Looking to do a drain and fill on my Tundra... Why the hell is this WS fluid so expensive? Anyone have a good lead on getting it for a reasonable price? I noticed some Lexus WS fluid on Ebay that was cheaper $12/qt. but when I went back to look at it, it was sold. is the Lexus WS the same as the Toyota WS in case I find some more?

I found a good online price, went to local dealer and they price matched it. It was half of what their regular price was. That dealer has since been bought by a larger, multi dealership and won’t price match anymore.

Yeah I'd rather not mix either... In the old days you would just go to the auto parts store and grab some ATF... Probably still could but transmissions seem to be more particular than they used to be. Or at least that's the perception. What's the website for sparks? 11.00 is better than I've found elsewhere.

Thanks.. That's a good price, unfortunately with $27 shipping it ends up being the same as I can buy from my local dealership. +/- 15.00/qt.

At your local dealership, pull up the sparks website, or have parts guy do it on his computer, then see if they’ll match that price. That’s how I did it, also using sparks as my lower cost reference.
    Can’t hurt to ask.

A couple of days ago I bought a scabby Nissan Frontier 4x4 from the chap who's rebuilding my Tundra's transmission, he had to be done with me by midday because he was in the middle of programming the computer inside a rebuild he was doing and it needed to be done in timed stages. If that doesn't make a transmission more particular nothing will.

    Too many, but not enough....
Valvoline max life works perfectly for my 2011 matrix, and that requires the WS fluid as well. Having said that, i wouldnt use it in my tundra, its an expensive truck and using 4 quarts every 50k miles is a negligible cost savings for me. Even at 15 bucks a quart for the WS, you are saving 30 bucks every few years going with max life, not worth it imo.

If we were talking about that cost savings for regular oil changes, I would consider the non toyota fluid.

How do we know Toyota WS is better than any other WS?

I dont at least, and I didnt say that. I am just saying that WS cant be worse that a universal fluid and the difference in cost doesnt matter enough to me to not use OEM when possible. I also stated that i do use maxlife in my matrix, which also requires the WS and it works flawlessly.

Generally speaking, I trust Toyota engineering based on their history and reputation. Engine oil spec is different because of government overreach. That said, i still use an approved spec oil of 5w-30.

We don't and moneywise it's not. Toyota doesn't manufacturer fluid.

I wouldn't bother trying to negotiate at the deal but you can go on the Toyota parts website and look at the price for every dealer in the country, I find the one closest with the best price and its typically free shipping over $75

Just walked in and asked for 6 quarts. They are always right at or a hair cheaper than I can find online anywhere.
Last time I got the 75W LV transfer case fluid they charged me $59 a can.

The other dealer in town however is out of their mind on pricing!
I needed rear pads in a pinch. Asked for the rears and they said $89.99. I asked them to check the part number again because MSRP was 69.99. Said price was $89.99. I said I’d pay $69.99 (simply because I was in a pinch, though I did not tell them that). They said nope.
Went to the other dealer at 7am the next morning and they charged me $54.99.
