna, I'm not drilling a hole in a $60k truck. Watching this thread for inspiration. The ditch like bracket was a decent idea.

You could do a magnetic base or a trunk lip mount.
The magnetic base mount can be placed on the roof and you feed the wiring thru a door, practical for only using it when needed. (This is what I have now)
The trunk lip mount could be placed on the hood like pictured below on a 4Runner.

Bringing back an old thread (!!). There isn't a whole lot on the forum regarding the installation of ham radios in these new Tundras.

There **are** through-glass antenna options (like the old car phone antennas), just bigger. Larsen makes what appears to be a decent one. Search for "Larsen Glass-Mount Antenna, 2m/70cm and Ham Guides TM Pocket Reference Card Bundle" on Amazon. While searching through Amazon, I found a single band 2m version as well (though the price was about the same).

The usual ham radio dealers also carry them on their websites, but my local HRO did not have one in stock for me to see with my own eyes.

    Hope the helps someone.
