My Tundra sat for the last four days and this afternoon when I parked next to it I immediately noticed a high pitched whistle. At first I thought it might be a leaky tire but I was wrong. I popped the hood and leaned in to try and figure out where the sound was originating from. Holy blankety-blankin'-blank that noise is loud, irritating, and I can't figure out what the culprit is. I drove the truck for about 10 minutes and the noise went away but after returning home and parking the noise returned within a few minutes. A quick bit of online searching didn't yield much other than an unfinished conversation that mentioned something about the fuel pump staying on, and somebody asked the exact same question on this forum 3 years ago but unfortunately received zero responses. With the battery disconnected the noise finally went away, so at least that tells me the vehicle is not possessed. I would greatly appreciate any insight into this problem as I have never dealt with nor even heard of such a malfunction. Thanks in advance.

Piezo-electric buzzer sound? That’s an easy solution. Whistling though, I’m unsure.

Not a piezo buzzing. I actually put on ear protectors just to get under the hood and disconnect the battery. Really loud and high pitched. The sound returns the moment I reconnect the battery. Sounds like it may be coming from driver's side of engine bay, or maybe towards the back of the engine.

Well the piezo is high pitched, that’s why I asked. It’s located off the cabling next to the brake booster on the drivers side.

I woke up to mine ringing outside my window. I think it had to do with the dampness outside as I disconnected it and reconnected it the following day and found it gone (for now).

    That was 4-6 months ago.

Yep you're right--no wonder this was unplugged when I bought the truck. Live and learn. I have a piezo alarm wired to my EGT/Coolant gauge in my diesel and it sounds nothing like this, but, piezo or whatever, that little turd can really put out some decibels. I shouldn't be surprised by this. The first "mod" I performed on my old F250 was to disable the "chime module".

If you want an OEM replacement, I can run down the part number for you.

Sometimes just blowing them out or smacking them real good can get them back to normal working order again.

The one on my shitbox 96 Camry quit working. I replaced it with a 12 volt horn only fire alarm I had from something. Still works.

I had the dealer look for the OEM replacement a few years back and they absolutely could not find it after like 20 minutes.

    2000-2004 Tundra is same as 1995-2004 Camry, p/n 08192-12921

I presume the same part will fit '05-'06 but you may need to splice it in. Piezo is just two wires, you can literally put in anything custom you wanted for a piezo as long as it accepts two-wire input and doesn't get pissed about the voltage time applied and amount.....

Toyota calls this part 'piezo buzzer' funny enough.

Yup that's why I went the free route. If I try to lock it with a door open it sounds like a fire alarm going off. Oh well just wanted to auditory feedback since the range is so short. Good to have a part number though.
