Just took delivery of my Platinum Hybrid on Thursday this week. Absolutely loving it so far. One big question though I have been wrestling with… where do I store my always with me items? Things like jumper cables, first aid, tie downs, hitch and ball, etc.

I know many of our non-hybrid owners will flock and brag about their underseat storage… but I am curious what other hybrid owners are doing?

I know there is some space behind the rear seats, but it is not much at all.

I have concluded on a tool bag in the bed that I will attach to the tie down hooks? I have a tonneu so I can do that without too much worry. But I would really love to hear what other solutions might be out there.

You could add a drawer system in the bed.

I plan to for my next truck.

I don't like having stuff in cab with me. I put it in a container under cover in back.

Agree, you need to find I good storage box that you can remove easily if needed. I’ve been looking for one that’s not to big or to small.

    • Plano trunk
    • Zip tie
    • Carabiner

Works really well for me. All in for ~$20. When I need the bed space, I just unhook it and toss it on the floor of the backseat.

Ya those decked drawer systems are pretty nice. I don’t think I need THAT much storage though. And I want to keep as much of the bed for utility as possible.

Seems like this is the consensus for best option - I have three small kiddos and I don’t like having anything in the cab either… just something the will open and mess with. Then later when I need something I will find that it has been commandeered in one of their “collections” later haha

Ya I have generally always had one of those soft canvas style tool boxes in the trunk of my vehicles. I think I’ll do the same and sounds like will be the best option. Figure out a good attachment to the bed so it’s not rolling around or moving…

Yes I did come across these. They look very nice and like a good custom option. I will check with SantanaRealTruck as I like these, but they seem a little expensive for what they are. I also am curious how easily they come out if you want the additional space. And I guess I should have added in my OP that I don’t want a big bed toolbox as I want to keep my tonneu and don’t need that much space. Something this size would be perfect for the essentials.

Thanks for sharing - this is exactly like what I kind of settled on. Seems like the best simple cost effective solution. Given the frequency of use, I’ll probably attach mine somewhere up front near the cab…

That looks good. Did you attach it or tie it down at all? I would like to attach somehow so it’s not moving around at all in the back

Is there any sort of storage solution that can connect up with the OEM bed rails?

Cool. I think academy sports keeps a wide variety of Plano trunks in stock. This one is the 1719 model, if I recall correctly. They also have a larger 1919 model that has wheels on one end. Both of them have an unbroken channel around the lid so you can add weatherstripping if you want.

While I waited for my topper I bought an oem tonneau cover and used that in combination with a Plano sportsman tote to keep things organized. I used a few tie down straps through the cleats in the rail system to keep it in place.

As of last Friday I am completely organized, feels good

I put the bin all the way forward in the bed up by the cab in the center. I used a cam lock ratchet strap attached to the two front corner hooks in the bed to hold it there. The shape of the bin was great to keep the strap from sliding down so the bin was very secure if you pulled the cam lock tight. Only down side was needing to climb into the bed to access the bin. But it was at least out of the way to load other stuff in the rear of the bed.

It was the perfect height to fit under an Undercover 1-piece hard tonneau cover in my 2014. With the Gen 3 bed being about 1" shorter it may get close depending on how your cover sits. My 2022 isn't here yet for me to check height fitment but it should be fine with most covers.

I don't have a hybrid but 2 full time car seats in back so same issue. I'm doing what Terndrer is doing with a packer in the box except I'm using the 2x8 across the back bed, I just bought a big enough packer that it fits fairly tight back there. Need a box cover/tonneau for this of course to keep the lookers away.

I haven't seen anything like that - but not a bad idea. I was planning to use a combination of the rail hooks and bed cleats to secure whatever bin or container I decide to use.

Awesome. I'll probably check out Sportmans Warehouse or Cabellas locally as well - I think they usually carry quite a few Plano products.

That is a mighty clean set up! Quick question - on either side of those drawers there is quite a big of space between them and the bed. Do they have top openers that let you utilize that space? Or is it just the two drawers?

Thanks - that is a good solution. I have the factory tonneu cover so it sits pretty low and even in to the bed a bit. I'll have to check the measurements to make sure whatever I get will fit

Nice - ya car seats are a pain... haha. My oldest finally graduated to a booster, and even that is just so much better than full time / strap in / pain in the butt car seats...

Phew - that is super clean. I like it. But yes it is pricey. I also wonder how much heavier the tailgate might be with all that stuff added. I might monitor though and see what they come up with the 2022.

My tailgate is heavy enough with the Mountain Hatch cover on it (which I love and use all the time).

That tailgate storage looks slick, but I wonder how solid it is. Can I still roll an ATV over it and into my bed? Would I smack the corner while loading lumber or snag it pushing 50lb bags of feed and bend it or mess it up? It seems like it works with the factory tailgate lock, but I would want to make sure. My initial thought is that it looks cooler than it probably is useful. Don’t know. Would love to hear someone’s long term feedback with it.

Ya those are definitely great points. I think if I didn't have to drill for the swing out boxes, I would lean towards those. Price seems not too bad - but I don't think I am ready to drill in to the bed of my truck I just shelled out $75k for... haha

Swingcases lift right off the mounting hinge if you need to remove them.
You can find cheaper knockoffs of them on Amazon for around $140.

It stores jumper cables (but I now use a battery jumper starter), a 4X4 block if I need to jack the truck, old wiper blades, rain jacket, tools, gloves, Gorilla tape, and every spare bulb for all exterior lights and the tools to swap them.

They have a place to put a padlock to prevent theft in an uncovered bed.
Although I keep my bed covered, I have the hinge secured with a screwed-on bottle cap magnet.

This is awesome. I think you sold me on it. I'll check around for prices. Did you get the original? It looks like it from the photos, but just curious. I kind of live by buy once, cry once as I have bought many cheaper alternatives to only figure out that I actually just should have bought the nice one from the start...

    Yes, I got the original.
They were even more expensive back then.
I bought it directly from Undercover.

I had to remove my corner tie down, not sure if the 2022s have that.
I installed OEM bed lights a year later and ended up putting one in the front..
