Damn! Glad you’re okay. Could this be manufacturing defect in the glass? The defrost vent blowing onto the cold glass cause it to fail?

A few... Definitely more than 2
Not exactly the same but I had this happen in a 1st gen tundra to the windshield. I had a tiny rock chip in the corner that had been there for years then randomly, one cold morning with the defroster on I started driving and the whole windshield spiderwebbed and it did sound kinda like a gunshot. It was then a fun drive in the snow and ice to school that morning not being able to see out of the windshield.

Do you mean tint made for homes installed on cars? I'm still not seeing how this is possible. Something hit his window.

    Yes and visa versa.

I would agree, something hit the window.

That’s the first thing I thought but I don’t know. I called the dealer I bought the truck from to let them know and to see if they had heard of anything like that happening in other tundra’s but they hadn’t.

Yea that’s a tough one, you’d have to prove there was no outside influence, hopefully your insurance will cover it and the glass is available

So it wasn’t real cold here and I don’t recall the defrost blowing real hard but at the same time it’s just crazy that something would hit the windshield where it looks like the impact happened at. It’s good to know I’m not the only one this has happened to at least.

I have a pretty good chip in my drivers side glass in my truck. I remember when it happened and sounded like a large rock hit. This was in a wind storm where 70-90 mph winds were present. Semi’s were tipping over all over the place.

Have had this happen, at least without the window busting. Rocks get tossed from the tire and hits the side mirror. If you’re going highway speeds it sounds like a gunshot.

We’re you turning or changing lanes at the time?

I’ve had it hit the window once, no breaks though.

If it was defrost air then you’d think us folks who endure -40c mornings would have a lot of broken windows. Never heard of it. Seems like an easy case of flying rock.

I’m not sure that whatever caused the window to shatter is a design flaw. I’m on 35x12.50 Toyo mts and they seem to pick up rocks so there’s that.

I haven’t experienced any quality issues or any other issues as far as the things people complain about with the 3rd gen. I think I was just unlucky today.

That sucks big time for whatever did that. Just a pain in the ass to get replaced. Had a homeless guy try to break in to my wife's new Highlander here recently. Tried hitting it with a window punch quite a few times and it didn't shatter due to being laminated glass. Got the Safelight quote but went with a body shop I trust because they were cheaper and ordered the glass through Toyota.

I got the windshield replaced today. Something definitely hit it. I noticed this scratch today when I was cleaning up the truck. 6B7A23C2-AF93-4F01-A41E-6AFC9ABD2E68.jpg

This happened to me years back on the highway. Guessing it was the semi that passed next to me. Wife about pissed herself when it happened. Luckily it didn't crumble instantly due to the tint holding it together
