Having little luck on figuring out how to do this after being on multiple sites...if anyone has experience and can offer guidance let me know.

Been there and done that...the dealer said they can update firmware for me if I bring the truck in...they have no experience updating maps. The instructions on Kenwood site talk about formatting the SD card..then plugging it into the unit...the nav system then puts a code on the card that allows map update from garmin...then take the card to your computer and update maps...then return to the sd slot on the unit... I have tried this and can't even find on the nav unit where to hit update. It's crazy....

Being that it's an aftermarket head unit, I wouldn't let the dealer touch it. They only want you to bring it in so that they make money on labor charges, and then tell you that they don't know how to do it.

It's the Kenwood dealer where I bought it...sounds like they have tons of firmware experience but not garmin map updates.

The firmware is easy. Format a USB drive using FAT or NTFS. Download the file, unzip it, then copy the folder to a completely empty USB drive. Input the USB drive while the power is off, power it up, it does the rest.
The maps are a bit hazy for me, because I used Android Auto, but I remember doing it thru the Garmin Express app.

I'd double check how you copied them then. It needs to be the unzipped folder, then all the firmware folders and files inside that folded, copied to the USB drive

Basic add-ons. And a KENWOOD dmx1037s (which I’m not liking).
    Aug/24.
The latest firmware blocks ability to do many things. Kenwood’s creating bricks. The dmx1037s, after firmware, no longer supports integrated dashcam (although they say it’s still for sale on website “no sir, it’s discontinued”), blocks load screen self update, SiriusXM installed app no longer supports SiriusXM info weather orc traffic package, impossible to remove photos after you’ve uploaded.

in short, be careful updating firmware. Wait it out and research public threads for issues.
