With fuel being up, down, and somewhat ridiculous. I tried out 88 octane yesterday and i’m getting the same MPG.
If you have a Sheetz filling station nearby they currently have a Holiday deal for $1.99 a gallon. Big win for those of us with hefty Tanks.

    Best Wishes & Happy Thanksgiving

Is that the E15? Stations near me are selling boat gas. $3.059 for Shell 87 and $3.599 for boat gas. Don't remember the octane. Almost got a tank full yesterday to see if it was worth the extra money.

We stayed with a friend the other day and they paid for a full tank of gas of E88 as a thank-you for driving them around. I saw no difference in MPG at all. :)

I don't know personally if 88 octane works in boats or not. It is normal gas, for cars. 88, instead of 87. AT Sheetz, they separate it with a Blue handle, instead of using the same black handle for four different octanes. It is NOT marked as an E-85 or anything like that. Again, normal gas that is right now bang for the buck with no loss in MPG

Dublin! I live in Coshocton Co during the summers. Winters I'm in Ft. Morgan Alabama that's why I'm seeing boat gas at many stations.

    What’s wrong with stock?
Boat gas is 90 octane here in FL. It is ethanol free. The ethanol destroys the fuel lines and other rubber parts in the fuel system.

    James,
Does the gas station pump say what the alcohol percentage is? Mechanic advises not to go over 10% alcohol for our trucks.

No idea...it looks like a normal yellow octane badge button. I didn't look at the fine print. I had read reviews online where I didn't believe I would be harming the truck. Nothing wrong with using better quality gas, if we chose right? Even if we didn't like most Premium cars :monocle:

If we're talking ethanol, 88 unleaded is 15% ethanol, 85% regular gas.

Yes, the difference is the sheetz 88 is 15% Ethanol. I was tempted to put it in my wife’s Car but I’m not sure if it’s wise being that I think the gas cap even says not to use higher than 10% ethanol. Are all of the 3rd gens flex fuel? If so then it won’t matter for sure.

@Silver17 - EPA says that any vehicle newer than 2001 can run the 88 unleaded stuff. :)

Of course, this doesn't mean that vehicle manufacturers won't have their own recommendations. My guess is that even if it said 10% ethanol on the gas cap, it's not like using the 88 stuff would cause it to spontaneously implode. LOL

I run the 88 octane pretty much all the time in my Nissan. No difference in mpg over regular 87 E10 and it's typically 40 cents a gallon cheaper.

Best way to find out if your vehicle can run it is to check the manual or just search whatever you have and E15.

As of 2019 I think Subaru, Honda, BMW, and Mercedes are about the only ones that don't recommend it.

Even still if you switched off every other tank I can't imagine you'd have any issues over 87.

UPDATE::: Went through almost the full tank of 88 and my MPG was practically identical. On my 23’ Tundra it even states : Any grade up to E 15 (88). So, if you’d like to get bang for your buck, right now, and can at a local filling station Go For it!
No one says do it all the time but Toyo is obvi saying we are ok if they’re putting it on the fuel cap.

    Best Wishes
