I think I want to attempt to finally paint my engine cover. I've seen several guys do this and wanted to ask for any advice or tips in doing so. I'll probably do a couple different colors, so I'll be taping it off and all that fun stuff.

-Did you have to prep the engine cover in any way other than just cleaning it?
-What kind of paint did you use? Brush or spray paint?
-How do you even take that thing off, ha.

If you've done yours, post pics below! Thanks again!

1). Minimal prep, just cleaned mine with rubbing alcohol micro fiber towels, let it dry
2)VHT spray can, im sure there are other brands I happen to like this one.
    3) it should just lift right off.
You cant over prep your tapping, take your time,
My toyota logo didnt come off so that was the only PITA to deal with.

Trying to post a pic but cant for some reason. Ill try again later.

Nice! I'm going to have to give this a try. Have to go black and silver, maybe some hints of red in there. Humm...

Oh I'm pretty certain I am, just thinking of a color pattern to do. Going to spray my tow hooks red as well.

Did you paint your engine cover black in that portion or leave it the black it already is?

Yeah, just tapped it off. My tape sucked though and wasn't staying stuck. But overall, not bad.

I thought of taking some of those photos, but I didn't. Just get the blue painters tape and start taping away. On corners, do lots of little pieces. Cover everything you dont want painted. Do several light coats. Take the tape off, let it sit. Tape off the next and repeat.
