Somehow Toyota gave many of us wireless CarPlay and Android Auto but no wireless charger. And apparently the ones who did get a wireless charger aren't happy. So here is a quick (except long time to print) solution that doesn't require doing anything to the truck. Just print this, pop in whichever standard charger type you need, and off you go. No, not as neat an install as if you were to try to mimic the OEM setup with the coils behind the console, but this is functional and looks OK, to me anyway. Or it can be temporary if you want. Whatever...

This photo is not the exact final but close enough to see what we are talking about. I have not tested the Magsafe version so if any of you try it let me know how it works and if anything needs tweaked. Files available over on Thingiverse.

Edit: I plan to make another minor Qi version that removes the phone locating tabs and transfers those to a 1 or 2 mm thick beauty cover that can be glued on to cover the charger and present a flat clean face. When I get the time.

Great work. What’s the specific model of Anker charger are you using?

This is the one I have, but I suspect they are all probably the same dimensions. I believe they make higher watts now but really no need in a car. If you are going to be in there for awhile you'll be topped off anyway.

Was designed to be used for an iPhone 14 plus for centered height. Works on the shorter ones like my wife’s X just fine. Both phones charge well side by side. :)

I just used the charger I had and one is plenty to share on the road. I can't think of one time when we both needed to charge at the same time. Damn iPhone batteries last forever. But my next one will use the MagSafe method. It really is time for me to upgrade my old XR.

Mine is just another option, I’ve seen others posting a wish for 2 chargers.
I occasionally need 2 chargers when headed somewhere distant with the better half at end of day when there has been heavy usage for both of us all day.
For under $50 in parts it suits my needs well. :)
Friction fit, doesn’t move around at all.
And yeah, takes a long time to print.

So I printed this last night, however my IPhone needs the Anker wireless puck to be another 1/2” higher. I used Cura to print. Not sure if you can simply edit and post a new STL file or recommend a software to edit this STL. Thanks.

Sure, I can edit that easily enough for you. Tell me what kind of phone it is so I can name it for that.

Thank you. It’s an IPhone 13 Pro Max. Just to let you know, it worked great with my wife’s smaller IPhone 13 Pro. It’s just the Max’s larger size needs the puck that 1/2” higher. Thanks so much.

Also, if you want to play around with this stuff there is the free cloud based Tinkercad that works really well for simple objects like this. You just create, combine, resize, move, rotate, etc., a bunch of basic shapes as solids or "holes". Then export the .stl file to your slicer. You can also import stl files back into Tinkercad and rework them. Like this one, you could import it, fill in the existing hole with a box, then create a new hole 100mm in diameter and (I don't remember the depth) and drop it 1/2" higher. It would be a little trickier to edit the wire channel. In any case that gives you an idea. One warning... you can really go down the rabbit hole making iterations until your wife may not see you for awhile.

It'll be easier for me to edit this for you because since I built it in Tinkercad I can access all the elements and just move them. Those design details won't be available if you import it.

Thank you so much for the STL and the info on Tinkercad. I will print this new STL out and let you know how it works in about 13 hours. Thanks!

You're welcome! Yeah, this is a big hunk of plastic to print and takes time. I am getting them in about 9 or 10 hours on my Prusa with medium quality settings and maybe 15-20% infill.

I did a MagSafe charger 3M double stick and some very careful wire tucking/routing around the area and into the arm rest area. All it cost was $15 for the Otterbox MagSafe charger at Target (50% off on sale) and 30min of playing with cord routing.

It’s nice how the MagSafe holds your phone up there securely too. I’m pretty OCD but I can live with a tiny bit of cord showing.550942B7-72BD-4E7D-B3EC-9DFA6C6A3B9E.jpg

Magsafe is definitely the way to go if your phone supports it, if only for the higher charging rates. But those of us with older phones still need the old style Qi. I made a magsafe version of this but can't use it... yet.

Just wanted to let you know that my IPhone 13 Pro Max now charges perfectly with this 1/2” adjustment up. Thank you!
