I don't Know if anybody's come across this, but, my friend's just bought a 2023 RAV4 hybrid and they were going to get it undercoated [Krown / Rust Check whatever] and the dealer told them if they did, their vehicle would not be covered under warrenty. Undercoating may not be a concern for you guys in the far south but for us guys north of the border ice, snow, water and salt can play havoc on our vehicles . Just wondering if anyone in ice, snow and salt areas have heard of this.

I bet the dealership offers "undercoating" for a new low price of....

Hell, I used to undercoat everything at the Toyota Dealership I worked for in Montana.

    Ya!
I've had my 08 Tundra Krown'd since new no problems except they did replace the weather strips a few years back because the Krown reacted with the weatherstrips. The problem they say is when they spray inside the doors or whatever the undercoating can have an effect on lock relays and different sensors thus voiding warrenty. They did say he could use the Electronic rust control devices.

This is the answer I got from Toyota Canada when I sent them an email asking about Rustproofing, not 100% clear either

I had my 2022 undercoated by my Toyota dealership. It was fairly reasonable priced($699). It turned out really nice. I figured it would be best to let them do it, since they put a 10 year warranty on the coating itself. There were mixed reviews on Fluid film, DIY, Ziebart, Toyota dealership.

No way in heck I'm putting a coating on that last 10 years. Let me guess, it's the hard or black rubberzized stuff. As for the 10y Toyota warrant on it, good luck. You'll have to get regular inspections on it and if you miss one, it's void. If the rust comes from the inside, they likely won't cover it either and that's where it will happen.

Watch some videos on it and see what it has the potential to do long term. It's not good.

I'll take my chances with DIY application of CorrosionFree (similar to Fluid Film).

The frame is and will stay soft and tacky. Inside the bottom doors and inside bottom of tail gate they used fluid film. No inspections or follow ups needed.

Do what is best for you.

Update:: Another friend of mine got a 2023 Tundra 1794 edition ,he also co-own's a repair shop / Krown dealership he got his undercoated after approaching the Toyota dealership as to why not, they told him that another customer purchased a Tundra and got the dealership to take his truck to an across National Canada auto repair and retail store to get it undercoated as he was working on a turnaround an wanted it all done and ready for when he got home. Apparently when he got home and took his truck there were lights flashing on the dash. The dealership took it in and found undercoating had blocked the holes in the oxygen sensors so no warranty. The undercoating used was a thick coating unlike the Krown . So they agreed to warrenty my friends Krown application because Krown is not a thick undercoat it's supposed to be applied yearly.

I can see the problem of the high voltage wires been hidden with a thick rubbery undercoating

I can see the thicker stuff causing issues, but krown or similar should be "ok" I would think. I usually get "Rust Check" which is also very similar to Krown, but smells good (cherry).

Directly from Rust Check website: https://rustcheck.com/latest-news/h...metal-vehicle-can-benefit-from-rust-proofing/

Debating taking the chance for my incoming '23 Hybrid Platinum

    I know, right?

Before I bought my GX, I was also shopping 1st gen Sequoias. I went and test drove one here in Salt Lake City and after the drive I looked underneath and was suprised it didnt break in half. It seriously looked like it had been floated across the pacific.

I've also seen numerous pictures on the GX group of frames with fist sized holes in them.

Hijacked this thread. I've never had issues with Krown rust on my 2015 Toyota Hybrid and its hitting 230 000 km. But the 2023 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is another issue. It's full of sensors and I've contacted my dealership...in writing...to ask if it's fine. Will let you know what they say.

Fluid film every fall, occasional rinse, keep it out of the heat (warm garage after driving through the slop all day).
