Curious if anyone has attempted to remove black overlays without damaging emblems they’re attached to ? I’ve removed several Toyota emblems over the years and they’re attached with a strong adhesive thin foam double sided backing. I’m pretty sure the overlays are attached with a 3M type double sided tape. Thinking of trying the heat gun trick and attempting to slowly pull each emblem and letter.

“Re-chroming” your dechrome? ;) What made you change your mind re: wanting to remove your overlays?

I'd imagine a heat gun and some fishing line would do the trick with getting it off.

Recommend researching a bit for a paint safe adhesive remover.

You could try steam. I left the heat gun over one of the LIMITED emblems too long and it ended up smooth and flattened out.
The rest were debadged (technically not overlay only)with heat gun using low heat settings and quick passes over them.

Not happening. My factory black overlays were stuck on as good as the chrome emblems. Took off every emblem the day I bought the truck. You’re better off just buying new emblems.

Done this once before because my overlays got damaged on my 4Runner.

A heat gun and some patience is the main thing. The key is low(ish) heat on the gun because you want to heat up the overlay adhesive but not so much the adhesive of the emblem itself. It's a fine line.

Once the overlay is off...goo gone will help get any residual off.

When I put my name on this truck in December there were a few accessories on build sheet I didn’t want, one of them was the black overlays. The dealer said he could change nothing because the accessories were already selected on build sheet. Also didn’t want the swing out bed boxes, but I’m getting them. Truck supposedly arrived at dealer last night. Going to call this morning and find out if the overlays were already factory installed.

    Overlays are Port Installed Option(PIO)
The end of each option on your build sheet will read FIO or PIO.

Thank you so much Siblue..! Yes, talked with my sales guy this morning and he replied basically same.
I’m really liking this site for informative information and insight. I was on a forum with my first gen 23 years ago that was pretty good. It’s since become not so good. Was the go to for accurate Tundra information. This forum is light years ahead..

Love those Corollas/Matrix. No longer have that specific vehicle. The latest I’ve sold to get this truck was my 18 Type R aka “Giant spoiler Civic”
The only Honda I have left is a 96 Civic HB. My wife is the only owner and will go to my son one day.
I’ve had Siblue screen name on all Honda forums and just kept it for any new forums even Toyota ones.
Here’s a hatch pic from last years Honda meet.

Ha, I still use "AWDDude" from my STi days. I no longer have that car, but I sure do miss her from time to time.

Gotcha… that’s a sweet hatch !! The SI Civic VTEC motor was always the rival of the Toyota 2ZZ-GE.
When I totaled my Celica GT-S 3-SG car I knew I wanted to get a 2ZZ engined car. Loved the Celicas and Matrix but opted go a little more “sleeper” with the Corolla X-RS. Hardly ever drive this car, but it’s always fun to introduce the Gen Z crowd to the 2ZZ lift pulling away from stoplights..!!
