No affiliation. They’re in, um…Russia. Just thought this was really cool. Would love to see someone fit this to their Tundra. Would it work? Or is part of what makes it so great that the 200 series is fulltime 4wd?

“By increasing the clearance by 130mm and reducing the gear ratio by 35%, portal gearboxes WEREWOLF can multiply improve the vehicle's cross-country ability, increase torque and while unloading the transmission.”

I haven't seen any boxed portals like that hold up to regular high speed use. I imagine it's more trailer queen territory. In which case, just solid axle the front, drop a Dana 60 in the rear and toss 40s at it.

They’re certainly not easy on them in that video.

I must have missed the high speed portions.
My point is, if it's not a reliable highway cruiser but rather a low speed crawler; there are much better ways to spend your money

74Weld messes around with portals. I bet if anyone does a tundra kit, it’ll be them

I see. I took your first comment “regular high speed use” to mean desert running, but are you just saying that portals aren’t good for cruising on the highway? But a solid axle swap, Dana rear, and 40s are? o_O

I just thought that this stupidly expensive bolt-on 5” lift and regear was cool. :notsure:

Speaking of highway cruising, where can I get a set of those tires on that 200 series?

Yep, I misunderstood you. I haven’t slept in two days.
Very cool. The @74weld portal’d trophy truck is pretty nuts.

I think the hubs are identical between the 200 and the Tundra, so I doubt there's any or minimal additional modification needed to run them. @Cruzer should do it.

And if you're gonna go to the effort to solid axle, go to the effort to portal :D it's not like portals are exclusive to ifs.

    Portal axles are cool.

HMMWV’s all came with them so they can put up with some abuse. Volvo used them recently on the XC90 so they can be refined and handle high speed. They are just another gear box - like a gear driven transfer case or axle gears - so as long as the gear tolerances are correct and you keep them lined, they should work well.

Maybe I’ll but them on ‘my other tundra’ wish list…

The Volvo boxes are too light for anything beside fire roads, they've been making them in one version or another for 40 yrs or so that I know of.
The Hummer boxes are good but not cheap anymore, if you can find them and still need a bit of work.

If you're doing portals then theres no need for a 60 or a 14b, aftermarket housing appear to be the way to go. Theres quite a few guys running 8" toy centers.

I remember the owner of 74 Weld saying that he was working on portals for the LC200, and by extension our trucks. It was on an episode of the Snail Trail 4x4 Podcast. Pretty good listen packed with all sorts of off road and engineering knowledge

I do know Bronc Buster is working on portals and is wanting to extend them to other trucks. Shoot him an email.

I have portals on my bronco... They are freaking awesome.
