What's everyone running in their beds with a shell?

I've got a factory liner, and the only thing I really like is the ease of clean-out.
It's murder on the knees, and it just seems janky for what little use it gets.
In the past, my trucks have been raw-dog with one of those heavy duty rubber mats.

Considering ditching the liner, and throwing a mat inside, or going with a spray-on liner & a mat.

    What say You ?

I have just a raw bed with a rubber matt and I like it. Pulls out easy enough to clean.

It would be the way if Bedrug made a product for 1st gens. A rubber mat is a good alternative.

Shell with a rubber..bed mat. Raw dogged for few years but the sliding of items got annoying. Easy on my best friends paws. Not opposed to spray in but i would still keep my rubber

They did make Bedrugs for the 1st gens, but they might not be in production anymore. They pop up on Offerup once or twice a year.

+1 on a shell with a Bedrug though. I don't think they sell them brand new anymore, but I've had a bed rug in my truck since 2010. This was purchased brand new with the shell. Paint is a little scratched underneath in a few spots, but otherwise the bed is in great condition.

It can suck if you spill gas on them though.

I'd take some measurements and see if a Bedrug 'mat' would fit.
Then get the tailgate mat as well.
Surely you could modify them to fit..

I like my Line X spray in. No risk of scratching my bed. I keep a small piece of carpet in there and put it on the tailgate when I'm loading and unloading to save my knees.

Nothing screams I should’ve bought an suv like a paw cap and a bed rug. Delete the cap, line x the bed and use the truck. Trucks with caps are beyond worthless.

Spray in bed liner, the only option I will spend money on.

    In my past:
Raw dog: looks like hell when used and creates area for rusting.
Rubber matt: conceals water and eventually rusts. Plus I hated taking it in and out to get a good clean.
Spray on: never had an issue or complaint. and yes, you can touch them up if they get damaged, which I have never needed to do in the bed before.

No experience with toppers and rugs, but I love the aesthetic of them.

A lot depends on where you live. If it rains a lot, go with something that won't cause rust and rot. A drop in liner will never dry underneath, and a rubber mat will trap dirt and crud that will retain moisture. As long as you keep it clean, you'll be OK. I ran a piece of carpet for years here in Texas with no problems since it wicked up moisture and dried out fairly quickly. Others that had drop in liners and rubber mats had rust problems. I have a spray in liner, no idea whose, it was there when I bought the truck. There are a couple of spots that need a touch-up, but that's for another day. I use a broom to clear out the tree bits that gather under the toolbox and hose it out at the car wash. If I had to decide, I'd go with the spray in liner, but I'd make sure it was done by a pro, and that it was the best quality I could afford.
