I don’t have a buck, or at least that I’ve noticed. I have noticed that it jumps off the line sometimes, even with a light pedal. I also get a dead pedal from a rolling stop and sometimes when I take off from a red light. It did it this weekend from a stop, I blipped the throttle and it gave zero response. I haven’t taken it back to dealer yet, but when I do they’ll have a long list to notate, fix, diagnose and whatever else comes up.

My truck ONLY stalls when I pull into my driveway. There is a very slight incline of about 9-10 ft and a very small bump for the sidewalk. It has done this 5 times now. The first three times have been a complete engine die. The other two were stalls, warning indicators pop up, RPM's drop and than they return to idle. It's not the "Start/stop" engine tech. This happens with gas in the tank. The gas light has never been on since I owned it and there is no correlation with gas level and the stalling. I am reaching out to someone at Toyota to see what the next step is.

This reminds me of is a torque converter lock-up that doesn't release fast enough causing a low idle and stall or a throttle plate not allowing enough idle air in at low RPMs. Both I would think could be solved with a PCM update.

I don't know if this applies at all to Toyotas, but a lot of cars used to have inertia switches that would trip and shut off the fuel pump if there was sudden deceleration (i.e. a collision). I had a Ford that would cut the fuel off any time I would slam on the brakes and required a manual reset. A lot of cars still have these but use speed sensors instead of an inertia switch and they don't require manual resets.

Very strange issue, just thought I'd throw some ideas out there.

I'm new here and found this page because I've been experiencing the same issue with my 2022 Tundra (less than 200 miles). I went to accelerate on a flat road and my truck died. There was a beeping noise and it had the "shift to park" alert. This has happened twice. Prior to this I went to accelerate to cross a street and my truck just lost all acceleration like it was going to die and then boom it engaged and I was able to continue driving. My gut sunk as I had cars coming down the road and I thought "be prepared to get hit". Now I'm extra cautious to enter traffic because I'm not sure what Tundra feels like doing today. I called my dealer and they haven't heard of this, but my service guy, I've known for quite awhile, thinks he recalls something with the auto stop on another vehicle. I'm taking the truck in next week and hopefully Toyota has enough documented cases to get some resolution for everyone. It's not safe at all.

geez man, sorry to hear this. This should be a safety recall at this point, man if you are cross traffic someone is going to get T-boned.

FWIW; I had this happening also. There might be an update for your truck, the front active grille was stuck on my truck. I did a scan using a bluetooth ODB port scanner and an app. I called the dealership and they mentioned there was a TSB(not a recall) that was available for my truck. I've been driving the truck for a week without it stalling. The update didn't take long but I would suggest calling before just showing up to save yourself time. It might be the cause of the issue but I cannot confirm that.

This issue has happened to me two times so far. First time, the dealer acted like they'd never heard of the issue. They claimed I was the first person they'd heard of with it, and that Toyota engineers all said the same thing. They kept it for 4 days, gave it back to me with no info.

The second time, I actually took video of it (first time it scared me so bad I just threw it into park and rebooted it). Showed it to them. They kept it for a week, and when they gave it back they said that Toyota was admitting it was a widespread (their word, not mine) issue and they were quite aware of it. They had no idea what was going on with the stalling and "Engine stopped" message, but that they "thought it would just be a software patch at some point."

It's exceedingly annoying, and now today, I get this. Have any of you seen this error? I was just driving, and suddenly the BRAKE light lit up on the dash, cruise quit, blah blah blah.

I mean, it's not out of the realm of possibility, as many computers and sensors are on this stupid thing. If it can't handle dirt and dust, it doesn't belong on a truck

This is absurd that they are still telling people they’ve never heard of the issue.

I've definitely noticed this activity as well. I do have a steeper driveway and it stalled twice on me since owning (3 months). I would also say the engine is a bit jerky for stop and go traffic for the first minute or so of driving when the engine is cold. It doesn't bother me a ton, and I figured I'd wait for my first service and hopefully they'll have a update by then.

4000 miles here almost. it has shut off on me twice going up my driveway thought maybe i just hit the button or something the first time... anyone had this fixed? saw where someone received an update which delayed it.

IMO it has to do with the converter not releasing as well. it sometimes feels like its going to shut off coming to a stop for a red light... i completely agree that it is unacceptable, would hate to pull out into a busy road and the truck just stalls lol

Looks like we finally have a solution gentleman. Glad Toyota finally addressed it. Although stall hasnt happened since, it's good to know they have a fix. Taking mine in tomorrow.

Yes I saw this tonight in my toyota app. Along with three other recalls. Have an appointment to get it dropped off tomorrow morning and get them all resolved

This is good news. It only happened to me once while in a parking lot looking for an open parking spot. However, when it happened...it was strange. Glad to see this is being addressed.

Now, if only Toyota could tell me with 100% confidence what that strange "knock" that randomly occurs at start up...that would answer the last open question for me regarding "issues."

We've got an open thread on the knock issue where we've been discussing it for quite awhile. Members have been given a wide array of answers by their dealerships as to the origin of the noise. With 15k miles on my truck, my own dealer has told me different things when I keep mentioning it at my service intervals. For my 15k service appointment, they told me it was the secondary air injection pump.

I don't think Toyota HQ will take notice of that issue until 1 of 2 things happen:
    1. Either the noise is indicative of an impending component failure and trucks start having failures because of it
    2. Enough Tundra owners complain about the noise that enough dealers complain to Toyota about the amount of customer complaints they're receiving that Toyota eventually takes notice & addresses it.

Same issue happened to me yesterday here in Scottsdale. Pull up to light, no incline, engine stalled, "Shift to Park" then the "Low Power Steering" light came on. Stopped the truck turned it off and then back on. Then drove immediately to Right Toyota in Scottsdale. They said they had never seen it, never heard of it, and checked with thier local engineers.

Given the spread of this issue and it being almost a year later, kind of pisses me off. Did the software update fix the issue as my truck was in the shop for service just 2 months ago and it is saying the software is up to date.

2022 tundra suddenly shut off today on the interstate. 75 miles and hour. Told me that I needed to pull over safely and that the steering power was low. Freaked me out. I put it in park and it restarted fine.

I have also had the issue of a dead pedal from a stop as mentioned in this thread. I get the feeling that it is a safety issue overacting.

I have an early model. I am going to make sure that it gets recorded on my service record so that any future fixes are covered.

I see this is an older thread. I don’t have any stalling issues with my 22 Tundra - but just received a recall saying they are going to change my entire motor due to debris left behind during the build that can lead to stalling. Crazy right?

Welcome from Las Vegas ... I was wondering when the folks that had no clue about the motor would start showing up.

Ha…. We’ve literally have no issues that we’ve personally experienced, in fact, we are waiting on the brake line recall fix and this one just showed up in the mail. I started researching it and was surprised to see so many people having problems.
