Hello fellow FGT owners! I've been a long time lurker, and have never had to ask a question because most of the ones I have are already answered with the search bar and due diligence. However, this one has me stumped. Here goes- I have a 2001 SR5 AC 4WD V8. When I look up the fuel pump for my specific model, I get these part numbers- Toyota 23221-32020/Denso 951-0003. According to Toyota's fitment guide, this pump works for years 2000-2003. For years 2003-2004, fuel pump model Toyota 23221-0F010/Denso 951-0017 is specified. If you go by Denso's website, the 951-0017 is backwards compatible with years 2003-2000. But, the 951-0003 is not forward compatible with years 2004-2005. I reached out to Denso and was told that "there are probably variances in the pressures" but they could not elaborate on what those pressures/flow rates actually are. I know that at some point the 2UZ-FE went from being made in Japan to North America. I've cross referenced just about every other component of the fuel system between years 2000-2003 and 2004-2005, and they are all the same part numbers.

Does anybody know what the functional differences are between the fuel pumps that are specified for these years? I know that starting in 2004 the horsepower rating was dropped down to 240 from 245. Do the variances in fuel pumps have anything to do with the TRD supercharger that was originally available for 2000-2003 model years? I know it doesn't have anything to do with VVT-i because that didn't come along until 2005.

The reason for my question is that the 951-0003 pump is currently listed as being discontinued by Denso, but the 951-0017 is still readily available. I figure somebody here must have an idea.

Whew! Sorry for the long winded first post. Thanks for bearing with me, thank you for such a wonderful community, and thank you in advance for anybody who may be able to chime in.

Thanks Aerindel. Funny you mention that- I asked Parts Geek about that particular pump last night, and they stated it's listed as a universal pump, but Denso's site has it listed as being specific to the 3.4L V6

Denso's part finder is usually spot-on. Just read the descriptions carefully. and DO NOT buy your part on scAmazon or fleaBay, you are likely to get a counterfeit.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but it seems my fuel pump is in need of replacement, and I'm having a hell of a time finding a replacement from a reliable source. I believe I can shed a little light on the OP issue if anyone is interested.

As far as the drop in horsepower around 2004, I came account a video where the guy mentioned this. At this time, the standards for measuring HP officially changed, and so the listed HP for the tundra went down slightly. The engine did not change one bit, but because of this, there are discrepancies in compatible part listings. So I believe there is no functional difference between the years mentioned.

My issue is finding anything in stock (again, at a reliable source).

Toyota lists part number 23221-32020 for $380.85. This is the safest but most expensive option.

Denso 951-0017 is now on national backorder with no ETA, so that's not an option. Denso also does not list it as being compatible for my 2002, but then they don't list ANYTHING other than a pump screen for that year, so I'm sure it would be fine once it's available again.

Finally, I found Denso part number 950-0123 at Summit for $86.99. Summit says its compatible, but Denso says it's not. In fact, Denso doesn't list that pump as being for Toyota at all.

Obviously, I'd much rather spend the $87 vs the $380. Has anyone had experience with Summit and or the 950-0123?

Not from Summit, but I've been using one for about two years now.

You're sure you can't get it? I don't suspect there are many parts houses out there that are stocking it - but there may be some. You know the part you want and need so just search hi and low for it online. I added it to my cart in Rock Auto and it didn't show back order (nor did Summit though?)

Or just order OEM from dealer and for over the extra $ if you aren't able to wait. If I was in your spot and strapped for cash with the ability to change fuel pump no prob (garage to work in...etc) I would probably gamble and go for a blue top Delphi replacement from RA as a sub if Denso wasn't available.
