Hello Everyone, I know there are tons of posts on TRD Pro shocks and other brands so sorry for making another thread. I'm looking to upgrade the shocks on my 17 platinum tundra for better shocks in terms of smooth on road and also high speed off roading performance as well, in other words I want both of the best worlds. I have test driven a TRD Pro and although I like the way it feels, to me it felt just a little stiff at some potholes and bumps, don't get me wrong, it corners beautifully and I did not experience any body roll on the TRD pro when turning, ive never taken a TRD Pro off roading so I don't know how off road handles it, in other words I'm trying to just pay once and do it right the first time. I have researched Kings, fox, and other brands and just want feedback from other members that have these shocks. I'm looking for a 2.5 shock that will level out my truck and perform very well on both on road and off road and not have body roll as well, something very smooth and soft when going over low speed bumps and high speed bumps.. Can you guys give me suggestions as to which one is best suited for my needs. Thanks

I have done a ton of research and Im thinking of the FOX FACTORY RACE SERIES 2.5 COIL-OVER RESERVOIR SHOCKS both front and rear which have the DSC adjusters for both low and high compression. Would these suit my needs?

I have Fox 2.5 factory. Fronts are just 2.5 coilovers non-resi and rears are 2.5 remote resi with DSC adjusters. They’re a whole lot better than the stock shocks and struts that came on my ‘19 TRD Sport. The shocks do take about a month to break in. They were more stiff than what I was expecting at first. But after that month of daily use they softened up. Even when they were new and just installed they were a big improvement over my stock setup.
My brother has a ‘21 TRD Pro. Being able to drive his truck is one of the main reasons that motivated me to upgrade out of my stock suspension. Before the Fox 2.5’s had broken in, my brother’s was softer than mine, but mine was a lot more controlled. One month later (about 800 miles), the Fox 2.5’s are more plush and to me they feel a tad bit softer than my brother’s TRD Pro, yet they’re still a lot more controlled. Something about the valving on the Fox 2.5’s allows me to steer better. There’s also a lot less body roll on mine and high-speed compression is notably better. Another huge advantage of my setup vs the TRD Pro’s is the adjustability. In the front, I can adjust the height. To me, this is a huge advantage. In the rear, I can adjust both the slow-speed as well as the high-speed compression through the DSC adjusters. This is great for me because if I have to pull a trailer or add hundreds of pounds on my bed, I can adjust the compression on the fly.

Though having said all of this, if budget is a factor and a few hundred influences in your final decision, either of the two options is great. The TRD pro setup is great.

As a late side note, I don’t have experience with Kings, but I have had Icons. Icon’s valving is digressive and Fox’s valving is progressive. Apples vs oranges.

I run king 2.5s on my 2016 1794 tundra. The ride is definitely more soft on the road. But when you start to pick up speed on the dirt you can really feel the coilovers working. You 100% feel more comfortable driving at higher speeds. They came with a 600lb spring which in my experience helped alot with the body roll. Then I also took the front sway bar off and the ride got way better. Downside with no front sway bar it definitely body rolls more when corner super fast.
I since then moved to a long travel kit on my tundra and my oem performance king 2.5s are just sitting the garage

I bought the fox TRD PRO setup complete setup on my tundra, been driving with them for almost 4 months and still debating on changing to kings since the fox setup still has body roll but less body roll than the OEM setup, are your kings for oem lift?

yeah my kings are the performance series but they are adjustable and oem bolt on. They can adjust to 0-3 inches of lift. I have them set to 2.75 right now

No I never drove the trd pro, mines the 1794 I went from the junky stock shocks straight to the kings and was like this amazing but I want more so I went long travel in less then 2 months after buying the kings. I will tell you I had almost no body roll with the kings only got body roll when I did the sway bar delete and even then it’s not bad

That's a great deal considering they are very expensive, people go crazy for the TRD Pro fox setup so my set would be gone in about 2 or 3 days max, I'm going to sell my setup and will let you know, preferably PM

They are pricey, honestly if I could redo it I’d just get bypasses for the rear right away

I’m sorry for hijacking and resurrecting this thread, OP, but I’m curious @jojo9878 if you still have your Kings available for sale?

Hey OP, if you are still interested, this is my experience.

I drove on stock suspension for about a year and half, and has been on Fox 2.5 DSC valved to spec for last year and half.

If I was to do it all over, probably just keep stock suspension and run 295/70r18 in c-load, but run Icon billet UCAs, I love these UCAs, they really improved the steering.

Fox 2.5 DSC was great on paper, I was looking for something better, I don't need LT and want to keep stock width, and so far its bit of a let down, it's great on rough roads, but the corrosion is bit annoying, I used sealsaver sleeves, dust boots, I wash the truck weekly in winter and still has issue with the adjusters and corrosion, for almost $5k you'd think they thought of corrosion.

I've had 3yr old KW suspension in better shape than this.

Right now I'm on the look out for something better.
