    Hi all.

I signed up after doing some research, but much of the market is stupid. I just want to make sure I'm not crazy for considering this truck.

2008 TRD OR with 135k miles.
    Frame looks decent.

Asking price is 15000, and he straight up told me he's firm.

    Thoughts?

    Massachusetts.

The rear bumper was dented from the owner's kids bumping their fence. Otherwise, it seems alright.

How bad is it if there's cam tower leak? That's what I'm going to need to look for in person. Anything else for this generation Tundra?

Here's the frame. Not perfect, but far from the worst I've seen up here.

Aftermarket halo headlights with HID, various LED bulb replacements. 17" Fuel Blitz wheels with some 33" Nitto terra grapplers. Hoodscoop, nfab nerfbars, Bushwacker flares. No-name aftermarket grille, led fender extensions. Black Horse bambi-basher. Various offroad lights.
Doesn't seem to out of line, especially with the crazy prices trucks are pulling now.

Same truck as mine, love the truck! I paid 19,000 late last year with 115,000 on it, SR5 4X4 TRD off road. I would not sell mine for less than $22,000, I have 127743 on the truck now. All I have done has been 2 oil changes, tires and F&R brakes.

Any issues that I need to worry about at this age? I read about the cam tower leak potential, and also something about an air emissions valve.

I don't intend to put more than a few thousand miles a year on it, as my DD is an EV. This is my home improvement, moving big things, and beach truck.

BTW, from the photos, does the frame look good to you guys?

Secondary air induction pump can be repaired, replaced or removed altogether.

Cam tower leak is not a big problem to live with, especially if you don't drive much.

Frame and visible parts of cabin/bed look like they were let rusted and then sprayed with some rust inhibiting wax. Structural integrity is not compromised yet. For a few thousands of miles a year it does not matter.

Prices now are way different than they were last year.... They've come down quite a bit. $15k seems a bit high to me, but :notsure:

Without seeing the vehicle in its entirety and driving it, our opinions are kinda pointless.

Regarding the cam tower leak; it depends on how much oil is being lost. If it's just a seep, you could get another 135k miles out of it w/o needing to touch it. If it's sucking quarts of oil and needs to be addressed, the repair will probably set you back $4k or so.

Ask about maintenance and service records/proof of care. When looking over the service records, check for mechanical notes pointing out other issues.

Due to age you should plan on having to do 'little' stuff to it fairly regularly due to age. However, if the powertrain and major components have been taken care of, then you should get another 135k out of the truck (which isn't a bad trade off for $15k, just depends on how you look at it).

    Good luck w/you decision

The 5.7 V8 uses a timing belt or timing chain?

This whole venture started with me looking for a Gen2.5 Taco (impossible to find in my budget), and here I am looking at a Gen2 Tundra instead.

    Requirements:
    1. Reliable. I want it to last 5-10 years
    2. Clean interior
    3. Good frame that won't disintegrate on me
    4. Easy on the eyes

Thanks a lot for the help. I'm gonna go look at the truck tomorrow. I have 65% confidence it'll pan out that I like it enough to justify 15k.

Ask what they used to spray the frame. If it's not the good stuff that is loaded with inhibitors and evicts the moisture, the frame is basically gone. Massachusetts is pretty aggressive on those Tundra frames.

    Given the choice:

    * 2008 TRD OR 135k miles for $15k
    * 2014 TRD OR 180k miles for $18k

Both with relatively the same condition interior, body, and frame, which would you go for?

2014. 6 years fresher. Interior is much more practical. Miles difference does not matter much.

2014-21 are so called gen 2.5.

11,6k one owner all maintenance done at Toyota until 110k miles, but
front door end was pretty ugly.
the frame was sprayed by Toyota
but i had a bad feeling about a rust under the original bed liner,
make sure you take a look at it,
already fixed and got Raptor liner sprayed on the bed.,
other than that im pretty happy with it

    It'd be a tough choice.

2014 was the start of the next gen, which means it wasn't without its flaws that were addressed in later years. I'd do some research what those flaws were and if this truck has them or not, and more importantly, if they mean something to you.

2008 with 135k miles is not much IF the truck was well taken care of, and it's not going to eventually disintegrate from the rust monster.

stay away from rust if you can - makes repairs a pain in the ass man.

If i'm lookin at the right pictures that is a lot of rust. The one holding the E-brake cable for example would break off if you try to replace it.

Yeah, I actually ended up buying a much better condition 2014 DC for the same price, though with 175k miles.
