Many lessons learned this weekend. Basically we need to treat it like it is only my family attending. Cannot rely on the rest of the fam to bring their share of food, wine or fun. Next year we will have back-ups for everyone else.

Not mad. Not even disappointed. Just a lesson learned.

Also it is great to see how other couples/marriages develop over time. Makes me look that much better!!!

 

My mother in law is the opposite. If there are 6 people for dinner, she'll make enough food for about 12 and send us all home with leftovers.

Exactly. My family isn’t cheap, but time management and follow-through are a major problem.

A few examples of what I faced this weekend:
It was said “No, you don’t need to buy beer. I’m bringing some”
In reality 3 beers were brought. I’m not drinking your beer if you bring 3.
It was said “I’m buying bagels for breakfast”
In reality no bagels were purchased. And said failure wasn’t communicated until everyone was at the house. No mention of missing bagels was made during the final “what’s needed at the store” furry of group texting.
To fix the breakfast gap, person said “It is okay, we brought a quiche”.
In reality they brought 1/2 of a quiche. Enough for maybe four people if it was the main course. Not acceptable if you have ten mouths to feed. If I have to scramble a dozen eggs, cook bacon and warm up six cinnamon rolls then your contribution is completely inadequate.

 

You really think those’ll hold up as long as Husky Weatherbeaters?

 

I just can’t imagine shoes, let alone boots, not ruining those after a year or so. I have some soft guitar cases made out of the same stuff. I’ll send you some pics of how they’re holding up. They’re doing ok (granted, I’m not putting my boots on them). The stitching goes first.

 

In honor of the thread title, a short story:

middle son, to youngest son: “look at this sweet pic of a Turantula Wasp”

youngest: “that is AWESOME”

middle: “they lay their eggs inside a tarantula, then their babies hatch and eat their way out of it. It’s like their favorite food.”

youngest: “…woooooahhhh…”

middle: “that would be like us, being born INSIDE OF SUSHI!!!”
