My son is insured for all our vehicles. His rate was just based off the Cheep. We have Home, Auto and Umbrella with Amica.

 

Just auto for the 3 of you!?

 

For how many vehicles? Home, trailer and 3 vehicles for us is north of $3k for us, though I can't remember exactly how much.

 

Colorado was a great state...back before 1990. I am in Connecticut now. You still have it better.

Just looked and our 6mo auto insurance bill for full coverage for 2 trucks and the Subi plus liability on the Cheep is $1150. We also have all the discounts.

 

Shop around.... I've had Allstate since I was 18 on vehicles and mid 20s on homes. They were never cheap, but generally cheaper than than state farm and farmers w/good coverage and service. Last couple of years our service took a crap, and this past renewal period (April 23) my rates went from about $1500 for the 3 vehicles to over $2200 (same coverage and no qualifying incidents)... I've had no at fault accidents since my teens and 2 incidents that were paid by at fault driver's insurance over the rest of the time.

I took a close look at the policy to confirm something didn't glitch w/mileage deductibles or coverages since we had an agent change last year... Nope!!!!! The $2200 was AFTER over $900 in 'Discounts' including safety equipment, safe driving, multi-vehicle, multi-policy, paid in full, etc... Called agent who just said it's going up due to the state of the economy right now.

Quick search and saw Allstate's Auto ratings fell way down the last 2 years, although they were still top 5 for homeowners. Sat down w/state farm agent, and same coverages, deductibles etc was $1520... So, we went with them; fuck you Allstate nice way to treat people that have been w/you over 30 years

Anyhow, moral of the story look around, and I'm sure you'll find great coverage from a good company w/o that ridiculous pricing

PS>>> If you haven't noticed Allstate has taken a large bite out of the odds and ends markets now, and I wonder if the quick bang for the buck volume over quality isn't what they are now after. I've seen 'insurance coverage' for online purchases, etc. coming off w/offers for coverage 'backed by Allstate' and who knows maybe this is fucking up the company's goals and values and pointing them in a different direction. Either way that's too much!!!!

 

Probably law for the state; each one is different... but that's still out freakin nuts!!!!

 

I did the same thing with my 30+ year loyalty to State Farm a few years ago. I've had AllState for a couple of years, but with the hail damage to the house, I've just learned from my contractor that they are the worst large insurer for contractors to deal with.

I think they all bend you over if you're loyal. All are trying to entice new clients, and none seem to want to keep them. Not sure where that comes from.

 

If I remember right the best rating (combo of coverages, reliability, pricing, etc..) were (no particular order) for this year

State Farm
Travelers
USAA
Nationwide

I hope you find something that's more equitable; I'm tired of hearing every freakin' excuse on the planet on why service, pricing, etc. sucks for everything we buy or need these days.... At least they could spit on the tip before they slam it into you

 

If you or your wife are members of any kind of professional organization, alumni of a local college or anything like that, you can see if they have a group rate with any insurance company. My costs are about a third of what they would be if not for my association's group rate.

 

We have Allstate now but I need to shop around and make a change. Service is crap and they were an ass to deal with when my son got into an accident last year. He wasn’t at fault but the guy I had to deal with was an asshole.
