So I was hoping someone might know how to adjust the auto level headlights. I leveled my Platinum and it has the auto level headlights and I am now constantly getting flashed by oncoming traffic. I sure hope the height can somehow be adjusted since I dont want to drive around blinding everyone. I am attaching a pic of the back of the headlight and was hoping maybe that white plastic thingie is a adjustment screw of some kind. I can not find anywhere on here or on the internet about the ability to adjust the height of these.
    Hopefully someone can help
    Thanks Scott

Sorry i'm a bit confused... do you have the adjusting dial to the left of your steering wheel to raise/lower your headlight beam angle?

if so, what i've done in the past with my tacoma when i lifted it was if you look at the front lens of your headlight, you'll see a little dot/dimple in the center.
Measure how high that is off of the ground, and remember that value. then park on a completely flat surface, with your vehicle aimed at a wall, and have that "dimple" be exactly 25 feet away from the wall. mark the wall with some blue painter's tape at the height that you measured earlier from dimple to the ground. adjust the headlight so it is around 4-5 inches below the blue tape.

for example, if it is 46'' from the ground to the dimple, you want to adjust the top cutoff of your headlight on the flat wall to be around the 41-42'' mark.

No the auto adjust headlights do not have the adjusting dial. They supposedly adjust to the correct height themselves.:/

That white nut should adjust it. Looks like what I had to adjust on my old tundra when I leveled it. you can put socket on the nut or use Philips head screwdriver in the gear part to adjust it.

OK! We have conflicting posts two in a row! Does the auto adjusting headlight in fact auto adjust, or do you have to turn the white nut?

I've read in other places that the auto adjustment range is minor, and perhaps only designed to offset higher pointed headlights when the rear is squatted down with a payload in the bed.

ALSO, I've read that the "auto adjustment" is really just the self leveling rear suspension, which prevents rear squat from payload / lights pointed too high.

I've owned a lot of vehicles with self adjusting headlights and they all would calibrate at startup. You could see the headlights move to full range of adjustment as soon as you started the vehicle. I have not seen that on this truck at all.

I suspect (and this is completely speculative):

    1) The auto adjustment refers only to the rear air suspension self leveling feature
    2) The white nut is still used to aim the headlights on a baseline flat surface with suspension in Normal height.

I would love for a tech or an engineer to explain accurately!

I think you are correct on that they only have a small range of adjustment. I dont think they have anything to do with the rear suspension leveling because you can get the auto headlights on the limited trim without the rear suspension that self levels.

I think you're close, but I don't think it's adjusting based on the air suspension, but the rear shock travel instead. My limited has auto-leveling headlights and I do not have the air suspension.

Nothing to do with those dials, just need a long phillps screwdriver…

I had the TRD Lift Suspension Kit installed and the load leveling arm was removed and that function is now disabled. That is in Step 38 of T-A1-1379-D.pdf (Installation Instruction). I don't know why Toyota removed the linkage arm and disabled function. it is an expensive lift kit and don't know why Toyota did not engineer the proper linkage arm length for the load leveling headlights to be within specs.

I never would have thought auto level headlights would need a manual adjuster. Thanks for the pro tip on the adjustment screw locations.

Look at the first post, the white area is the place that has a serrated edge. Look from the top of the headlight downward and you will see a place you can put a number two Phillips (long) down ward and it will fit into the serrated piece. Turning the screwdriver will adjust up or down.

Do your manual adjustable headlights via interior dial have a manual adjustment screw on the housing??!!

Auto level headlights have range of travel just like any other actuator based system. The philips screw simply adjust the baseline. I’m positive base led headlights also have some sort of baseline beam cut off adjustment with the addition of the dial.

No new arm, the tech has to adjust the headlights manually IAW the instructions that come with the TRD Lift, they actually remove the arm for the auto level. See page 44.

Hello wondering how much you had to turn it to adjust. I have been trying to raise mine a bit as even having the manual adjust at zero in the cab is too low.

However feeling some resistance and not seeing much change in level on the wall. Don’t want to push past the point of failure.

I know the TRD lift instructions tell toyota to disable the auto leveling headlight feature due to it being incompatible but they also say to remove the fog lights. It looks like the linkage will still reach after removing the lockout/disable bracket.

Has anyone reinstalled the linkage to the auto level headlight sensor after getting the TRD lift or know if it will still function even if not as accurate?
