    Hello!
First time poster, long time lurker, just wanted to let everyone know that Safe T Cap now makes kits for the mid and rear frame sections for First Gen Tundras, as well as body mounts! Previously they only had kit for the front frame sections. This is going to save me a bunch of money in fabrication cost on my repairs.

Yessir. I would post the before pics now, but I don't want to get torn to shreds for buying a truck with such a bad frame. The way some folks are like "that's a bit too much rust, pass on the buy" shames me because you can definitely put your fist through my frame in multiple places and I was all "Ope lemme just write you a check!"

They're diamonds in the rough for anyone with some serious welding skills.

I don't know how it affects resale value though but if you're going to drive it into the ground, I guess it's fine.

While I don't have serious welding skill, I do have serious disposable income to pay for welding skill lol.
And I plan on being buried in this truck, so worth it to me. When my 5VZ dies, I'll just replace it with another one.
I only use the truck for Home Depot runs and hunting, so it's just gotta run.

I used one of their recommended installers:

    https://www.autorust.com/safetcap-installer-network/

It was quite reasonable, all things considered. Perhaps the resale value of a repaired frame is less than not, however, resale for a rusted frame plummets quite dramatically.

Not to dox myself, but the shop I'm using is in the network, and is in my town, so that's a win for me!

Finding a V6 manual 4wd is a next to impossible! Fix the rust and you've almost got a collectors vehicle.

Have you had this truck by a dealer to determine if it is eligible for the frame recall? It fits the year range for still being qualified.

Two dealers and the website. Apparently it was checked in '12, found to have "no rust" (bullshit) and the VIN closed out. I saw that someone in here just had their frame replaced at a dealer about 2 hours from me, they're my last shot before I just pay for the fab work.

If it was sprayed with the CRC product then yeah that would check out. It's stupid but by not ignoring the recall and getting the frame sprayed with their "protectant" that closes out the recall. Best of luck to you.

    Hi Guys!

I’ve also been waiting for these Safety-Cap parts to finally drop for months now. I’ve got a hole the size of a baseball by the driver’s side leaf spring and have had my truck garaged until I could get it fixed. :( It’s only got 137k on it. Just barely broke in…

Anyway, I’m in the Dallas/Ft Worth area and need an installer to do the frame repairs. I’ve had pretty bad luck with mechanics recently.

You guys know any good shops in the DFW area you can recommend that could/would do the repairs?

    Best Regards,
    Gene

look on Safe-T cap website for installers I am sure there will be some in that area...you may have to drive a bit.

Also go on google and look for frame repair sites and read reviews..I found a reputable frame shop like that, they install Safe-T cap products but arent listed on their website.

    Thanks for the reply. :D

Safety cap doesn’t have any local installers listed on their website. I called them yesterday and they confirmed they don’t have any even remotely close to the DFW area. Apparently there’s not much rust here? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway my Google-fu has been weak sauce of late and I haven’t found any shops willing or able to take on the job.

Hopefully there’s some friendly local Texas Tundra owners that can point me in the right direction!

    Best Regards,
    Gene

How much difference is there between the AC and DC frames in the mid frame section I wonder?

Just got the truck back from the shop, got the front end repairs done with the Safe-T Cap kit. Saving up some more money before doing the rear end.

AAAANNNNDDDD....the saga is complete. Full frame repair (thanks Safe-T Cap!), 4600s front and rear, leaf springs and mounts, rear axle rebuild, running boards, tow hitch, rear brakes, and the carrier bearing while we were in there. She's only got 192K miles, so I expect her to last as long as there's gas to buy.
