We had a line at one of my former employers where we would get parts from Mexico in a tote/box. The operator would remove parts from that tote/box, and then put them in a new tote/box in a different arrangement. Now the parts were now "Made in USA."

    Basically...

FTC will supposedly nail your ass to the wall if they catch you using 'Made in USA' without it actually being made in USA, or without adding that specific language about 'sourced from international parts' or whateve. This is intended as a protection for consumers like you and I, so we don't get conned into paying US-made pricing (i.e. get gouged) for shit that's outsourced overseas. I fully support anything made domestically and I'll put my wallet where my mouth is because (for now) I can afford to do that. I don't always like it, and I might complain about it, but I support domestic production and want to see it return. The thought of getting juked into paying domestic-made pricing for something that's not actually made here rustles my jimmies, big time.

What the Bils?! FTC would like to speak with you

Does anyone have a better solution to this dilemma of getting the used oil back in the container? I hate wasting duct tape.

My oil goes into a 5 gal fuel can, but i use a shortened atf funnel, and can lean the drain pan, funnel, and fuel can against about anything and let it drip. Gotta put a stick between the funnel and tank to vent so the funnel doesnt burp.

I don't get why the tape is needed. What's wrong with your funnel? I typically just put mine in empty milk containers and then take the oil to be recycled.

I guess I could try the atf funnel method. I was just worried I’d overshoot the funnel on first pour.

The funnel is short and can easily tip out of place and spill during a pour.

Did you ever find out what hardware was needed for these? I recently picked some up from a junkyard and lost all the hardware somewhere :annoyed:

@Jack McCarthy - if you get a fumoto valve, you can put it directly into the jug

The downside is I don’t have more than 8” off the ground for my drain pan and a milk jug would be taller than that.

I guess I could mount one to the pour cap on my drain bucket.

I typically do this also, just gotta be careful you don't cut it so much it won't fit in your desired target anymore.

We use the same oil, so I can give this suggestion. I typically punch a hole where the red dot is with a roofing nail, highest spot in the jug, to allow air to pass out of the jug for a smoother, faster funnel experience and you can fill to the brim. Then I just plug it with the nail after, and carry to the LAPS for dropoff. The tube/stick method also works, but my funnel gets a little off-kilter if it has to share the mouth of the jug w/anything.

Ooh, I like that. Does it fit right in the 5 quart jug for draining used oil back into the source container? That would simplify the process and avoid any spill possibility.

Some time in the near future, a lot more products will be "Made in the USA". Not by humans of course; complete AI automation. Sooner or later you'll see more of it in the textile industry. T-shirts now can be completely automated to some degree. It hasn't hit mass appeal yet but I'm fearing it'll be "Made in USA, but owned by China".
