Hello! I ordered my first Tundra a black on black TRD Pro today. Excited as hell. Sold my 21 4Runner because it was too small for me and the family. Dealer told me 4-6 mos wait on my build. Curious what others are experiencing. Thanks.

Is your dealership allocated that vehicle? If not they will only be putting in for that every 15 days to try to get one allocated to them. That could be right away or never honestly. So I wouldn’t put all my eggs in one basket and sit around waiting for them to get you one. Might be worth looking/calling around for what you want to see if another dealership is already allocated one or maybe one inbound that wasn’t reserved.

I had a gray with black ordered (allocated and built) for maybe 1 month then the day before arrival, I got cold feet and found a black on black that just arrived at the dealership I happened to call locally. I drove over there and snagged it, couldn’t be more happy.

Also, the build times are super fast… you I think are asking about how long does it take a dealership to get “allocated” one. And sadly… the dealer can request those colors and end up getting a solar octane and not a black one. It’s whatever the regional person gives the dealer honestly.

Yeah allocating on March 1 means they are going to tell their regional rep that they want a black on black TRD pro. And every 15 days from then on they will continue to request it as allocation is every 15 days. 1st and 15th

Until they are officially allocated a truck, I would hunt for another place for a black on black that is actually already allocated one that have a VIN build sheet already and is actually set to be built.

The dealer could get allocated one in 60 days or not for another 1.5 years it’s all based on how many tundras they sell.

That’s great advice. Thanks. I guess I was under the assumption a “build” was an order sent to Texas factory and I’d get updates on its build out, and eta etc. That’s not the case?

One one think in 2023 from a plant in TX. But alas for Toyo the model is always 1970s allocation from vehicles coming off a boat. See how that works for them in EV age as the only OEM not taking orders

I was told 4 months, put my deposit down, all of a sudden it was 7 months..at 13 months I found the exact truck I ordered sitting on a lot 5 hours from my house. Bought it, drove home and cancelled the other order

suprising part is my truck was already ordered and I dibbed it so it was already in the system when I got involved. Far as I know it has yet to show up.

I put down deposit December , was allocated pretty fast build date was feb 27, now pushed to march 6th.

got exactly what I wanted with the exception of bed spray in liner I didn't want, but thats not a deal killer.

but yes, OP your don't order to build trucks like the others, you just hope you find the "allocation" that you like.

When I bought my ram, they actually build an order of what I wanted, totally different

I contacted multiple dealers 11/2021 to find MSRP "only" dealers. Put a deposit down for a non-orange TRD Pro 3/1/22 and have been told every allocation cycle that I'm still on a list. Toyota's "ordering" system is archaic.

    Good luck....

18 months I suppose, the demand in the Denver region is fierce and I refuse to pay over sticker - the price I pay! All to say, it can take some serious patience. My one suggestion would be to find one close to you that's perhaps used and go test drive it - they're quite different than any truck I've owned.

I was off today and running errands on my usual route in the ATL exburbs. Saw 4 gen 3 Tundras today. That is first time I have seen more than 1 in the same route in 4 months of ownership. Maybe coincidence or maybe numbers are finally increasing.

If your flexible with color choice and maybe some options, it doesnt take long.

I really miss the days when you just went into the dealership, picked everything you wanted, priced it out and then were able to place the order.
Took a few months but you got exactly what you wanted and it didnt take an eternity.

toyota was never like that, there was just inventory all over and dealers could trade, etc. I don't think they ever actually took true custom orders, the toyota production system doesnt work that way

Huntington Toyota, Huntington, NY Ordered a 2013 Tacoma in Dark Blue, Extended Bed, TRD Sport, Quad Cab with side steps. September 2012.
By November 2012 I got the call the vehicle was going to be in.

Paid 500 over invoice and that was cool. Manager asked if it was ok to wait for it, I said no problem call me when I can pick it up.

The called to say it was in and ready for pickup. I was in the dealership for 30 minutes. Paid and off I went. (I provided the insurance etc all beforehand)

Best vehicle transaction I every had so far. I still own the vehicle to this day. I can even provide pictures if need be.

As I said, I got the exact vehicle I wanted and have been very happy with it hence the reason why I went for a Tundra.
With the Tundra and I getting the exact color I want? No but like what I am getting. MGM 1794 and a few minor extras.
No heads up display but such is life.

I do think they built vehicles in runs. No idea when mine was going to be due but eventually it was and I got it.
Never seen too many Tacomas with the same blue in quad cab w/ extended bed.

I wanted a specific color (discontinued before allocation) and only left a deposit at one dealership. It took 18 months. Worth it, but damn that was a long wait.

This was my timeline for a dealership in Jacksonville (w/ no ADM). I am moving up from a Tacoma and was in no rush and was still deciding on what to get. So, I could wait. I put a deposit down for a Limited Hybrid June 2022. They said at that point and due to my standing on the list, it would be 6-9 months. I called the next day, and said switch my request to a Pro, and they said, add about 3 more months. After research and what I will be doing the most, I decided call them back and change back to a Limited Hybrid 4x4 Offroad. I gave them 5 color choices in order of desire.

They called me early December and said, my Pro was on the way. I informed them that I changed my request and missed the update. And will keep an eye for the Limited.

When I took my wife's 4Runner in for service the first week of February, I checked and they said, they have almost my exact truck allocated and should be available to take possession middle/end of March.
My first color choice was LR and they said, the color is NLA. This is my second choice, Blueprint.
It has the all the options I wanted, but with some extras (not deal breakers) - Heated steering wheel, Ambient lighting, PVM + BSM Tow Mirror (I have a boat to tow).

ok, ya, thats an odd-on. not really sure where all that would be installed at, maybe the foot wells, etc.

thats different than the OEM on the upper trims thats integrated into the dash , doors, etc.

post a pic when you get it so we can check it out

Just put my deposit down Jul 18th 2023,
They said it will be 12-18 months. Located in Nova Scotia Canada. There's none available so I had to order one. Any idea if this ETA is accurate for my region? Any chance it could be sooner?
I know they mentioned if others cancel their order I may get a call.
