How about a tremor? It’s the only f150 I’d consider.

Sorry to hear about the issues with your truck. Mine was built in late August, shortly before the 2023 run started.

Instead of taking sides maybe we should get a poll from current owners on what year their Tundra was produced and how many have had seat, infotainment, exterior and interior trim issues etc. It will help some of us, and possibly a lurking manufacturer.

You just had to say it! LOL

I love my truck, and even with the issues, wouldn't trade it. Just wish Toyota would get their QC back in line with their typical standards..

    June 2022 build

Leaking coolant pipe (pinches o-ring on assembly) behind the engine oil cooler / heater. Required removing two of the timing chain covers to access / replace.

Now appears I may have a small oil leak at the rear main seal (non-hybrid)

A lot of wind noise from leaky door / window seals and I am all but certain there is a leak at the windshield as well.

infotainment system is terrible, but that's par for the course with Toyota and I knew that going in. Not my first Toyota, and hopefully not the last.

2022 1794, 22,000 miles only one real issue… trailer plug has right signal light screwed up have to take it in sometime. Otherwise great truck compared to its outgoing 2019.

Lol ppl can't see the cheap interior on gen3.

Go try pressing the physical door lock.

I've owned a shitload of Toyotas dating back to 1989. That lock switch is so sad it feels like a toy reproduction. So flimsy and loose with no real detent feeling when you push it to lock/unlock

My Nov made 22 still has horrible door seals, and my right rear window has serious gap and can move like 1/4" in the door/track.

Sorry to hear about your issues.
My window seals are also aren't great. Interior is noisy, and driver side mirror whistles at highway speeds.

Not a big deal, those are small things which will either be fixed eventually or I'll have to live with. as long as my camshaft/lifters won't fail at 120k when my ram 1500 died.

There are also many great things that are very enjoyable about this truck too.

On the bright side, the 3rd gen issues seem minuscule to other brand 1/2 tons when I see posts like this. Just saw it on one of the Facebook pages. Can you imagine being told your #431 in line for a new engine? Nice.

Funny you mention camshaft, my ‘22 Tundra (March build) has been sitting in the shop for 30 days now with a broken camshaft. It’s been a full shit show with this pickup from the purchase (terrible dealership) until this minute.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Lemon law my dude. Most states allow a 30 + day unresolved shop visit to qualify as a lemon.

Check your state laws and begin proceedings.

    I have a 2018 F150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost. 38k miles.

The cam phasers were just replaced. Can’t even tell anything was done from the way it sounds when you start it. I thought they did nothing - until I found the oil leak in my driveway. Tranny shifts like crap. “Oh - that’s normal” say the dealers. Doors freeze - and when you can open them the latches won’t close until it warms enough they thaw out. This is a fun way to start your day - then climb over the center console into the front seat.

    010085B5-013F-478D-968E-0F749C0EBCEC.jpg

I loved this truck until all the BS with it. Now I’m debating on a Tundra.

Most of the very minor problems have me leaning towards it even though I will miss the ability to get one optioned the way you want to with something from the Big 3.

Horror stories with the new Tundra make me hesitant about keeping my order, but then I see posts like this and I'm reminded at how at exactly 95k miles both my Ford 01 Bullitt Mustang AND my Challenger R/T Scat Pack (I miss both exhaust notes, btw), absolutely crapped out. Timing chain/belts, AC, struts, crank dampener, etc. So many issues. Thankfully the MOPAR warranty I had covered all the Challenger issues, but man, I almost forgot those issues are what's pushing me towards Toyota.

Maybe I should just switch from a new Tundra and get a Forerunner or something from the Japanese factory. I want reliability.

My buddy’s 2019 Expedition Max is almost exactly the same story. Makes the same noises after cam phaser warranty repair and the transmission often sounds/feels like something broke in half when shifting. “They’re all like that, nothing we can do” is what he now gets from the dealer.

This is exactly why we're all here... Better noisy Tundra than having to pay for a new engine at 90k miles

I made the move to Toyota after I replaced the engine in my Silverado at 102,000, which was the last of a very long list of issues. That 4.8 engine had a ticking sound from day one and Chevy reassured owners with a 100,000 mile warranty. Never again.

So get a 2.5 gen if that is really your main priority. Just saying.
The new engines are stressed more and no one knows what lurks ahead.
I don't see 4Runner and Tundra as being interchangeable.
I stare at a 4Runner when I walk our the front door - my sons.
Its a better vehicle for probably 75% of what I need a vehicle for and it has AWD too.
But it can't do that 25% that I need my Tundra for - Utility.
    My opinion for my needs.

What makes you say the new engines are stressed more? just because they have turbos? The peak torque is lower in the RPM range

just wondering if there is any actual technical justification for that statement I wasn't aware of instead of assumptions

Im just curious since the turbo was designed to be a turbo engine and the v8 was designed for its type of duty, why would one be stressed more than the other. Maybe it is, I just don't know if there are actual testing results or stats to document it rather than a bunch of opinions

Curious if anybody has made a technical article about the turbos, are they sequential or both identical for each bank of cylinders? I was a car freak early 2000s and the Porsche 911 had all sorts of technical papers on their turbos, I fully recall they actually created a variable vane (turbo fins could change angle) which increased/decreased boost. Curious if anything new and cool has come around, I do know the intercooler is water cooled and not air cooled, which I guess is newer tech hehe

For one and someone correct me if wrong. The 5.7 is a lower compression engine 10.1:1 than the 3.4 Liter Toyota, 11.8:1.

You take an SUV Toyota engine and drop it in a Tundra that we assume will be doing truck duty.

Over time .....who can say at this point.

When I test drove the 2022 Tundra I specifically made sure for a time that I did not kick in the turbos.
Pretending like I was buying a 3.4 liter non turbo Tundra.
It felt really heavy in comparison to the 5.7 around town. Normal driving.
Its driving dynamics due to more wheel turns needed noticeable.

This is not to fan any bad remarks just commenting as requested.

We know from videos that the new Tundra is great at towing with the turbos especially in the mountains.

But hey - its a marathon not a sprint.

Some are in for it for a longer marathon 10 years +.
Some (most???) are just staying within warranty and reselling.

    Thats JMO

no worries, just having a conversation.

so if its built for higher compression then I don't think that automatically makes it more stressed (see diesel engines, very high compression but last a long time typically since they are built for it)

but at the end of the day, I do agree we will not know until some time passes, but I don't think we can automatically say its more stressed if it was built for it.

the turbo waste gate sure put a spin on the launch though, thats for sure, it cemented some doubt at some level for most people.
